Item for Sale
PENTAX Pentax DA Limited 70mm F/2.4 HD Lens

Asking Price
$300.00 USD

Item Location
Pittsburgh, PA (United States)

Item Description
For sale is a near mint condition DA 70mm f/2.4 HD Limited Lens. The Limited series of lenses from Pentax are legendary and for good reason. Small size, fast autofocus, big apertures, and really well made. This lens is no exception. This was one of my most used lenses for Pentax and one of my last to be sold off as I switch camera systems. REALLY hate to let this go as it is a killer lens for street photography and portraits. I really cannot find any flaws with this lens but since I have used it so much, it might have a little normal wear I don't notice right away. This lens has a 9.57 rating on Pentax Forums which speaks again to the quality of this lens and the images it produces.

Lens comes with original box, leather lens bag, lens hood, lens caps, and a B+W UV filter for protecting the lens. This filter is super high quality, made in Germany, and has been on the lens since I bought it. Easily a $30 add on.

Will only ship to continental USA. Shipped via FedEx. Paypal payments only.

Clarification from the PentaxForums on this lens...

AF compatibility:

The lens must be F4 or faster. Slower lenses can be used, but phase detect autofocus may be unreliable and contrast detect AF (live view) is recommended instead. Curiously, the smc Pentax-DA 17-70mm F4 may not acquire focus in contrast detect mode (live view), here phase detect (viewfinder) should be used.

Cameras and lenses supported:

Pentax K-3, K-50, K-500, K-30, K-5 II, K-5 II s, K-5, K-01, K-7, K-r (all after firmware update), and newer models.

All Pentax lenses in production as of March 2014 can be used except for the following, where damage to lens or converter will occur:
• smc Pentax-DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited
• HD Pentax-DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited
• smc Pentax-DA 21mm F3.2 AL Limited
• HD Pentax-DA 21mm F3.2 AL Limited
• smc Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS

Not sure about improvements...I guess it depends on how you define improvement. But this teleconverter won't work with the Tamron. I honestly don't know about the Pentax 80-200. But generally speaking, the lens focal length is extended by 1.4x and you lose a stop of light as well.

Item for Sale
Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX for Pentax

Asking Price
$950.00 USD

Item Location
Pittsburgh, PA (United States)

Item Description
For sale is this like new Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX Lens. This autofocus lens has AMAZING reach on an APS-C sensor camera like the Pentax K-3. It is also full frame compatible with the Pentax K-1! This lens is legendary in its image quality, range, and build quality. It took me nearly 4 years of searching to find this lens in the USA and the condition is fantastic. Great lens for birding, sports, or other scenarios where you need more reach but at an affordable price. Pentax Forums gives this lens a rating of 9.6 which is one of the highest ratings of any lens for Pentax.

This is an incredibly hard lens to find these days and I am sad to part with it. The only reason I am getting rid of this lens is because I am changing camera systems so I no longer have a use for it. But this lens is one of the reasons I have been slow to switch from Pentax and sell off the gear...it is that good and hard to find!

The lens does not come with the original box. Lens hood, front and back caps, and tripod collar are included. I am also throwing in a Sigma carrying bag that this lens fits into perfectly which is like a $40 value.

Will only ship to the continental USA. Ships via FedEx. Paypal only accepted.

Item for Sale
Pentax 1.4x HD DA AW Teleconverter

Asking Price
400.00 USD

Item Location
Pittsburgh, PA (United States)

Item Description
The 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter AW from Ricoh is compatible with Pentax KAF2 mount lenses on select DSLR cameras. It mounts between the camera body and lens, and increases the focal length of the lens by 1.4x, while reducing the aperture by 1 f/stop. The minimum focus distance of the lens is preserved, as are auto focus and auto aperture functionality. The rear converter works flawlessly with both the camera-driven AF system and the lens-driven AF system, including that of the SDM and DC-series lenses.
I have used this teleconverter primarily on the DA* 50-140mm, DA* 60-250mm, and DA 70mm Limited with stellar results. The image quality is really not diminished in the slightest. Only selling because I am selling off my Pentax gear.

Comes with original box, leather lens bag, and lens covers.

Will only ship to continental USA. Shipped via FedEx. Paypal payments only accepted.

Just Bought a Fuji X-T1 and 27mm 2.8 pancake lens to go with my K-3

Yeah I have considered the 55-200 and have read it is a pretty awesome lens. I guess I am just a little spoiled with constant aperture though and also having the flexibility that f/2.8 provides. Hard to find the 50-140 used though as it is apparently a stellar lens. Hoping there is a sale sometime soon as I have seen it for $200-300 less than current price when it is on sale.

Food for thought...I don't use a wide angle lens that often. So the 18-55 "kit lens" is usually wide enough. And it is a killer lens. But I have considered the Rokinon 12mm as a wider option as it is rather cheap, apparently good build, and for a wide angle, autofocus might be less of a need especially with focus peeking available in the Fujifilm cameras as well.

I totally agree about the accuracy of AWB as well. It is AWESOME. I think exposure metering is better too.

I also hardly ever shoot raw which makes me love the jpgs right out of the Fuji as well. Love the film simulations as well. The ability to bracket the filters in a single shot is pretty convenient too.

