K-5 vs K-50

I think OOC HDR is also alot better in the K-50, but i hardly ever used it. I would choose the K-5 because you don't have to worry about any hardware failures and it feels really really good. Its still capable yet it does not do everything for you. It has limitations like if the light is bad so you have to work around them and grow. Fow low light get a flash with extra focus assis light and it will work just fine. Graet cam to grow on. I noticed how i got worse with the K-3ii coz it was relative care free in low light so newer isnt always better :o

K-3 III low light AF performance

With how long i mean how much can the light drop befor the AF starts to struggle.
I'm not hiking with it but i used to (before the pandemic hit) take pictures at festivities (think of it as a small Oktoberfest that every small town/village celebrates here) and found that with 1/15 the motion blur is not to bad yet and i still can manage to hold steady enough for the SR to work just fine. The longest lense i use is 70mm but most likely it would be 30 or 50mm. If i did that with a 500mm lense I would soon become one machine of a man

The light there was awefull looking but it is what it is.

K-3 III low light AF performance

Can on of the lucky few tell me how good the AF is performing in low light? The K-3 was a huge step up from the K-5 and I' really curious how the new GBA trigger (gear buy addiction trigger aka K-3 III ;) ) works in dim light. I also wonder if all the high ISO performence can be salvaged in a barly bright enough for the human eye luminated festival tent and if all the fancy AF modes are useable under these conditions or if i would need to go back to focus first and compose the shot later? Of course if it even ever happens again that huge crowds find them self packet in a tent to celebrate :asleep: . Questions upon questions :D

How long would the K-3 III allow me lets say 1/15 sec shutterspeed?

I am thinking about getting into video and i would not want to buy all the lenses again and add another system. GBA for one is bad enough but for two systems? I got two kidneys but i dont want to spend them on gear

Well if i ever manage to keep any of the little money i make
Thinking about it that this is a topic where a mirrorless camera shines. My butchered K-50 only works right in live view, the failed apperature block would only leave me the manual mode otherwise. we successfully screwed up the focus so it won't get anywhere close to infinity and yet it is so fascinating to look at these pictures and realise that we don't even know how the stuff, we look at everyday, really looks like! Its a little of frightening too
I'd say there is more to be gained here then with the new K-3III.

350€ is alot, does the Viewfinder AF still work after? Imagen a full specturm pentax with infinity focus and a fully operational AF... especially in spring and summer! But honestly 2 facinating new toys at once? convert the K-3 II play with it all summer and when the green is all burned out get the K-3 III

Mine got 80k+ and still going strong only issue is the shutter release is kinda mushy and the on/off switch needs way more force then it should. I still pick it over my K3 when possible since the metering is much better. If I had this thing 10 years ago i would have feeled like the king of the world! Would love to get my hands on a K-5iis.

Taken last night, weather was great focusing took a while because the markings on my lens are useless. Guess its a love hate relationship with this lens. The focus needs to adjusted -10, the markings as mentioned are useless (gonna fix that) but the AF is quick, i get a whole lot on frame if i want to, its fast, resonable sharp and i can go up close and which might anoy people  well seeing all this i guess its more love then hate and it is one of my go to lenses for waking up all dogs in the neighborhood :o

I would say you should try and spend some time getting to know your camera better, it can and will provide good pictures if you know how but taking a picture is no rocket sience!

I would use Av as long as there is light, I would switch to M in the dark night tho. Then I would select F 2.8 and crank up the ISO untill i feel comfortable holding the camera still. Thanks to SR I'd say 1/10 sek for non moving subjects. If ISO exceeds 1600-2000 (sometimes i care more sometimes i care less) i would start underexposing to get that 1/10th of a sek. If you try to take a shot from sunset or dark lit landskape with sky in the background then try HDR.

