K70 Interval Movie Problems

I am having battery problems with my K70.

I have a Kumquat tree that is blossoming and I have been taking Interval Movies to capture the blossoms as they open up.

The problem is that the battery dies after about 90 shots. The camera is set for Auto ISO 6400, F11 on the P mode with exposures every 7 minutes. The max seems to be 500 exposures but I get less than 100 shots before the battery dies.

I got some good movies but they always seem to stop before the real action happens. Ideally all 500 shots would be exposed so that I get from bud to full open.

Any thoughts of what I may be doing wrong? No flash used.

Dartmore Dave

OK. Finally got the cable to hook up the k10d to the PK tether program. Cool program! I got the camera into Debug mode with no problem, but after checking each menu twice I never saw the release aging option.

I was able to get the camera to do everything through the program even multiple exposures. I can hear the shutter try to release but never make it happen.

Thank yoiu all for the great advise and instruction. Is there anything else to try? I cant make the K10 any more dead.

I did see a great DYI article on converting DLSRs into lamps. That might be my next project.....

Another fine idea ( I Hope). But I have no idea of how to get to the Debug menu.

I await further information from you.

No joy on the remote. I can hear something go Whirr when the shutter release activates. Sort of like a older car trying to turn over zs the battery is dieing. Yes my batteries are fully charged.

Each great suggestion stirs hope and then is quickly dashed. But if someone has another idea I am waiting here with paperweight in hand.

Goats - great advice, I had not even thought that it might be the firmware. With great hope I figured out how to update the K10. But again was met with failure. The camera went from Ver 1.30 to 1.31.

A virgin sacrifice? Some chickens perhaps? Anything that might work is worthwhile. Otherwise it will make a nice addition to my old camera collection (also know as my paperweight collection...)

Been gone a long time from the forum.

My K10 just died. Taking handheld sunset shots and the shutter release just failed. No trauma, no violence. Working fine and then not so much.

I have changed all the variables with batteries and no joy.

Everything else works just not the shutter release.

Is it a lost cause? Is there a quick miracle fix? How much to repair? Or just not worth it?

Thanks for any info....

I have had my K10 for a couple of years now and had forgotten how I had the battery set up until reading your post. I have the battery grip and have only the one battery there. I got tired of taking the grip off to replace the battery in the body so I only use the grip battery, I have 4 extra batteries that I most always carry with me. It also makes the camera that much lighter. FWIW

Suggestion Spellcheck (for adam)

There were two friends who decided to have a little friendly competition.

They wanted to see who would get the most responses to a single post on their favorite forum (Pentax?). They each took a day to compose what they thought would get the most responses.

After posting they sat back and waited for the 24 hours to elapse. They met and checked the forum. The first friend pulled up his post and told his friend that he was sure he would win since he had a well reasoned post, carefully thought out, well written and supported by actual facts. But much to his surprise he had only 3 responses. Disappointed, he turned to his friend and they pulled up the other post.

His friend on the other hand had a much shorter post but had over 1000 responses. "What did you do to get so many more responses than me?" he asked.

"Well, I thought of doing what you did , but in the end I decided to misspell a couple of words".

You're right. It is a twin lens reflex. I misspoke before.

You're wrong, this TLR does have interchangeable lenses.

I am not that familiar with this brand (not at all really), but I know what I saw. Or think I saw. I was mostly trying not to spill my beer on the stuff.

Adam - i hope this is the right place for this type of post.

A friend recently asked me to look at her camera when I came over to her house for a pool party recently.

I imagined it was some sort of digital camera that she was having trouble using or maybe couldn't figure out how to use the flash properly.

Instead she brought out a large box and proceeded to empty it on her dining room table. She had a Rolleiflex. Not just a camera, but a whole system, everything I imagine you could buy to have a complete kit. I don't have the model numbers but I do know the camera and everything else was bought in 1958 or so.

She tells me that her uncle was wealthy and would buy something that caught his eye and then loose interest quickly. Everything had been placed in a box and then forgotten.

52 years later I am looking at her camera and it looks like it just came from the store.