I have started investing pretty heavily into Fujifilm after having been a Pentax user for years. I still own and use both, but my Pentax K-3 sees a LOT less use these days. I still have it because this summer I hope to use the Sigma 100-300 f/4 some. I also LOVE the DA* 50-135 and don't have any long lenses for my Fuji system yet. Longest lens I have is the 56mm for Fuji. But I did just shoot several events with just Fuji gear and other than not having a fast long zoom lens, I loved the light weight setup, EVF, and image quality. Some of my Pentax gear has already been sold off and some has broke (SDM failures), so if I stick with Pentax I need to replace some lenses (in particular my 16-50). But there seems like a much greater likelihood that I will purchase the Fuji 50-140 and if I love it as much as my 50-135, the Pentax sell off might happen soon. I honestly have been pretty tempted to also get a Nikon D750 ff camera If I run two systems...can get a factory refurbished body or lightly used for $1200-1400 these days and a million used Nikon lenses or Sigma third party lens options. If Pentax came out with a killer mirrorless APC or FF camera, it would be darn tempting to stay and slap the DA 40 or DA 70 on it.

Current Pentax gear - K-3 (had 2 bodies and now just one), 50-135, FA 50mm macro, DA 40mm, DA 70mm (love this lens too!), Sigma 100-300.

Current Fujiflm gear - X-E2, X-T10 (will be selling soon), X-T1, X-T20 (just got it), 27mm, 35mm 1.4, 35mm f/2, 56mm, 18-55mm

Latest Pentax Rumors

Interesting thoughts shared and I am glad to see it created some conversation.

While Nikon might not be a good example or model of success (they have been hemorrhaging money afterall), they are able to make a 4 tier system of FF cameras work rather successfully. So why is it absurd to consider the possibility of a lower end K-1 or something above it? Nikon currently has a D610, D750, D810 and D5. The K-1 has been compared to the D810 in that lineup. to me there seems to be a lot of bells and whistles in the K-1 that many will never need, use or want making it possible to add another camera in the lineup with minimal cost to create it.

I hear the comment a lot on here "well then why don't you just go buy Canikon"...because I have been using Pentax for years now, like the interface, love the lenses (when SDM is not failing), and like many of the features. Why is it crazy to want a camera on par with other brands but with the pluses of Pentax?

Of course the one thing that is particularly lacking in Pentax IMO is a quality repair service in the USA. As SDM has failed in 2 of my DA* lenses now and has me nervous about the third, and with limited options in 3rd party lenses currently to replace them, it leaves with few options other than sending to Japan for repair. It does provide hesitation in investing $1800 into a FF camera as well as $1200-2000 per lens.

Latest Pentax Rumors

I feel like I don't see any good rumors on here anymore of upcoming gear from Pentax. So in light of the big announcements coming out of Canon today...I thought I'd throw out some predictions and questions to the group....

Predictions (ie my wish list)
FF Stripped down K-1 - $1100 - Remove the flippy screen, remove wifi, remove 4k video, and give me a less expensive FF camera. Kind of the Nikon D810 vs D610 roadmap. Making this mirrorless would leap frog them past Fuji too!

Super APS-C camera - $1,800 - now that Pentax is gaining the attention of serious professionals again (are they?), maybe a competitive sports camera that is smaller, lighter, cheaper and better weather sealed than other options on the market but with a huge buffer and frame rate would be interesting.

Mirrorless APS-C camera - $1,100 - Something along the lines of the Sony A6000 with better lenses and a viewfinder. Slap the bodycap 40mm XS on it and you have a Ricoh GR with flexibility and a viewfinder.

FF Lenses - I suspect Pentax will be releasing a slew of new FF lenses in the next year. Tons of primes especially. Maybe dusting off some legendary old glass with new nanocoatings and better, quieter AF motors. Some new lenses that are not as expensive as the FF options with revised SDM for APS-C would be nice too (ie a replacement for the awesome DA* 50-135 especially since you can't get the Sigma 50-150 anymore).

Questions:
Will Sigma ever return to making K mount lenses again?

Is the Pentax Q series dead? Upgrades coming? Something new in this lineup?

Will Pentax ever embrace the vintage history of the K1000 and retro styling that has made Fuji and Olympus popular?

What could Ricoh do to create a wow factor in the market to end run Canikon? I think the Theta is one example of finding these niches and capitalizing on future trends.

What do you want to see from Ricoh in the next year or two?

I wish I had the money to get this lens! Had one back when I had a K-20 (years and years ago) and loved the focal length just not the f/4 while not having higher ISO capability. Now with high ISO being useable and a Pentax FF now available, really would love this lens over the 60-250 that I ended up getting years ago.

Yeah I haven't written off the 27 and many consider it to one of the best Fuji lenses for sharpness and overall quality use. And the X-E2 with the pancake is a crazy small setup with a fast lens and big sensor! I just have not been out with 2 camera bodies with Fuji yet where I would put the 27 on one and a longer lens on another...and to me, 27 and 35 are so close in focal length that a few steps and it is the same. I am seriously considering picking up a 35mm f/2 because I have read a ton of reviews and videos about people saying how much faster and quieter it is along with sharper and smaller. That f/1.4 is nice to have though but in most cases, the f/2 would be more than enough shallow dof. Plus the f/2 is weather sealed. The 56 is high on my list right now and would love the 50-140 also as I LOVE my DA* 50-135. A X-T1 is likely in my future too if I continue on the Fuji pathway for the more robust body, opportunity for a vertical grip, speed, weather sealing, etc.

This was one of the first street shots I took with the X-E2 and 35 f/1.4 and right out of the camera I was like...wow...those skin tones and incredible sharpness and accuracy (EVF certainly helps with nailing the settings).

I recently picked up a Fujifilm X-E2 and X-T10. LOVING the X-T10. I have the 27mm pancake but haven't used it much because I have been addicted to the quality of the 35mm f/1.4. I shot a couple of student competitions with my K-3 and several different lenses (mostly DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135) and had more keepers and images that I said WOW about from the Fuji. Seriously considering selling off all of my Pentax gear and going all in with Fuji!
