Are you talking about AF w/ center-focus only, or AF with all 11 points? On my k200d, I use center-focus with the center sensor only and recompose. I don't have any issues with low-light. I cannot imagine that the cross-type sensor that Pentax has is that different from D300's or D700's. Those got more focus points, but the sensitivity of each one should be comparable to the cross-type sensors in Pentax's.
Are you sure you cannot just focus and recompose w/ the center sensor to solve the perceived problem?

Used to own a *ist DL. I got so many punchy pics out of it before I sold it to upgrade to something more modern, meaning having dust-proof, sensor-cleaning, shake-reduction capabilities. I was willing to forgo SR. But I looked and looked. Canon has smooth IQs, but lacks punchiness and saturation. Nikon is nice, but the features on the entry-level models are paltry. D300 is out of my reach in price, and so heavy. So, I decided to continue with the Pentax brand, and got a K200d. 3000 images later, I am happy. The IQ is excellent. The fa 50mm f/1.4 lets me shoot anywhere without flash.
Oh, I want to add that Pentax DSLRs (K200d & k20d) just feel so much more solid when compared to Sony, Canon. I feel I can afford to man-handle it.

I have always shot JPEGs with my K200d. Today, I tried a raw+ capture indoor with my family, and it appears that the raw file has much better texture and correct exposure than the jpeg. Could be luck of the draw. But I think I am gonna shoot raw files from now on.
What program do you guys recommend to batch-convert raw to JPEG w/ a fixed setting that guarantees better quality than in-camera jpeg? I really don't want to tweak conversion settings on an image by image basis. Of course, a free program would be the best. :)
Thanks!