Camera with lens
2 additional lenses in original leather case
6 extra lens caps
more than a dozen filters in original leather cases
flash, attaches to the viewing lens, in original leather case
trigger grip
2 or 3 cable releases
quick release for tripod
hood viewer in original leather case

Everything looks to be in mint condition except the leather case for the camera itself. One seam has come undone. But the leather on all the cases is uncracked and is still supple. Some of the filter cases still have the original manufacturers paperwork in them. There is even a handwritten list of items on stationary from the store the uncle bought everything from (some place in Indiana)

To say the least I was excited to see all this in one place. She had no idea of the value of the collection. I just knew that it was out of my price range.

She has asked me to coordinate the sale for a commission.

Now the questions---

Any idea on how best to sell everything? Ebay comes to mind but is there anywhere else?

Sell it as a collection? Or piece by piece? Just one of the lens caps were going for $100 USD on eBay.

What is a fair commission?

Is there and equivalent ROLLEIFLEX forum out there?

It is at $200 USD as I post.

K10D Batteries.

A while back I bought 2 of the DL150 batteries from an online company. Great price and great shipping. I got them to supplement the two batteries that came with the kit from Cameta.

Everything has been going along smoothly until battery #2 of the original 2 started messing up. It would turn the camera off then turn it back on all by itself. It would let the camera take a shot or two and then turn off. When I manually turned the camera back on the last 2 or so shots were not there. When using the other three batteries the camera works fine. I would rather replace the battery than the camera it self.

Problem it that I can't remember the online store I got the batteries from. Does anyone have a good source that they would share? I don't want to spend $40 USD on Amazon but I also don't want to buy something that will mess up my camera or disturb my mellow. You know what I mean?

TIA

Tim

$300-ish taller tripod - know of one?

I recommend this tripod too. Just had it on a beach in Long Island Sound with wind sustained at about 20 mph. with the legs deployed I was very comfortable.

With all legs extended and the center post up all the way the camera must have been 7 ft in the air, or more. I am 6ft and could not see the top display.

It is heavy and very sturdy. Not for hiking but definitely for studio or in the park stuff. Center post comes out and reverses with has bee handy a few times. I might want a smaller tripod for some things but never a bigger one.

There are some many great suggestions and the global nature of this forum seems to limit the practicality of some topics.

So how about this - "My absolute best"

Limited to Pentax, film or digital. And only something that has not been posted here or on Flickr or some other such site.

And only one submission per photographer,

That's my idea, among the many.

Yes, the originals would be best.

But nobody has asked about the files.

Does your brother have the files from the drug store or whoever scanned them? If so you could avoid a lot of PP and just work on the contrast of the photos themselves.

Just a thought.

(I messed around with the picture you posted and got decent results with just duplicating a layer and changing the blending method to multiple and then duplicating that layer once or twice)

One of the few things that the K10 did not have went I got it was a flip out viewfinder. When I see other models with one I get jealous.

I don't know why I had not thought of this before.

Back in my studio days I used a great big ungainly medium format film camera. When I changed orientations to shoot portraits the image in the viewfinder became upside down and backwards as opposed to just backwards. So this little DYI should be no problem.

I have been fascinated with glass blowing and art ever since an artist came to my school in Germany in the 4th grade. He dazzled us with blobs of glass and what he did with them.

I found this museum in my travels to Tacoma WA. They have a great gift shop and lots of art on display, but what keeps me coming back is the artist studio where they actually make the stuff. You can get real close to the action either in the seats or the walkways that bring you to a spot directly over the glory holes.

The are a few more shots in my set on Tacoma Museum of Glass - a set on Flickr

This artwork has been a favorite of mine for decades now. I dont remember the name if I ever knew it. I sometimes think of it a portal to the sound beyond.

Other times I feel it is a remnant of the Guardian of Forever, but just for a moment.

What I know is that I like it and this has to be the best shot I have ever taken of it.

Spotmatic and Camera Collecting

I was in Tacoma WA this last weekend and had time to stop by an old fashioned swap meet/flea market. I found a few cool things that I collect. Then I stumbled onto a Spotmatic body with a JC Penny 2.8 135 mm lens. The lens was loose in parts but the body seemed to work just fine. The seller wanted $15 for it but I got him down to $6.

He had Nikons and Canons but only the one Pentax. Other than my K10D and a really neat Pentax table top lighter this is my second Pentax. I may never shoot film in it but I can appreciate what others on the forum have said about the model.

I was able to tight some of the rings up and the lens seems handle better now. Once I clean the elements a bit and get a battery for the meter I may just load a roll or two of film.
