I recently purchased the DA 18-250 lens and immediately noticed the lens creep issue I have read about. After researching the subject I found a link on a Nikon site that suggested using "O-ring" to fix the problem on the Nikon 18-200. The idea is to place a large "O-ring" around the barrel just above the rubberized zoom adjuster. Where the zoom adjuster meets the body of the lens there is a very small gap, the idea is the "O-ring" covers that gap causing enough friction to keep the lens from creeping. After running all over town trying to find a large dia. O-ring, I finally found what I was looking for at a tractor supply store. The one that fit best was what they called a #37. It DOES THE JOB! NO more lens creep. The added friction does make adjusting the lens a bit stiff but I can deal with that. However, I do have a concern. Will the added friction have an effect on the auto focus motor? It seems to work just fine now but what will the long term effects of the added stress have on the motor??
