Hi, I'm enjoying my K1 which arrived today but I have come across one problem. Adobe is trying to push everyone toward the cloud. So no further updates will be issued for Photoshop CS6. This hasn't been a problem as it supported all the Pentax PEF formats up to the K3. However, it won't read the ones from the K1. Also been using LR5. Again no support for the K1 and I would need to buy or rent LR6.
However, both will read the files if saved in DNG format in the K1. Has anybody noticed any real difference in saving Pentax files in DNG rather than PEF?

The shutter release on the Super A is electronic rather than mechanical so there won't be anything in the bottom ;)
It is purely when the first and second switchs make contact. I'm not sure if this is adjustable. The service manual and parts list is on my website here if it helps. Pentax Manuals

I think another problem is that there is no "defined" standard for such observations. Different testers might "rate" the same lens with a different score from another. The reviews here were done by different people.
As bdery notes the sensor can influence things in a far more critical way than used to be the case with film. I find that such reports can be useful as an initial guide but I find these days that the character of a lens, it's colour rendition, bokeh and other trait matter more to me than an absolute measure of how sharp it is. ;)

If you think the DSLR are difficult, try an Asahiflex LOL
Many of the eary M42 didn't have the aids either and are also quite dark such as the AP, K and S.
It may just be me and because I'm used to it but I don'y really notice that much difference between using the LX and the K10/K5. Then again I often have a plain matt scren in the LX as I find microprisms and split screens distracting. With the KX etc I tend to focus out the side.
I really do think it is a matter of practice and getting used to it. Having said that, I am using MF primes mainly on the DSLR's though I tend to MF the Ltds as well. That way, I chose the point of focus.

That is a matter of opinion. I know a huge crowd of "street photograhers" and their preference is for rangefinders. Not an AF in sight not even on the latest eica or Bessa ;)

I would certainly agree with you with the penta mirror designs such as the DL, DS2 etc. However, I have had the D, K10 and now the K5. As yet none of those have had special screens but I tend to use MF nearly all the time with the primes and often with the zooms.
However, I do tend to use fast lenses. The DA* are 2.8 and the primes at least that speed or faster in the shorter ranges. Once you get to the likes of the 300/4 A*, it "snaps" in and out because of the DOF.
So I think some of the problem is not just the finder itself but slow ie F4- F5.6 lenses.

Yeah 18 DA-L so I may as well use one of the better zooms ;) It's a shame, just a couple of weeks ago I hesited and missed out on a Zeiss 18mm. I think I'm going to regret that!
I think that is one of the problems with your list and almost the way Pentax is going. I can understand and support the need for "cheap" entry level zooms and even the 35/2.4 in the same way they used to have the 50/2 on the cheaper film bodies.
For the rest of the range, they had a set of primes which gradually went through K, M, A and then a reduced range in F and FA. Within the "popular" sizes there was generally a cheaper but slower alternative and a fast generally very good version. Adding a * to the premium lenses in A and F/FA's was fine but now the DA, DA*, DA-L, WR, Ltds etc makes things too complex. Why not just make all the lenses WR?
As to a FF body, I never asked for one ;) I use FF lenses on the film bodies. So for the 24, I can use the 24/2.8K, the 24/2.8A or in the next day or so the Zeiss 25!

Ones of my favourite Lens combinations I use with the film bodies is 15/20/24/35. Of these I can only really cover the 20 in APS ie 14mm for 20. I would like a fully corrected (rather than fisheye) 10mm to cver the 15 area, an 18 for the 24 and a 24mm for the the 35.
In reality I would be happy with the a 10 and perhaps the 18. I can cover the rest using FF lenses.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way but I think it has less to do with fear and more with laziness.
People are used to "auto" everything from exposure to focus to tuning the TV and so on. MF takes time and patience to get right. When I started 50 years ago, there was no alternative so you had to learn and had to accept some bad shots until you did. Now if people get a few bad shots they go back to "auto".
As with any skill, MF takes time to master. ;)

The lenses I would like to see are not on the list! ;)
Thay's part of the problem. Everyone has different ideas and so you end up with a catch all that doesn't please that many.
FWIW, history has generally shown that the zoom ranges are well covered by the independants. Look at any "advice" thread and so many people suggest Sigma, Tamron etc as being better/cheaper etc.
For me then, I would like some of the "holes" in the prime range plugged. After all it has been where Pentax has been the strongest.
I abstain!!! LOL

The MZ50 has the crippled mount and the M lenses won't work. It's the same for the MZ30, the MZ60 and the *ist.
They will work with the P series and the MZ3, MZ5, MZ6, MZ7, MZ10 and the MZ-S.
The MZ3 and MZ5 have the feel and look of a "classic" film camera but with AF ;)

Although different films are affected in different way, I haven't yet found it a problem with the LX.
Just my "thought" and little eveidence other than the results but I think it has something to do with the way the sensor works. Most meter cells will "measure" a light level and you then just use it. In the auto mode the LX sensor effectively integrates the amount of light falling on the sensor and closes the shutter when enough has landed. It is why it can cope with changing light levels during the exposure.
As I said, just my thought but it also seems to suffer from reciprocity failure in the same way and which seems to match that of the film I have used. That is mainly Fuji.

If you want auto to use the A lenses, my vote would also go for the Super A/Super Program.

Not a pro but my answer is it depends on the situation ;)
Normally no. No so much for blurriness but more for noise. However, if a picture would be blurry without it because I can't hold the camera steady enough, then the noise is better ;)

I certainly haven't found it a problem. To me the finder even with the normal range of screens is brighter as any of my other Pentax bodies and probably on a par with some of the Fuji's. As a matter of interest, you can use the MX screens in the LX but not the other way round. The LX screens are generally brighter and affect the meter system in the MX.
Pentax also introduced 3 extra bright screens which are the equal of the Beattie screens with the LX2000 and these were available as spare parts. They are difficult to find now but well worth it. They are the "60" series ones ;)

They put the sensor in the Super A for TTL flash but went back to metering in the prism !
The other huge advantage was that the prism now does does not depend on metering off the screen so you can use any screen without affecting the meter.
Also great for tripod/macro work as you don't have to blank the finder.

You are quite right! Not long after I had the first LX, I had to take an aircraft to NZ and we stopped off in Singapore on the way. The view from the top of the hotel was fantastic and so I took some night shots. As I had always done in the past, I bracketed all the shots. As it turned out I shouldn't have bothered. The LX had given the right exposure everytime!
Another time I was way up North and it was the same for some photos of the Northern lights. Some of these exposures were nearly a minute but the LX coped with it in Auto. There is no way I could have done that even with my electronic Gossen meter!

My "most often" used setup on the film bodies is 15/3.5A, 20/2.8A, 24/2.8K, 28/2K, 35/2 ZK and 50/1.2.
For the K5 I can duplicate some of it. 14Ltd in place of the 20, 20Ltd in place of the 28, and 31Ltd in place of the 50.
I would far rather Pentax introduced a good 10mm fully corrected lens and something around the 24/25 mark. I think these would sell far better some some ultra fast lens and would do more for Pentax's reputation.

There is a much simpler way! Set the compur shutter to B and then just use the setup as a bellows lens. You can take the pics using the shutter in the Dslr and use that to fire the flash.
As a Certain Meercat would say "Simple!" Compare the Meerkat not Compare the Market

It would be easier to make a k mount body that takes an adapter similar to the Fuji one which auto stops down M42 lenses. That way they would act like using a K or M lens.
However, why should they? They are just as interested in selling new lenses as they are new bodies. As you say, the lenses you want to use wouldn't give them any profit ;)
