To; Sumner Washington.

I live in Bremerton Wash. I need a lens like yours. I am now useing a 70/300 SIGMA. I do outdoor photography. I have used my SIGMA for about 5 years and had i cleaned once but it is kind of getting worn out and is good for the scrap heap.I am paying my taxes now but in November I would like to buy your lens. I can drive down to you and pick it up. Can you wait a few weeks? ?

Thanks for the help Ash, Ken T, Lowell Goudge," I, You All " have it figured out. Like i said the Primes are good. My KIT LENS 18-55 was driving me nuts. I did as sugested and tried to set it manually. I could not turn the focus "ring" ????? The lens was off the camera. I tinkered with it and got it to move. I wiped as much of the barrel as i could and twisted the barrell parts for 5 minutes....... I put the 18-55 back on the camera and it worked to the 3.5 opening..... seems the lens was dirty. I use newspaper plastic covers as much as i can but it is hard to protect lenses

I do a lot of out door photo"s in the Northwest. I take my Pentax out in rain, snow, and salt water spray sometimes. That is why i bought it. Tough as a brick. I am going to up grade to the WR lenses as they come available. I do not use my primes much accept when i need extra sharp pictures or ..... and have time to compose the picture...... Critters in the woods or bad weather sometimes don't accomadate me sometimes.

Thanks for the heads up on focal lengths. i will pay more attention to it in the future.... Have a good "Picture Perfect Day".......
:D

????? I have never set the Focal Lenth..... I pulled off a lens and found it was set to 35mm. I reset it to 40mm and i got the Aperture up to 4.5......The lens should be at 3.5..... I tried higher than 40mm but i could not get better. I tried lower than 35mm for fun but did not do any better.
The Sigma 120-400 also got 4.5.....And that is as big as it goes.......So some of my problem is solved.
I don't have the 70-300 Sigma lens as it is into the cleaners for dirt i got into it while taking pictures of Steam Boat Rock up on the Columbia River.
I did a reset to default settings with no help. The Prime 100mm and 50mm still work at 40mm

I have a k10. It has been good for 2 years. Images are sharp. Light control is good. Color is good. Now my Problem.
I have a Kit lens which is a 18-55. 3.5-56. In dim areas the camera says the widest opening i can get on the lens is 5.6. I put a prime Pentax 100mm 2.8 and the K10 says it can go to 2.8. Good. If i put a prime 50mm on the K10 the camera says i can go to 1.4.... Good...If i put on my Sigma 120-400 4.5-56 on the camera the camera says i can go to only 5.6........ I:confused: have a favorite Sigma 70-300 that i have used for years and i can only go to 5.6 on it too......

Have i done something stupid with settings or do i have a problem with firmware or software....

Thanks for your thoughts.

Nikon picture sharpening?

First All Thank You for the Birthday Note on my Computer

i have been useing a Pentax K10 for about 2 years now. i have been happy. I also have a Cannon FX i bought in 1964. i stopped useing it about 10 years ago as i got tired paying 200$ every time the thing froze up here in the salt air of Bremerton Wash.

I do out door photo work and make pine frames and sell such. But you know, every since i bought the k10 i have heard things about Nikon and Cannon being better. It just sat in my gut and gave me that dumb feeling.

I have a brother in law in Washing DC. He came out here 2 years ago to take pictures of Mt Rainier. He used my computer to down load 600 pictures to put then on disc to take home. I ignored his stuff for as i have 11,000 of my own to work with to sell. Well, my brother has been of down lately so i decided to sen him some of his pictures. I used my Lightroom to pull them up. I looked at them as said to myself,"These need touching up." After about sharping 8 of them, it hit me...... What am i doing sharping up Nikon pictures???? I know that my Pentax primes are sharper than my Zooms. And i don't know if he used Zoom or prime the days he was here 2 years ago. But,,,,, i do know that he used Nikon lenses. He never uses anything that isn't Nikon....

BBOOMM!!!! As far as i am concerned the LEGEND of Nikon Supreme is dust!!! I sampled many of his 600 photos and i found the same thing.... They all needed a little sharpening. He uses a tripod. He composes his shots well. I am Happy with my Pentax k10 with no more nagging gut ache!!! I cleaned up my brother-in-laws photo's and sent them to him with fond well wishs and said nothing about my compareing his Nikon to a Pentax k10. To you Pentaxian's," Ya Got Good Gear and Optics." Don't doubt it............

Split Image focus

I retired 2 years ago and bought the k10. I bought it because of its 72 water seals and my brother has one and he told me to do it.? My last camera, that i still have, is a Cannon FX. I bought it in 1965 when i was in the Army in Europe. I took a lot of pictures with it when i was on leave in Europe. I have used it a lot over the years. I have always loved the camera except for one thing. I live in the Pacific Norwest in Bremerton Wa. We have rain mixed with ducks here. I love to shoot outdoor photos. We also have a lot of salt in the air because of Puget Sound. I have taken the Cannon in 2 times for cleaning frozen parts at a $175.00 a bill. So i give up and put it on the shelf.
The best thing i liked about it was its SPLIT IMAGE FOCUS. I missed it on my k10. I sent away for a split image plate from KATZ EYE T OPTICS. I have installed it and of course i like it. I don't think it was as refined as the Cannon factory one but i am happy. My brother, who has the came k10 that i have, has shown me how to use a CENTERED WEIGHTED METERING or MULTI-SEGMENT METERING. The center spot Metering is qestionable for me right now. This is why i suppose Pentax did not put it on in the first place.

But i like the Split Image is great for a fast CHECK on focus when shooting through fog or branches or such stuff that confuses the meter.
In todays world we can get a lot of 3rd party lenses. And, are they on focus.? I have discovered a great thing about the SPLIT IMAGE. I can put any lens on the camera and auto focus it on a distant object. While i am looking through the camera i look at the split image to see if some line on a distant object is broken or straight. If it is broken than i have to ajust my lens manually or with the focus settings either +or-. The split image is a no brainer. It shows me if the lens is dead on or not. I am 100% happy with my Pentax k10 and "try " to buy Pentax lenses to support the Manufacture and reseach of such.
