I've never used any lens as much as the 50-200mm that came with my K-50. It's just so darn versatile.

Yeah. Once I get my refund, I'm just gonna pay the price for a new one instead of gamble with a used lens again.

good news is, I looked back through his listing that I had saved, and he does have a 30 day no question return policy. So I've contacted him to get it sent it back. Sucks that it didn't work out because I was really excited for this lens, but at least the seller is accepting returns.

I'm gonna try contacting the guy I got it from, but I'm not super hopeful. Kind of what happens trying to go the cheap route sometimes.

It has the same issue on my K-50 (My only other AF Pentax)
I've been doing some more testing. Up to 50mm the AF will lock through the viewfinder. At 50mm it struggles a little bit, but does eventually focus. Anything over 50mm won't lock the AF, and searches back and forth before stopping.

I've got a brand new K-70, less than 500 photos through it so far. Any other lens I've put on the camera has worked just fine, but I recently picked up a used 18-135mm DA WR lens and the autofocus only locks in live view.
With live view off (just looking through the view finder like normal), when it tries to autofocus, it goes back and forth, never locks and beeps at me and usually stops just out of focus.
I've already tried cleaning the contacts and that hasn't helped. Wondering if there's anything else I can troubleshoot to try and fix the problem.
I'm probably not going to bother sending it for repairs, because it still technically works. But it's still a bummer. Since I got it used off someone online, there's no sending it back.

Absolutely, Kit lenses these days are all around pretty good. Maybe not amazing sharp sometimes, but well more than enough to get the job done until money comes in for the higher quality glass. I have some other decent primes and such, but my kit 18-55mm is always my go to lens for car shows, because with the distances I have to take shots at it covers it all perfectly.

This little set comes from a car show I shot up in Logan, UT around the 4th of July. I particularly liked how these came out.

Always hard to get great shots at car shows, but I was very happy with how these turned out.

So, I just picked up this pack of gear for $45. Everything seems to have been very well kept and working, though obviously enjoyed. Even has some unused 35mm film in the bag. Not sure how old the film is, but I'll probably run it through this or my K1000 at some point. |

Man I love the older cameras. I'd collect them all if I could. Just got my k1000 for now though. Still need to get some film and give it some love.

Took this tonight with my DA L 50-200mm kit lens and my K-50.
My first experiment with night time/longer exposures. I love how it turned out. |

When I see it, it automatically downsizes it to fit the monitor. (Also automatically downsizes when I view it on my phone) I didn't realize it didn't do the same for everyone, as I thought it was maybe a forum setting or something. I'll post smaller sizes in the future.

I am also curious about flashes. I plan on shooting outdoors, in the sun (car shows) and having a good flash that balance things out would be fantastic. I have a K-50 as well.
Do any of the previously mentioned flashes work for this sort of photography?

Taken with my Quantaray 70-300 macro
My first attempt at macro photography, and trying to catch flying insects is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Shot almost 600 photos, and I had the massive problem of the insect either being in focus and not entirely in frame, or in frame and not in focus. haha. A fun learning experience though.
inanimate objects are much easier. |

I agree with that in the sense that if people really liked the lenses they'd probably use them more often, but I also like having random clubs available for some of the lenses I have. Like my Rikenon 50mm, for example. I may not use it a ton, but I like that there is a club, though not very active, for Rikenon lenses.

Thanks for all the help guys. PMed you Macro.
Sorry DC, I got here after both you posted and the new notifications button sent me to the bottom. I noticed his post before yours. Thanks for the offer as well though.

I agree that a stickied index of club threads would be an excellent idea.

I love both clubs that are exclusive to one lens/type of lens as well as more general ones, like the 300+.
These clubs, combined with an excellent archive of lens reviews are so good for me, as I look for future lenses I might want. I try to contribute sometimes, as I can myself, too.

Yeah, it was definitely glued on originally. I imagine someone dropped it or something and it just busted off. I imagined it'd be hard to find that one piece. And like you were saying the AF works quick and well. My wife seemed to like it too. When I finally get the money to get her a Pentax I can imagine she'll use it more than me. Haha.
I did find a few cheap ones in good condition on ebay as well, if I ever feel the need to get a second.

So I picked this lens up today from the thrift shop for $10. It works great and all that, but has a piece missing. The focus ring on the front of the lens is gone, and I was curious if anyone had any idea where I could find one. If someone had a garbage lense I could just buy the ring off that would be great, but i imagine I'm just out of luck in this case. I love to use MF the most, but luckily this lens is actually pretty darn fast with its AF.
Anyway, here's a picture of it, and then a picture of what it should look like.
If anyone can help me out here, I'd appreciate it.
