Congratulations on this work! Since the sensor floats for the shake reduction, there's not an easy way to add a cold-finger for astrophotography work.
Regarding the filters, I would suggest looking at the IDAS HEUIB-II filter for modified cameras. It does not work directly on the sensor because of reflections within the filter, but it works very well on the end of the lens.
Another filter that works well for full spectrum cameras is the B+W 486. It allows the Ha wavelength through (without NIR) and has a hard cutoff above 400 nm, helping to reduce purple halos around stars.
I've used the 67 medium format lenses with the kmount converter and played with filters within that assembly (I think a 52mm filter screws into threads inside). This allows experimentation with different filters and the impact on infinity focus.

I piled on in mid-september and sent my K-1 in to Precision. It's also still waiting for parts. I'm hoping to get the upgrade back by mid-November.
In the meantime, I'm using my K5IIs and getting through the backlog of photos from the summer.

Good to see results of someone swapping this screen on the K-1. I have one of these kits sitting on my desk.
Any thoughts about the warnings of the display overlay being sensitive?

I agree on this solution. I had a friend make two of these for me several years ago and they are still working perfectly when I do long exposure work.

I gave up on the plastic spools and went to metal.
The plastic are fun at first, but soon get gummed up with emulsion.
Since I have started doing C41 and E6, I'm glad for switching to metal as I understand the plastic will stain.

I've used the 35mm macro on a crop-sensor to digitize and I liked using it. I stopped down to f8 and no issues with film curl once I used the Lomography Digiliza device to hold the negs.
I found more of an issue with off-axis light causing reflections from the surface of the film and making it difficult to focus, so I used an old metal dryer tube coated with flocking paper to control this issue.
I still use this method to "scan" loose negs that don't fit holders (126, 110, etc).

I've been able to fix much of my own issues with Silverfast by:
1. Dumping the preferences periodically - especially so when changing the film size or after an update.
2. Restarting the machine instead of letting it go to sleep. I'm running 32GB of RAM and SF would eventually (after a few weeks) start acting poorly and crash. A restart fixed it.

And you can shoot Acros with the Wratten 29 filter for a whopping -8 stops.

I think I'll get a roll of the stuff and play with it. The idea of shooting super-slow daytime shots without requiring a ND filter seems interesting to me.
I don't have my LX with me at the moment, I think the internal light meter can be set to ISO 6.
I'll have to check my Gossen lightmeter to see if I can use the native 1.6.

I have used it with a flatbed scanner and it worked well, once I shimmed it with some post-it notes to better grab film that wanted to curl up. This became less of an issue once I started developing my own film and could properly flatten it.
Where it really excelled was when I was using it with a lightbox and taking digital shots with a macro lens. It held the negative and allowed fast repositioning of the film strip.
As you can see, there are openings that allow you to feed uncut film through the device.

The working distance for any reversed lens will be the flange distance. Thus, 46 mm for Pentax.

What was the bit range of the original tiff scans (not the drum scans). Were they 8-bit and then saved to 16 bit files? That would explain the over contrast look compared to the drum scans.

Here is a 6 minute K-1 video that's unedited. Shot last summer with a craptacular film-era Tamron 28 to 210 zoom. Dropbox - IMGP1532.MOV |

I have both the K1 and several 67 bodies and lenses.
What I've enjoyed about the 67 is the patience it requires for shooting. You slow down, consider each shot.
What I enjoy about the K1 is the reflex-like ability to shoot with impunity.
Both have their drawbacks.
The film is the limitation of the scan size. If I shoot a high-ISO film, the detail available in the K1 will outshine the film. The reverse is true for a nice slow ISO film - digital tends to break down into posterization of discrete colors while film renders the transition from sharp to soft much smoother.
I process my own film and scan it, so that removes the hurdle of going through a third party for developing. However, this puts the hurdle squarely in my own path, meaning that I must ensure that I have the chemicals, time to do the processing, and getting good scans.

A nice benefit of actually following people on flickr is that they're starting to offer suggestions. I've found some really nice work this way. Some are inspiring, others are simply neat. It's changed my opinion about clicking the follow button - now I do it more often.

I've used them for several rolls. I like their flexibility with push and pull. Prices are good.
The scans are nice - they've been able to get useful data from underexposed negs - better than I have.

I received a response from Sigma:
To me, this means that no new Sigma design lenses will support K mount. Seems a bit restrictive, but I can appreciate the business choice.
