This Pentex K-30 belongs to my nephew, in auto focus the pictures are showing up really dark in all other settings as well. He said he changed camera back to factory settings, but did not clear problem. Hope I am explaining this well. Anyway would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

I know that I am to get rid of this post or do something once my problem has been solved, could you help me with this, and thanks again, I was really worried that something major was wrong with the camera.

I went into Sensor Cleaner in menu and there was Mirror up and Cancel I tried on both modes but grinder sound still there.

I did solve the problem of downloading my pictures, I concluded that the cord was not inserted properly. As far as the grinding noise when I turn on my camera I have no idea what is causing that, I gave my camera a good cleaning hoping that would help but sound is still there when I first turn on the camera. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thank you for reply, did solve the downloading problem, cord was not inserted all the way. I am more concerned about the grinding sound when I first turn on my camera, do you have any thoughts about what could be causing this to happen?

Problem with my K-50 when I turn I get a grinding noise and it will not connect to my computer to download pictures, any help would be appreciated.

It worked, camera is working again. thank you so much for your help. Is this something that can happen periodically. I know that I never thought of cleaning the battery contacts but now will include with cleaning routine.
In answer to leekil, chipmunk is not a pet but a daily visitor to the back yard.

I have a K-50 purchased in December 2015, just finished using this afternoon, uploaded my pictures to my computer, disconnected from computer, pictures are awesome, tried to use about 20 min. later and there is no juice in the camera, changed to a new battery but still when I turn it on absolutely nothing happens. Am including one of the pictures just taken about 1 hour ago. All help would be appreciated.

No the lens is not fine when dismounted. Tried wiggling the focus ring but nothing moves. I have the DA version.

Thanks so much for prompt reply I have cleaned contacts but still nothing, what I mean by locked is when I hold the lens in my hand I am unable to move it at all its like its locked or frozen. Could I have touched something that would prevent it from moving? really baffled this lens was purchased new at the end of November so pretty new, still under warranty so guess that would be my next move. I have a number 1-800-461-6203. it is for service related questions , would you suggest I call? I would return to place of purchase but it was bought in Alberta when I was on holidays and I am in Ontario. Thanks in advance for advice.

Des the answers to your questions... when lens is off camera zoom ring does not turn nor the focus ring
I moved the spring loaded lever and the aperture blades open and close
Cleaned the contacts, camera and lens
Takes a picture in MF but not in aperture priority
Tried other lens and working fine
dcshooter to answer your question cannot manually turn focus and zoom ring when lens is not attached to the camera.

55-300 F4-5.8 lense working fine yesterday but went to use today and it is locked it is on my K-50 and doesn't seem to be making contact, switched to another lense and it is working fine, any suggestions.

Hi Dan, Espanola here....The K-50 does have the bigger, brighter viewfinder and so user friendly. The lenses I have. found out that they will not work on my K-50 so am now looking to buy a telephoto lens...do you deal at Henry's or can you recommend a place to purchase equipment for the K-50.

Just purchased a K-50 and so far am loving it. I have been shooting with a Canon T3 but needed a second camera and decided on a Pentax because I had several lenses from an old 35 mm film Pentax and was hoping to use on the K-50. Have been looking through this forum and looks like a great place for friendly helpful advice. Look forward to being a part of your community.:)