Btw. it would help if you could give us more detail or a picture to visualize your problem! ;)

SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 : got it from the fleamarket with a dead Pentax MV, the coating is gone,
SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.7 :
SMC Pentax-F 50mm F1.4 : <3 role taken by the DA 70

SMC Pentax-F 35-80mm F4-5.6
SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II : for lots of rain,
HD Pentax-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited : - <3 +/-0 my only AF prime lense without need for AF correction, never really bothered to check the zoom lenses

Sigma 15mm f/2.8 ex DC Fisheye : <3 -10 AF correction
Sigma 24mm f/2.8 Super Wide II : prob. my sharpest lens, great sharpness, great colors (if you like them)
Sigma 24mm F2.8 AF Super Wide II : -5 AF correction, old and beaten optically far behind the other one
Sigma 28mm F1.8 "HIGH-SPEED WIDE" Aspherical II : +5 AF correction, new in my collection, not bad unless the sun shows up
Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC : <3 my workhorse +5 AF correction, this thing was an eye opener into the world of primes!

Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 SP AF XR LD Aspherical IF Di II : if i find my self in need for a zoom

Tokina AT-X SD 80-200mm f2.8 : 2x coz i wanted that tripodmount and was courious how they may differ unfortunatly the later one is foggy and not exactly the same so taking it appart was no option. they both collect dust right now :(

[/B]Sigma AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 DL Macro[/B] (R.I.P :( )

Next addition might be a FA 35 2.0 coz F 2 is fast enought but the AF might be better maybe??? An 70-200 F 2.8 would be noice but €€€ and no real need yet. other then that no LBA right now :D

Misc what a broken k 50 is good for

Honestly I felt a little bad about doing this to a camera that has served me well. But since I didn't use it any more (no need to carry K 3, K 5 AND a K 50) i did it.

The sensor itself is not only sensitive to visible light but also IR light. In the picture i am holding the filter, that i removed, in front of the lense. It will screw your auto WB and depending on your skill also the autofocus and the infinity focus but you also get double the light and you can see cool stuff. And you can use these fancy IR filters without bothering to bring a tripod ;)

In case you got a K 50 with K 50 issue and you don't use it anymore, just get rid of that IR Filter on the Sensor and have fun doing cool stuff. Guess i gotta get me more of these! I'm also happy my 35-80mm lense finally got used as its my only zoom lense with 49mm filter and one of the few lenses i got with 49mm AND an aperture ring. Also since i can't use the Viewfinder anyways, as my eyes lack active IR  , i have to use live view where the focus works (we did screw up the viewfinder AF  ). We also screwed the infinity focus but somehow the filter does help with that issue too.

Also I used a 720Nm-China-buy-cheap-wait-forever-and-buy-twice-filter. I intended a 52mm filter but thankfully got a 49mm. I would have loved to use it on my Sigma Super Wide II but this time i am quite happy to use a zoom lense since i cant swap camera and even if i would be to lazy to screw that filter off and on and so on... only real downside is that i only have on battery atm and liveview drains alott power!

K 50 FTW!!!

A rainy night in early spring Taipei, I was still jetlaged and spend all day in bed. When I got up it was already getting dark and it started raining BUT I don't own a weather sealed camera for nothing... not that I pair it with an actual WR lens all that often tho haha :o  Unfortunately there was not much rain for the rest of my trip, next time i keep the weather in mind!

I almost convinced a friend of mind to come to the bright side of live but since he already had some Canon gear he took the 80D instead of the K-3II :( Its a good cam all around but it doesnt feel right, you know but its really hard to improve om a K-5

I'd rather have a KF since I don't like the grey on black of the FA lenses but love the red on black of the F series  also 3 letters seem a bit long if you combine it with a number... how ever they will call it, sooner or later I will call it mine  :D

I really like that idea! But the K-3II is far from retirement and the K-5 works really well in this setup but I think there is still a lot life left in the shutter after ~70k shots taken :)

Yeah plus its a Pentax and i think a theft without much knowledge might not care to much about it coz all they know is Canikony but who knows i got lucky so far :D

My K-5 in its party dress. I dropped the flash once and now the battery door wont stay shut. The lenshood needs some added meat for the lenshood as the thread is worn out, thats why the tape is there. The duct tape on the body does not serve any serious purpose. Now I wonder what you say about this atrocity. :o

Well you don't buy a tank to drive it up and down your yard right?
