China Day fireworks in Hong Kong last Wednesday night, using my new(ish) K200D (1st ever SLR!!!) and kit 18-55 lens. These have had a fair bit of PP in photoshop: darkening, increasing contrast, and recovering highlights - but that's it. All in all I'm pretty happy with the way they came out. The full album is at: China Day Fireworks 2008 |

Awesome. It really could be an alien! I love its gritty texture.

That's the first tomato that's made me laugh. Perhaps I'm odd, but that gave me a great start to the day :D

Are your photos in AdobeRGB or sRGB? If I recall correctly, most programs can't show AdobeRGB photos properly.

I can see both of them fine on my Macbook Pro. Finder shows their thumbnails, and Quicklook and Preview show them fine. I didn't try iPhoto however.
My system details: Leopard 10.5.4; MBP 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM.
I also have the trial version of Aperture installed (which is probably not relevant).
The EXIF info on both files looks normal.
I would suggest that you create and log in to a new user account called 'test', to see if the problem persists across accounts.
What version of iPhoto do you have? (I'm still stuck on 6...)

This may not be the kind of kite you're looking for, but the black kite (milvus migrans) is very common in Hong Kong.
Next, let's see some stationery!

Aperture 2.1.1 is importing my K200D PEF files just fine in RAW mode (I haven't tried in RAW+ mode, though). I'm attaching the camera directly with the USB cable.
I'm on 10.5.4 (intel) - what OS are you running?
You could also download a trial of Lightroom and see if that works - if you're still getting the problem in Lightroom then at least you know that it's not Aperture's fault...

I'd expect the GX-10 to have the same problem, because isn't it basically a rebadged K10D?

When I choose to display the "Lens Model" EXIF info in Aperture the field is blank (ie, nothing there). If I use the above exiftool command then the lens model info shows up in Aperture.
e.g. Straight out of the camera:

The exiftool website is really very helpful! I've figured out that Aperture gets the lens model info from the EXIF 'Lens' tag (expecting a literal string, not a number code), but Pentax cameras don't use this field, but a custom field. I managed to use exiftool to copy the lens info over to the proper field, and Aperture now sees it. Great!
For posterity, the basic command is: Code: bash% exiftool '-LensType>Lens' imagename.PEF
This can be combined with a find command to update all raw files in the library!

You're absolutely right: exiftool shows all the lens info (and more!)
So let me ask a new question:
Why doesn't the lens info show up in Aperture? When I choose to display it it just shows up blank, but I know the info's there because I can see it through exiftool
Am I missing a setting in Aperture?

I just got my K200D a few days ago, and it doesn't record any lens info apart from the focal length and aperture (ie, no lens model!) I've tried all 3 lenses that I got with the camera, but still no luck. I've also tried different programs to view the EXIF data but still the same.
Is it just my camera, or is this normal?

G'day all - I'm an Aussie living in Hong Kong, and I just bought myself a K200D. It's my first SLR and I'm pretty excited about it all! I wish I could have got the 55-300 lens instead of the 50-200, but the price difference was extraordinary so I'll wait and see and upgrade the lens later if need be.
Happy shooting! rk
