Hi
I live in New Zealand and bought my K30 from B& H in the USA in 2013.At start was OK. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/258577-p...-liveview.html
Then after I used a 100-400 lens K30 went haywire. Here is url of K30 in Pentax Forum in April 2014 :
By the time I took camera to a leading camera shop in NZ i had passed warranty time.
Was advised uneconomic to repair.
So mostly just use my old Pentax K10D which has not had any problems.
I think Pentax should replace all problem K30s & K50s as show of goodwill.

My K30 seemed to be working harder than usual today when doing AF and after downloaded images to PC which went fine, it lost it's Live View and no images on LCD screen. However in movie camera setting LCD screen is fine.
Anyone with this experience? Could it just be having a rest?
Thanks for any replies.

For some reason the image I posted for the July contest has come out much darker in the forum post than in "My Pictures". Is it possible to post a brighter image to compensate for the difference? And if so how?
Thanks : Ian Mc

When I originally bought the Pentax K10D shortly after its release the software worked fine.
However subsequently moved to Photoshop Elements and deleted Pentax Software from computer.
Unfortunately when I tried to put this back in computer it would not accept as "already installed".
Went into main Pentax site and found a software update.
Installed this and now have Pentax Software back !!!
Just thought I'd post in case anyone else had this problem.

Thanks Photog & jeffkrol.
I prefer not to dabble with registry except to have regular scans with Wises Registry Cleaner
only deleting entries "Safe to Delete"
I have Photoshop Elements and Noise Ninja stand alone, along with Coded Color Photo Studio, Imagenomic Noiseware, Picasa 3, and Faststone so don't really need anything else !!!
I bought the new disc from the New Zealand Pentax distributor.

I bought my K10D back in December 2006 but although the photo browser worked the Photo Laboratory never has.
I am not very computer literate.
Anyway as I had various other imaging software I just deleted it from the Control Panel.
Thought I might have another attempt and so bought a new CD.
Used search to try to locate anything which could cause problems.
However when I tried to open programmes for Browser & Laboratory got the message Already installed.
I new it was possible that new disc would not produce results so was and am ready to cut my losses and put it down to experience but it would be interesting to see how they work.
Any advice appreciated.

Just wonder whether with Pentax alliance with Tokina whether there is anything in the wind about a 400mm lens for Pentax SLRs?
This is the minimum for wildlife photographers.

Hi Albert
I have the same lens and it is good for bird shots at the estuary.
Don't know much about prices in the US but If you got USD $100.00 I think you'd be doing quite well.
I would prefer a Tokina ATX 100-400 if they brought it out in Pentax KAF mount.

I have been keeping tabs on how many shots I get from K10D batteries.
They have averaged around 500 shots so if I shoot arond 200 in a days shoot which is most of the time then I will recharge the battery and put the previously charged one in the camera.
Nothing worse when shooting wildlife to have a battery go flat just as a great potential shot heads your way.

You might like to try Imagenomic Noiseware. There is a free community edition and although I prefer not to use an anti - noise it does sometimes gives the better result.

I have tried my Tokina 100/300 zoom with still and bird flight shots.
Although some of the flight shots were OK it was the still shots which were more consistant.
Flight shots with my Sigma 400 PKAF gave better results probably because of the predictive autofocus.
Here's a couple of shots of roses with the K10D and Tokina 100/300 manual zoom.

Thank you for all your replies.
I now understand that it something to do with sensor movement and magnetic fields.
Here is a url:» Image Stabilization on Tripods
Interesting though that roentarre has left SR on tripod shots with only the softening of pix. Most re-assuring.

Yes it is a White-fronted Tern which is endemic to NZ but flies over the ditch to see you guys on migration.
I thought picture name would come up on the post.Always more to learn.
That 50/500 Sigma sounds like a pretty wicked lens for patrolling the estuary etc but must weigh a fair bit is it a PKAF mount? How heavy?
Thanks.I'm just waiting on a Tamron 70/300 PKAF macro.

PS Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread a bit.

I leave my SR on all the time including panning bird flight shots which do not suffer any ill effects although I will switch off if putting K10D on a tripod.
Here is a recent flight shot.

Thanks Trog100 appreciate your prompt reply.
Unfortunately being rather a pedantic chap I interpret the word "caution" as "danger, danger !!!'
Apologies to Dr Who.LOL.

The owner's manual Page 68 states :Caution : Be sure to turn off the shake reduction when using the camera with a tripod.
This implies possible damage or settings adjustment if SR left on.
I can see times when SR with a tripod would be valuable like on windy days at night.
Do we know why there is a "Caution"?
Thanks:Ian Mc:confused:
