Well, I wanted to have a shallow DOF because otherwise the image felt flat in my opinion. And the blurred background added some mystery. I was experimenting with the focus point for the droplet - to have all contours in focus meant to lose that complexity within the droplet, so it was kind of a trade of. But I don't feel that there is a general lack of focus for the droplet.
But anyway I really appreciate your feedback - that was what I needed! Thank you! Now back to experiments.

I guess there are million of photos like this, so nothing original. But what about technical side - composition, post-processing etc.? What do you think?

Thanks! Well I had to keep those reeds in focus so I needed that f9, and longer exposure would blur the water. But I think that the noise is quite ok even for larger print. K5IIs handles noise quite well imho.

This photo reminds me of some Japanese or Chinese lithograph and the reeds look like hieroglyphs... I really like this photo, but I'm curious what others think of it in terms of technical quality etc.

Hello everybody! I just received my Lester A.Dine 105mm Macro lens and started to play with this beauty. One thing puzzles me - when I switch on the camera with the lens attached, I'm asked to dial in the focal length of the lens. Should I dial 100mm (full frame focal length) or 150mm (cropped sensor equivalent)? Tried both and don't see any difference in images so far.

Something really pleases me in this shot, however I have some doubts - have I got the composition right, maybe it's too dark? But when I try to make the shadows brighter, I feel it looses that "special something". So I need your opinion and constructive critique please!

Personally I disagree with this statement. If you crop an image you just slightly change the image size, make a better framing or use cropping to zoom in. You don't lose image quality that way unless you do heavy cropping. Resolution of modern digital cameras is very good and even if you do crop an image, it is still possible to make a high quality large size print.
Regarding your shot, it is quite nice, but I also find the upper part too distracting - it almost makes me feel dizzy. I would too crop it out and the result wold be much better I think.

You could check out the Vanguard Sedona backpacks which come in 3 sizes. They look like ordinary backpacks, but are actually a very nice photo bags. They open up on backside so noone can steal anything in crowd and are actually quite covenient. You swing it around like the Lowepro described above, and access your gear without needing to take the bag off. I have the biggest one myself and really like it. It's possible to take out the photo gear compartments and use the bag as ordinary backpack too.

Aperture around f11 would be better ofcourse, but when I was shooting this plant I did not have a tripod with me unfortunately and I also wanted as less grain as possible and went for lower ISO. So we were discussing with my wife and could not come to a definite conclusion - did I got the focus right in this shot or didn't? What do you folks think?

Ok, Here is the second attempt shooting that fluffy flower. Luckily no wind this time. It seems that bugs are avoiding this thing, so I tried different composition. What do you think? Did I get the focus right this time?

Thanks for the suggestions. Sure, this lens is not a true macro but rather a close-focusing telephoto. Biggest problem of this lens is PF. It is mostly evident shooting bright objects on dark background or vice versa. Tamron 90mm or Pentax 100mm is on the buying list as soon as my budget will allow it.
I thought that this plant flower looks interesting on it's own. And unfortunately all bugs were busy somewhere else at that particular moment :) It was shot using a tripod, but there was wind at that day (as in most days this summer) so it was tricky do get the focus right. Maybe I should have used higher shutter speed to achieve better sharpness.

I'm using Samsung Pro 32gb SDHC in my K5IIs. Write speed up to 80Mb. Works really fine and is fast even in burst mode (shooting JPEGs in the highest dpi settings).

Thanks for your opinions guys! Well I also thought that it's best to leave this pic as it is. PS would only ruin it, because it looks as it really was when I shot the scene - colourful and a bit dramatic with those dark clouds coming our way.

Hi!
I just got myself a Pentax K-5 IIs (used but in mint condition with just ~200 shots made). It is an upgrade from my old Pentax K-10D which served me well for many years. Me and my family went to the countryside this weekend so I naturally took my new camera with me. Below there are some pictures. No big art - just to see what the k-5IIs is capable with my Tamron lenses (17-50 F2.8 Dii; 70-300 F4-5.6 Di Macro). The weather was not very pleasant - frequent rain and strong winds, so we had to stay inside for the most time and it was also quite difficult to shoot macro (used burst mode to get at least some images in focus). Overall I'm really impressed by the performance of the camera, especially the sharpness. About the macro shots - yeah, the focus could be better at times, but as I said, the conditions were quite challenging because of the strong wind.
