For those that aren't aware, this month's (UK) What Digital Camera (probably the best selling photo mag' in Britain) includes a sub-£500GBP group test.
The K-r twin lens kit wins their recommendation with 5 stars out of 5. The Canon 1100D came second with 4.5/5, and the Nikon D3100 is third with 4/5.

Hi
Has anyone sent a lens (and body) to Sigma UK to be calibrated?
What was the turnaround time like and did they do a good job?
I've just received a new Sigma 30mm f/1.4 from my insurers and a focus adjustment of -10 is not enough to get it sharp.
TIA.

A hotshoe spirit level, if one isn't built into your tripod.

I'd strongly recommend taking a lot of photos, without undertaking any DIY calibration, and being *absolutely* sure your camera/lens combo has an issue, before attempting any adjustment yourself.
After 25 years' photography and nearly 20 years' on internet/usenet forums, I'm certain that a large proportion of focus problems are caused by people reading a load of crap on the net, taking a few photos of an A4 'focus chart', and then FUBARing their cameras themselves.
Just saying, like.

And I have similar doubts about most people's ability to 'calibrate' their lenses.
The term seems interchangeable with 'bollocks up my camera', IMHO.

Are you sure you're not ballsing the whole thing up in the first place by 'recalibrating' your lenses.
Seems like a huge opportunity to bias your tests to me. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and all that.

Having taken a few dozen test shots around the house in dim light with my Sigma 30mm at f/1.4, I have to say I'm *very* pleased with Firmware V1.03.

How on Earth does this thread qualify as either news or rumour?
This site needs a dedicated 'FF Whinging' forum. These repeated and endless wishful thinking threads make this site, as a whole, devalued.

Agreed, with regards Canon. The K-5 is more akin to the 7D than the 60D, and compares very favourably on price and spec'.
Us Brits have paid through the nose for a long time on all photographic gear compared to CONUS, and it's very welcome to see a more reasonable price over here.
I've just told my wife what I want for Christmas. : o )
P.s. *Who* exactly would buy a 60D? Possibly Canon's most misguided release, ever.

Eh?
£1199 list price, inc' 18-55wr seems reasonable, and it's likely to be below £1k within 6 months.
The possible price was my main issue, but I'm now very interested.

Try using Windows Explorer/Linux Equivalent to drag and drop the files from the SD card/camera to your computer; don't use an auto-downloading programme.
