It's got the Heliar. Would've been a miracle to get the Apo-Lanthar, but for $25, I can't complain. From my research, it appears that the two are very close in performance anyways - the desirability of the A-L probably has more to do with it's rarity. I actually passed this one over, when I first looked at it, then drove three hours home, went on the net, and found out what an idiot I was for not buying it. Drove three hours back to get it, the next day, and then home again. Did the same thing with the Pentax S. Didn't know what it was, left it at the thrift store (it was Saturday at 5 p.m.), drove an hour home and went back Monday at 8:45. For the Rollei 35, I stood in line for a couple of hours to get it - I'd seen it in the window, and they were putting it up for sale on Saturday. People had to queue up to get in. I figured it was worth it, for $14.

If I can get some film, and figure out a cost-effective way to develop and print it (they want $4 per shot at the only place I found), I'd love to do some urban landscape stuff with it. 6x9 looks to be an excellent format for that kind of thing.

What about the Auto 110? Do they even sell film for it anymore? How about developing and printing?

Thanks. Unfortunately, many of these will be merely on display - once I find a suitable display case - because getting film for them, and finding somewhere to develop the film, is difficult or impossible where I live. It's getting pretty difficult to even get anything other than 35mm now, let alone find a place that develops it. Sad, when you consider the capabilities of some of these cameras. The Bessa II is supposed to be one of the best vintage MFs ever built. Same with the Autocord. I'd love to do some stereo photography - but how do I get it developed? Unless I'm able to find space for a darkroom (and learn how to use it), the cost of film and developing is nearly prohibitive. I'd love to do some stereo photography and try out the half-frame Tessina L - but how do I get it developed?

I've been building a collection for the past few years - exclusively from either thrift stores, or garage sale finds.

The best one I think, so far, was a Voigtlander Bessa II for $25, but the Rollei 35's probably a close second.

Asahi Pentax S - $40
Pentax Auto 110 with two lenses - $40
Voiglander Bessa II - $25
Rollei 35 - $14
Tessina L with daytime film loader - $50
Minolta Autocord LMX - free
Exakta VX II - $15
Zorki 4 - $25
Zeiss Contaflex with three lenses - free
Olympus XAs (XA, XA4 Macro, XA2, XA2) - XA4 was $8, XA was one dollar, XA2s (with flashes) were around $5
Kodak Stereo - $20
Kodak Retina IIS - $15
Kodak Vest Pocket - can't remember
Kodak Panoram
Mamiya Magazine 35 - $20
Voigtlander Bessa 46 - $10

The whole works, for less than $300. I've also managed to score a pretty impressive collection of watches, from the same places. A few Rolexes, a couple Omegas, a couple vintage Chronographs. Of course, this took a lot of looking, with "finds" like this only coming up once in a while. But worth it. Definitely an addiction.

Which bodies do YOU own? And still use?

I read that too. Also read that the total production of the original AP series (AP, S & K) were less than the Nikon SP. Early Pentaxes aren't as rabidly collected as are Nikons or early Canons, from what I gather. If the S was one of those, it'd be worth a mint.

Forgot to add a Mamiya Magazine 35, another oddity, and a Voigtlander Bessa 46 to my list......

Hello all. I just found this site, and my interest was piqued by the posts on the Pentax S that a couple of you have. I just picked one up from a thrift store, with the 55mm 2.2 lens - in nearly perfect condition. Does anyone know how many of these are around now? I've read on several sites that these were uncommon to rare to begin with - how desirable are they?

My cameras:

Asahi Pentax S
Pentax Auto 110
Voiglander Bessa II
Rollei 35
Tessina L
Minolta Autocord LMX
Exakta VX II
Zorki 4
Zeiss Contaflex
Olympus XAs (XA, XA4 Macro, XA2, XA2)
Kodak Stereo
Kodak Retina IIS
Kodak Vest Pocket
Kodak Panoram

Which ones do I use?
The Rollei 35, XAs, and I've used the Zorki & Exakta. The S only came to me this week, along with the Tessina L.
