Looking great!! Yes it is amazingly small. Without the hood it fits in the hand. Add en extender and you would have 250mm, or more, in your pocket [emoji10]

Would do you believe that I started to buy the lenses before the K1? [emoji9] When I decided to start photographing again, Pentax and the K1 was the obvious choice. But no K1's were available to buy, so I started the other way around with the lenses. So I have not tried it yet, but its built like a Zeiss lens. Well, I think that you will have the possibility to try it out before me. Looking forward to some pictures when you have taken your first test shots, if possible [emoji4]
Now K1's are available in the stores so I will soon be able to enjoy my new lenses.

It shows signs of use on the barrel but glass is like new and everything is working perfect and smooth [emoji4]
Around 2010-2011 I had the 21/2.8 ZK, 35/2 ZK and the 100/2 ZK MP. All bought new direct from Zeiss. Then my interest for photography faded and I sold them cheap.
Of course BIG regrets now when my interest for photography is coming back [emoji21] Both the 100 and the 21 are now very hard to find and expesive if you do, as you know.
Now I am trying to come back in the "Zeiss-game" since I love what Zeiss add to a picture. Was really lucky and found the 100 Makro Planar on a small local buy & sell site.
I have also bought the 28, 35, 50 Planar, 85 and now the 100. Also having a Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 180 on the top. LBA have returned with a vengeance....

I photograph with Pentax LX and Zeiss ZK. Was out taking pictures
with my Distagon 35 yesterday. So Zeiss on LX works fine!

Love the Zeiss 35/2! Also have the Zeiss 100/2 Makro Planar and the Zeiss 21/2.8 Distagon. After I got them I sold all my AF-lenses...
No more back focus, front focus, problems with SDM and so on.. just beautiful beautiful pictures ;-)
These pictures are taken with my old trusty K10D and the Zeiss 35/2. NO PP done.. I only photograph with the camera set for jpg, and
just make sure I expose correctly.

Well, I normally do not engage in pro- con- discussions about gear, but since I have become a Zeissaholic recently I thought I should relay my thoughts on Zeiss:
- It is very expensive!
- It may very well, in a strictly analytical sense, not be worth it
- If you can afford it and you buy it, you feel it was worth it..
- It renders in a way I have never seen before.. vivid colours (Zeiss colours!), high contrast, 3D
- After a while you can point out a picture taken with a Zeiss in a blind test... it has a unique rendering
- This is what you buy, the rendering primarily.. The amazing.."it will last forever" quality is a bonus
- You suddenly degrade your camera house to a digital back to a Zeiss lens (I still used a K10D)
- It is the lens that gives you all the goodness, and the sensor suddenly becomes secondary..
- It is FF and works beatifully on aps-c!
- I do not have to care about back-focus/front-focus/SDM/Screwdrive... I focus manually
- I can use the same lenses on my Pentax LX!!! Yipiii.. Love film!
I do not care about MTF-curves and so on... These lenses have soul... and I will never sell them!
I respect that people think they are overpriced underachieving hyped glass, but I just love'em..
For some Zeiss-goodness look here: ZE/ZF/ZM Images (Official Thread!) - FM Forums
.. and no.. I get similar results without any PP... Just jpeg straight out of the cam..
Cheers

Refreshing post Richard! After an initial equipment focused journey, I have now settled in a "content mode" with my K10D with roughly 30.000 clicks. Enjoying every new click I make!
You are most probably one of the happiest 10% of the Pentax people on this forum. A lot of people would love to be "an old bore", I am sure!
So everyone, let's go out and take picures!

It's sad that the Zeiss thread dried up...
Have the Distagon 21/2.8 ZK, the Distagon 35/2 ZK and the Makro Planar 100/2 ZK and love every bit of them... Colors, bokeh, sharpness and carachter...So much I have sold most of my AF-lenses.
Would love to see that there are more Zeiss lovers in the Pentax world!
(All pictures are *untouched* jpg's straight out of my K10D... No PP at all)

I have to defend the FA*24... the copy I had was *sharp*, had beatiful colours and a decent boké... I might have had the *perfect* FA*24... but in my book it was GREAT!
The build quality was also fabulous..
At f2.0 it might have had poor borders, i do not know, never looked. Center sharpness was just great! ...what lens have perfect corners wide open? Taken down to 4 or 5.6 it was very very very sharp, across the frame.
On the other hand, a lot of people have given the DA*50-135 high marks... I tried to love it but.. it had a great sharpness, but I could not stand the boké sometimes on medium distances...
That said, I might have a different taste then other people, but in my book..do not underestimate the FA*24....!
Kind regards

For manual "slow photography" with maximum quality (manual focus!):
Zeiss Distagon T* 21/2.8 ZK
Zeiss Distagon T* 35/2.0 ZK
Zeiss Makro Planar T* 100/2.0 ZK
all interchangeable with my analog Pentax LX of course, AND no problems with SDM,
back focus, front focus, slow focus, bad AF system a.s.o...Just the lens and my eyes make the pictures sharp!
When I need AF, in bad light, or when I cannot practice slow photography:
DA*16-50/2.8
FA*85/1.4
DA*300/4.0
Have had soooooo many different lenses and now I think I finally have got it right..

Well on my K10D I had severe problems focusing the FA31. Felt like the lens did not give enough contrast to focus properly. I had the same problem on 2 copies of the FA31. You, on the other hand, have the K20D and I have heard that AF is better on the K20D even if the tech sheet says it's the same AF system.
I might have had a case of real bad luck though..

My FA*24/2 is sharp at 2.0 (in my eyes at least) and has a great boké and caracter..
Stopped down it is *really* sharp!
Love it, perfect focal length cropped!

Well, I think it boils down to this:
Both the FA77 and the FA*85 are *very* competent lenses. If you want a more compact and unobtrusive lens, then choose the FA77. If you see the FA*85 in the flesh with the hood attached, if you have not already done so, you will see that is a *massive* lens. It looks a little bit like a giant hood, with a lens in the middle and a small camera in the back. It is b-i-g!
When writing this, I just start to wonder why I did not go for the FA77... It has so many advantages... but then I is clear to me: I wanted to have the legend!
It is a little bit like the lord of the rings... You cares the silver beast and whisper:
Ohh my precsiousssss... I am here with you.. ;-)

Well, my FA*85 have *no* problem in delivering outstanding quality on distant objects! In fact I use it constantly wide open, at f1.4, on objects close, or at infinity. At 4-5.6 the sharpness, and the way it resolves at infinity is just fantastic.
Maybe I got the perfect copy, but I just do not undestand what people are talking about when it comes to sharpness at distant objects...

I had a bag full of lenses which just made me frustrated when I was about to go out and take pictures. Could never really decide what to use, and after selling off a lot of lenses I try to go simplistic.
When walking in the forrest, enjoying nature photography, the set-up is:
DA*16-50, DA*50-135 and DA*300
Flexible, weather sealed, silent a.s.o.
For day to day photography in the city (prime set-up):
FA*24, FA50/1,4, FA*85
I am still thinkin of selling the DA*50-135 and the FA50 just to narrow down the
lens collection to a few lenses that I can "learn" and use fully. So maybe the set-up will be DA*16-50 as the flexible solution, the FA*24 & FA*85 as the standard prime setup, and the DA*300 as the lens I just cannot part with. It is just that good!
Who knows.. the lens strategy seems to change for every season..
