I think the HDF is a small filter that comes on top of the sensor, that's why it can't be done via firmware update. If I remember correctly, it is possible to reproduce the effect with DSLR when using some special filter on the lens (Tiffen Glimmerglass and others).

Surprising, because camera makers usually make a lot of money from own-brand flash units, even if they are made by separate electronics company with a camera brand logo added.

Extended bracketing disappeared after the K5, after acquisition of Pentax by Ricoh. Ricoh re-introduced some extended bracketing in the Pentax KP, but not in other cameras, I'm not 100% sure about the Pentax K3 III and k3III mono.

If your budget will extend to it, the GR III or GR IIIx are more pocketable than either the Q series or the MX-1. The APS-C sensor is also orders of magnitude better than either, and the two fixed lenses are exceptional.
But the Q cameras are great fun, and the 08 wide zoom, 01 standard prime and 06 telephoto zoom are surprisingly good lenses. The ability to adapt other lenses for extreme telephoto or macro applications is unique. The backlit 1/1.7" sensor punches well above its weight.
I have no experience with the MX-1. It is a cute looking, retro-styled compact camera, but it always seemed to be more of a set of compromises than qualities to me. Perhaps that's unfair, but that's how I saw it at the time.

The RX100 can also be found exceptionally cheap. A gen 1 can be found under 100 dollars. I personally wouldn't bother with an MX-1 at its current unreasonable pricing. The Q on the other hand is fun for other reasons.

The reason neither of the cameras you mention is of interest to me is that they lack two featuresl that I find essential: a viewfinder of some sort, and a level gauge. My solution to this problem is a Panasonic Lumix TZ100: 1" sensor, 25-250mm range, EVF and level gauge.
That said, the most 'pocket friendly' camera I own is the Panasonic Lumix LF1, a ten year old model with the same sensor size as the Q7 and the MX, or alternatively, the Nikon Coolpix P7100 which has an OVF, a 10mpx CCD sensor of the same size (1/1.7"), and which I sometimes takes out to play alongside my K200D, also a 10mpx CCD.
You have to decide which features are essential to you.

As a piece of evidence the market is there for a new compact film camera, I watched an auction last night on America's favorite charity camera site...
It contained (in what looks like good condition):
Vivitar PS45 (focus free),
Samsung 38-105 "big compact" (like the original IQZoom 105),
Olympus OM10PC (with the shutter speed adapter),
Pentax IQZoom 60R, and
two Olympus Trip 35s
Final bid was $1,000 even. As-is, no warranty.
I'm guessing the money was chasing only the Trip 35s, with the rest thrown in for fun, but wow...
So maybe this isn't a terrible idea :p

Fixed!
Main board got fried, cost around ~400USD to replace it.
But now works like a charm!

Wouldn't it be wild if Pentax is also working on a new medium format film camera too? ---------- Post added 11-18-23 at 06:43 AM ---------- Nah that's way too crazy... or just crazy enough to work?

Interesting that we are back to the Pentax name with this, rather than "Ricoh".

Nick: Even this being an old thread, this new one might be of interest to you: KP screen black out when flipped. - PentaxForums.com
Simply because now we have photos of a problem which hits more and more Pentax KP's and it is something serious and imo very possibly related to yours:
- the flex-ribbon cable can push the WR silicon part through the inside of the body and then there is not only no more WR but truly "an open door or window" for
water gushing in!
- this is because the cable does get damaged there due to the fact that it was un-professionally constructed designed!
I have used my K5 which has a high shuttercount and is very rugged in pouring rain as well and I would have expected that the KP would be as good protected as the K5 but it isn't: K5 77 seals, KP just 67 seals... the K30 has 81, K-70 has 100 !!!)

Over the past 3 years, Pentax has released one new camera, and one slightly updated camera... four new lenses, three updated lenses, and one modified third-party lens.
We've also gotten the new GR IIIx and its accompanying teleconverter.
I bet that if you calculated a ratio from units sold with models introduced, Ricoh is competitive with any of the mainstream brands.
