My wish is for Pentax to make a next level LX looking film camera which includes all the best features of the LX and MZ-S cameras.

I have the 3.0 version of this camera and it is a keeper. Perfect exposure every time, lens is sharp, film economy is awesome. I use it with slide film as I get more shots out of an expensive roll. Highly recommended camera.

Regrettably M-mount lenses are not a viable option for Pentax K mount as the mount register of the M mount is very short. But the Leica R lenses can be adapted to Pentax with a Leitax lens adapter/mount. For more information please refer to Leica & Pentax & Nikon | Leitax |

What is the helicoid that the lens comes with? Does it focus to infinity.

My Pentax 645 system consists of A35, FA45, A55, FA75, 6x7 105mm, A150 f/3.5 and with the exception of the 45mm all the rest are superb lenses.
I recently tested them with adapter on my Sony A7II and they are every bit as good (some times better) as the Sony FE lens line.

For short telephoto to long I would advise to get FA as it is very cumbersome to focus these lenses.
For wide to normal save money and get the A lenses.
I currently own 2x 645n bodies, 35, 45, 55, 150 in A. And also have 75mm 45-85, 80-160 in FA.

As per the quoted post in this thread here If someone is looking for the rare green coated version of this lens, I'm ready to part with mine on this forum market. The lens obviously transmits more light than the regular 43mm Limited and is very hard to find.

I had this particular lens and at f/1.4 was very sharp. Sharper that anything else at f/1.4. Actually the site you quoted confirm the same:
"Unfortunately, for a $4,000 lens, results are somewhat soft when used wide open at ƒ/1.4; however, if you look across the field of offerings produced by Canon, Nikon and Carl Zeiss, you'll note that it produces the sharpest results between them all at this aperture."
The M 50mm Summilux ASPH is still the best 50mm lens ever made. Absolute great sharpness and the best bokeh.

I would agree with Mike Johnston and say that the FA 77mm is the best AUTOFOCUS prime lens I ever tried. But the best prime lenses come from no other than Leica with it's
current range of M lenses.
But if you would to take into account a price / performance / size / weight ratio, Pentax with it's FA Limited lenses comes on top, thus my reason to switch back to Pentax from Leica M.

I was wondering if this 49-28 step down ring would not decrease the amount of light reaching the sensor.

I recently bought Yashica Electro 35 CC. It's the only compact rangefinder with built in lens of 35mm focal length. The max aperture is f/1.7. And it has Aperture priority mode too.
Love it.

I use to shoot with both lenses for a while. Took lots of photos with each of them, also did a few comparisons on my own. After spending about 1 year with both, I decided to keep the 77mm and sell the 70mm. Not that the 70 was bad, no, it's an excellent lens, but the 77mm was not just better, it has also a magic. The three FA Limiteds are the reason I'm back from Leica M after shooting with the best Leica has to offer. I'm not saying Leica lenses are not better than Pentax FA Limiteds they are technically better, and they provide their own magic as well. But the price/magic ratio is still unbeatable with Pentax FA Limiteds.

How I see it is that with lens design it's hard or close to impossible to fulfil the bellow 3 requirements:
1. Great IQ at f/1.4.
2. Compact size.
3. Affordable price.
You may have two at a time but not all three at the same time.
So far only Leica have managed to fulfil requirements 1 and 2. (Leica M 21mm, 24mm and 35mm Summilux lenses)
Also in a way the Fujifilm lens 35mm f/1.4 for X-pro1 camera managed to fulfil 1, 2 and 3, but the lens is not a full frame as with Leica M.
During my love affair with Leica M, I used to shoot with Leica M9 and a 35mm Summilux ASPH before switching back to Pentax and I'm still looking of a way to come close the IQ, FoV and DoF on a Pentax system. So I feel the same way as the OP.
Would love to have a good 28mm f/1.4 lens on Pentax crop DSLR or a 35mm f/1.4 on a full frame Pentax DSLR one sunny day.
