I do a lot of shooting in very low light, since my shooting is very wide latitude during the 24h and not in a constant place. The Pentax has been ok, but just havent seemed up to my needs, always missed something. I'll go testing the D700 when i'll set my foot on dry land again and see how its feeling. I'm a fan of primes and i would be fond of a set of 20/50/100, but i need to keep looking for what to go on, probably an 24-70/2.8 instead.
It seems some people are offended by my original post, all i did was to try getting personal experiences from those who shared similar experiences.

How about the dynamic range of the different censors then? The Nikon is supplied with Sony censors and Pentax by Samsung and the D700 has gotten great reviews of the DR.
It looks to me that the Samsung censors dont tend to handle great contrast differances. I work at sea and the bigger contrast changes seem difficult to Pentax, I cant tell on my own hand how the Nikon D700 or Sony a900 / a850 handles those situations, but what i've seen from fellow mates is that it handles quite well. The size/weight differance is off course of matter, the lens prices (and weight) for Nikon and Zeiss is not so huge, on the Alpha you can also use first class Minolta lenses. On the Sony you get in body SR and on Nikon you get it at the lenses.

That lens isnt designed for APS-S censor, it is designed for 35mm, off course usable on DX.

Sure, i'll give you all some sort of notice about the future. I keep my takumar's 28/3.5, 50/1.4 and 105/2.8 for my borrowed LX.

Just out of curiosity, what lens are you thinking of? The Nikon 80-200/2.8 is old design, i never heard about a version just for APS-C?

The only bad thing about Nikon is the lack of ability to use old other brand lenses on it due to flange range, Canon would be the solution, but i dont like canon as i had EOS film cameras before and never really felt comfortable with them. Nikon has great lenses, but but, i rally dont know which one to go for at this point. I'll keep selling away my Pentax lenses and save the money to another system.

you might be right in that one, the small AI-S nikkor wideangles were just amazing.
Maybe a D700, AF-D 20-35/2.8 and the AF-D 80-200/2.8 and a flash, should do it, plus an 50/1.4?
Anyway the prices i've seen for the D700 is only about 150€ more than the A900 offer i got.

Here we are, nothing about a fullframer from Pentax and seems like it'll take years to go there, I am in a stage to sell my Pentax gear and looking at the Sony a900 / a850 or the Nikon D700 to get the FF.
I have an offer for an Sony a900 for 1999€ (last in store) and i am 99% close to take it now. I like Pentax and was just about to buy the Pentax K-7 but i just really wanted to know the Pentax/Hoya would release an FF during the next 12 or 24 months, but seems like they totally dumped that.
The choice between the D700 and A900 is bit difficult for me anyway at this moment, but as it seems now, bye bye Pentax!

I am close to negotiating a Zuiko 21/2 and is thinking of a conversion to the PK mount, any help available or should i just leave it to my repairshop guy (in-house trained by Olympus in the 60's, 70's and 80's?)?

Mostly the idea is of my work surroundings ( i work in the maritime industry ). My idea is that it would be great to have both a sharp macro lens and an well behaving portrait lens (working distance 1-5m).

It seems like i could need a macro lens, so what shall i try to find?
A new AF from Pentax, from an independent maker (sigma / tamron / voigtländer), some old Asahi Takumar or what?
Great color rendetion,
also working in B/W,
great contrast,
sharp,
bokeh,
is there any macro lens that works great for portraits (w/o showing every blemish on skin)
What should i try to find or am i just asking for too much?
Going down to 1/1 would be fabolous w/o going too close, maybe something in 75-100mm range?
Ps, i have no experience in macro lenses, just close-focusing lenses like Nikkor Ai-s 28/2.8 and Leica 50DR and similar.

I think i have to post-pone my K-7 order a bit with the prices rising now since i would need to get a 16-50/2.8 at least and i dont like sigma (althought they have the 17-70, but probably cant compete with the quality of Pentax) and i found a piece for around 600€ and i'll probably need to order this one now (If some one knows a better price, pls pm me or write here).
Btw, forgot to mention the price for the 16-50/2.8 is around 1000€ here in Finland.

For me it was the most bang for the buck, dont take me wrong now, I love pentax, but i dont care the brand, just what i can achieve with the piece. I most likely want to hide all brand markings on my stuff since i dont need to think about that, but this is obscure.

Over here in Europe we had this happen a while ago. I bought my 50-135 for about (incl int shipping & ins) for about 600€, now its around 1000€, also the DA14 for around 400e, now its around 600€, the FA43 i bought new (incl shade etc) for a bit over 400€, its now over 600€ on most places, but d*mn, now I would need a normal zoom replacement for my kitlens and i cant afford a 16-50/2.8 with these prices... especially when i would need to get money for the K-7 also

Well, anything in the same range and quality aka Olympus Zuiko 12-60/2.8 (5x zoom range)) to Pentax, well the same contrast and sharpness etc isnt probably, but anything close? The 16-50 is a little too limiting for an all-roud travel lens for me.

(I posted similarly on photo.net)
At the moment i have a lot of mixed gear and a lot i dont use any or very very little, i've been thinking of selling all extra and accesories to raise funds for some gear.
I think to (maybe?) keep my Pentax K200D with the Katzeye screen as a reserve and still get the new K-7 which seems to be a nice camera.
I though about getting the K20 earlier, but the K-7 is a little smaller and i like the better design of it and of course, why get something else when you can get the newer version instead (will probably sell a Metz 15 MS-1 ringflash and some lenses, like the 14mm, some takumars and for the K-7 to get one 55/1.4 and a regular flash)? Allready have the 50-135/28 Pentax, but I'd like to get the older 80-200/2.8 instead. This might be some off-topic, but i'll write it anyway... Not totally sure whether to sell or keep my Leica M6 (+ the 50/2 Dual-range with gogles and shade, a summar 50/2) instead for (when getting my pre-ordered one) Olympus E-P1 with the 17mm and finder. Also have some other fixed lens rangefinders that i might sell..
Whats your ideas?

Actually this have occured to myself a few times with a lens that had damaged front, just take a towel and wrap around the filter ring firmly, with your other hand a firm grip around the lens and gently squezing the ring in its open direction. This helped me and is the best way not to damage any item and saves your hands also.

So i am looking for a decent, fairly "small", good contrast and nice telephoto lens in the range of 300mm or longer to my set, what good options do i have for PK-mount?
Aperture could be around f4, old manual lenses is mainly what i am thinking of, so m-a-y-b-e some nice takumars also, but i dont like the weakness of the PK-M42 adapter with a rather heavy lens.
My budget is around 500 euros, enough?
Should i just try to hunt down a FA(*) 300mm/4.5 for this anyway incase i need AF someday, or just some older PK-M or PK-A 300/4, whats the quality of these and differance?
