Amazing work, love the photos. What size pinhole do you use?
The leica-style bottom loading is just the perfect solution for this model.

I have one copy of this lens. It`s spectacular in film body at 12mm. Who knows if Pentax will go full-frame one day.

A trio of flamingos in flight. TAV mode comes in especially handy in such situations. EXIF data does not capture the focal length/aperture adjustments due to the 1.4x TC.

Out of curiosity how does the XR-7 compare to XR-P? I have the latter and quite like it, but I don't think I've used it enough to justify a strong opinion. Seems like Ricoh made quite a strong lineup of manual SLRs back in the days.

Bump for a great sleeper lens. It can be used like a "A" lens on Ricoh XR series bodies, but on Pentax bodies it works like a "M" lens. At this price it's a real bargain, I'd pick it up if I don't have mine already. Some sample images taken with this lens on my Ricoh XR-P with ilford delta 3200 B/W.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost to have the LX CLA'ed? I don't know if there are any local repair shops that I can trust with an LX,. Eric is definitely the most knowledgeable person there is.

Thanks for the suggestions. I asked the seller about the winder/motor drive but frankly I don't think he knows anything about it. (The seller is a high-school student, probably find this camera in the house somewhere)
I'll try emailing Eric to see if he can sell me a pair for a reasonable price.
Thanks again.

I picked up a used LX yesterday and it's missing both screw covers. I asked the seller whether he has the winder/motor drive stashed somewhere (as the caps are usually stored there) but he doesn't seem to have it. Does anyone know of a place (other than ebay) where I can get replacements for these? Any screw covers from other cameras that I can salvage and use for the LX?
I also tried the winder I have from my brother's LX on this body, but it doesn't seem to be working. It winds the film some of the times but not always. Pressing the shutter release doesn't trigger the shutters. Without the winder it works fine. I tried cleaning the 4 little electrical contacts but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. Any one with similar experience?

Focal length and aperture is independent of the film/sensor format.

Haha, isn't that the truth! Kudos to you for going ahead and making the first prototype. I think that's a good approach to work out some of the kinks before attempting a full-blown conversion. Thanks for the hint on where to hunt for the ring.
I'll document my attempt when I get around to doing it.

I've been thinking of a M645-PK adaptor for some time. And your solution seems pretty practical. Any concern with using so many plastic parts to hold these rather hefty lenses? I don't think the back-cap of the M645 holds it very tightly. Is the epoxy glue strong enough to hold the PK mount to the PVC tube? I'm sure you've tested it, but these are some of the concern in my mind when I look at your setup.
For me, I'm using a M645 extension tube as the main part for the converter (as discussed here). I'm in the process of hunting for the metal ring with the correct size to match the PK lens mount to the M645 adapter.
I totally agree with you that there are a slew of good lenses floating in the market, waiting to be used. the image circle of M645 projected on APS-C sensor means we're getting the center/sharpest portion!

I would recommend the Pentax K 28mm f/3.5 shift (see review here). For these grand architecture shots it's important to keep the lines straight IMO.

If you have ground glass (I've heard that if you lightly sand a CD case it works similarly), you can place that where the film sits with the back open. Set the camera on tripod and manually focus until you get a sharp image on the ground glass. Then compare that focusing distance to your MF & AF value.
Or even simpler, you can use a different camera that you know focuses accurately, set a tripod, use that camera to focus and mark down the focusing distance. Then put the same lens on the MZ3 and place it on the tripod, you should be able to tell whether MF or AF is more accurate.

I've never come across P645-P/K tilt/shift adapter. In theory I think a shift adapter is possible (although probably not too much shift due to the rather "small" image circle of the P645). The difference in flange distances between the two formats means you probably won't get 8-10 degree tilt even if there's such an adapter.
All in all, I think from a technical standpoint a P67-P/K adapter makes more sense. All of the statements above assumes infinity-focus is preserved.

Thanks Georg. I think you're right, there's definitely one more part that's required for bridging the flange distance and for providing the mechanical support. The lens I'm interested in will be used for portraits, so I wasn't too concerned about getting the flange distance exactly right (losing infinity focus is not such a big deal).
I guess for now I can gather the material and do the said measurements. Maybe sketch up the part drawing and see if I can find someone to make it for me.
Thanks!

I have some questions for the expert tinkerers. What I have in mind is adapting a Mamiya 645 lens to Pentax K mount. There should be plenty of flange distance to play with (63.3mm to 45.46mm), and I even found an adapter on the auction site. The pre-fab adapter is really pricey at $100 + shipping. What I want to do is try to hack my own adapter with a Mamiya extension tube (so I don't have to mess up the lens mount) and some old garbage K-mount lens lying around. What I am not too sure at this point is the difficulty in joining the metal barrels together. Without access to a metal workshop do you think it's feasible to construct a sturdy adapter from the components mentioned? Would epoxy such as "JB weld" be strong enough for the job?
Your inputs/suggestions are much appreciated. :)

Just want to point out that unless the lens is to be used on a screw-mount body oil in the blades shouldn't be a problem since the adapter pretty much negates the aperture pin. With stop-down metering sluggish blades is not going to be an issue.

Thank you Adam, it is much better now. I noticed the subtle change (the ease in scanning) and then came back to this tread to see that the tags been moved to the back (great suggestion btw).

Agreed, the viewing lens have less mechanism sticking out of it so it's easier to build around, but there is no f-stop control (the only exception being the late 105mm lens with DoF preview viewing lens). If you use the taking lens you have to find a way to keep the leaf shutter open (i.e. with a shutter release cable connected to your tilt-shift rig. One good thing with using the taking lens is that you get up to 1/500s flash sync with the leaf shutter, but you'll likely need a tripod to make sure the framing hasn't changed while you frame your composition > focus > close the shutter > wind the shutter > set camera to bulb & fire the camera shutter > fire the shutter on lens. So in that sense it's probably not that useful...

Great illustration. But it's not an exactly apple-to-apple comparison since the bird is missing in the tilted picture. :D :D
It's too bad that for Pentax users there isn't a really wide perspective-control lens. 35mm seems to be the widest rectilinear option there is. It's one of the (rare) cases where Canon has a clear advantage. Full-frame body with the 17mm would be amazing. But for the price of that rig one might as well go full out with a LF field camera, or a baby-technika, or a GX680.

Oh, never thought of the interior of the adaptor as the cause for reduced contrast. I guess it would be difficult if not impossible to flock the inside of the adaptor with all those moving parts.
