The Sigma 15mm F2.8 fisheye is quite small and light. The sharpness and OoF blur aren't amazing, but it does what it says on the tin. It works well for landscapes, for sure, but will need a bit more time and patience for other subjects.

Pentax K-5 with Vivitar 28mm 1:2.8 MC Close Focus. Having not used this lens in a fair while, I'd forgotten just how much sharper it is than all of my zooms. Such a versatile lens on the K-5.

Okay, I've got my pick - sorry for the delay. To reiterate, this wasn't an easy choice but I'm going with this one from Bart:
It's hard to put my finger on but I find myself drawn to its casual simplicity. It doesn't just show inside, but feels it as well.
Thanks to all for your photos.

Well that was fun. I can't see myself managing to do a Single In any time soon, and I'm getting pretty familiar with my RX100. Might as well keep running through May, and I'll surely have some different scenery to shoot.

Short answer: No.
Slightly longer answer: I can't see how anyone would see your photos as overprocessed unless they had a real taste for dim, soft, low contrast images.

I'm still happy with my RX100i. It may not quite have the reach of the MX-1 ('only' 28-100 eFoV), but the sensor is bigger and has more megapickles which partly makes up for that. Used ones go for a song these days. I've had mine for a year, and whilst the RAWs obviously don't come close to the versatility of my K-5 there's still some latitude for fun PP. Worth a try at least I'd say.

I've got the TA 35-70 F3.5. Whilst it does have noticeable flaws such as a lack of edge sharpness at 35mm, and poor resistance to ambient light, when used accordingly it does give pleasant images.
So yeah, whilst I wouldn't use it as a walk-around lens, especially on APS-C, nor for shots demanding the highest quality, it can be fun to take out now and again.

#3 and #4 are the most striking to me, with #3 being more interesting as well. With both of them you could do with easing off on the sharpening just on the horizon to remove the halo. #4 has a tiny bit of a edge flicker just above the horizon at the right hand side; crop a few pixels off or clone it out as competition rules permit.
#1 doesn't stand out to be honest. Whilst it's a fair enough landscape it doesn't really evoke any feelings. Don't assume that all the other sunsets are of the sea.
#2 is definitely an interesting photo and I really like the layering of mountains in the background. The rocky outcrop that forms the focus of the image doesn't seem to pop out for some reason. I think it could do with a touch more contrast, but there are also the distracting highlights in the bottom right corner. It has all the makings of a really great photo, but needs more work than #3 and #4.
#5 doesn't have elements that draw my eye.
#6 is too soft.
They're all good photos, and I'm not trying to put you down. I'm just thinking about how pedantic the judges might be.

I was just going to say that I get the same thing and was speculating it to be just that. The rods in your eye are more sensitive to changes in light and are also more densely distributed towards the edges of the retina than the colour sensitive cones.

I've been stuck inside dealing with a cold, so decided to mess around with some old photos from last summer. Whilst I've probably over-sharpened them (or at least, not paid enough attention to where they've been sharpened) I'm fairly comfortable with the overall results. My process these days (using Darktable) is to hit the monochrome filter straight away and process for tone first of all. Once I'm okay with the tones I remove the monochrome filter and decide whether the images really need colour at all. If they do then I fiddle around a bit more.
There's not much point getting too worked up about tones and colours since I rarely print and my screen is a crappy laptop thing with no depth. |

If anyone is interested in trying it, I discovered that a build does exist. It's not the most recent version and I don't know how stable the build is in the long run, but it seems to function. Partha's Place Download link is down the left hand side.

Unfortunately DT does not do stitching, and its stacking is primitive at best. I've had to pass my images through Hugin to perform those functions.
Hopefully they'll improve the stacking function before too long. There's other OSS such as luminance-HDR that I would hope they could scavenge code from.

If you do make the plunge, do not publish anything less than the best possible photos you can shoot with it. The resale value of a unique lens such as this would surely cover the investment, but only if its public presentation is flawless.

I crop 99% of my images. The 3:2 ratio is almost never perfect for my subjects, and no matter how careful I am there's often just a few pixels at the edges that distract.
Personally, I hope Panasonic's adjustable ratio catches on more widely. I'd love to be able to frame in 1:1 straight off the bat whilst maintaining 'equivalent focal length'.
