My Sigma 70-200 HSM died. Sigma does not have parts. It is not autofocusing anymore. Is it possible to convert to screwdrive? Thanks.

I never could use the monopod for mounting camera that well. I use it for mounting flash on hiking trips. I screw an Impact three flash mount on the monopod. Still looking for a comfortable and small hand grip for the monopod with screw threads.

Rear Curtain Sync Off Camera

Hello Sandilands

I have good news to report with the cactus v6 triggers. It has a feature called delay timer. It does a fancy type of rear curtain sync. I bought 3 v6 triggers. I mounted one on my K-5 hotshoe and set it as TX. Then I mounted a Pentax 540 fgz flash on another v6, and the Metz 58 af-2 flash on another v6. Now is the interesting part. You only have to set the delay timer on the v6 TX. Do not need to mess with the RX v6 triggers. After setting a delay time, I press the shutter, and BOTH Pentax 540 and the Metz fired with the rear-curtain. I was really impressed! The delay timer is not quite on-the-fly, but good enough for me, at least for now.

There is a bit of calculation you have to do for the delay times. If I set the shutter at 1 sec, and the delay time at 999 millisec (I second is 1000 millisecond), the v6 TX will send out instruction to fire at the last millisecond. To calculate what the other delay times should be, you need to divide 1000 with the shutter time. For example, 1/90 second shutter is 1000/90 = 11 ms, so I set the delay time at 10 ms. Say you want to shoot at 1/20 sec, set the delay timer at 49 ms. I made a little table for convenience.

I think I am going to sell my Aokatec trigger set, I never used the P-TTL even once since I got these triggers. I imagine the v6 triggers will do it for me :-)

Hello Naas and everybody else

After reading your post on Metz 58 Af-2, I recently bought one to use with my K-5. If I mount it directly on the camera hotshoe, the Metz works in manual and rear curtain without a pre-flash. I wish to be able to use it wirelessly with radio triggers. Nass, your plan appears to be IR triggered. Am I right?

In any case, I was not able to figure out how to set the Metz to be a commander and in Manual mode. I did not find that instruction in the printed manual book. How do you do it, Nass?

Ideally, I wish to be able to radio trigger the Metz and Pentax 540 fgz flashes in manual second curtain. Is this possible? Thank you for your help.

I am getting cactus v6s soon. I use Aokatec triggers right now, also in manual mode.

You are right. But you must have the discipline. It did happen to my dad's camera. He was in his 70s then. He forgot about the silica gel pouch, and did not use his camera during the wet season.

Keeping a pack of silica gel in the camera bag can be a pretty dangerous idea. The silica gel can soak up moisture, and keep it. Which helps molds grow inside your lens. If you are concerned about moisture, I have been told that it is much better to individually wrap a lens with newspaper.

I needed a camera bag that can hold some extra stuff and could be shoved in airline overhead compartments without struggle. It was not easy ;) Most camera bags are for camera, and nothing else. The extra space is too tiny to be practical. I was looking for a bag that would hold two lenses (Sigma 17-70 and Sigma 70-200), one camera body, and the flash.

Finally, I settled for the Lowepro Fastpack 250. Check out their video review here.

What it holds:
Bottom (camera) part:
Middle: Pentax 200D with battery pack and Wimberley camera plate, mounted with Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens. It is tight. But I liked tight, it will not move around during transport.
Left: 540AF flash.
Right: Sigma 17-70 lens, and Eneloop battery charger and a filter box.
Zippered pocket in the camera flap: lens cleaning pouches etc.

Top part:
Everything else I want to carry. Battery pack for the laptop.
Zippered flap: Boarding passes etc.

Behind:
A zippered 15.4" laptop sleeve, nice :)

PRO: Layout, decent sized top compartment.
CON: zippers of questionable quality. 1 year warranty, which, according to our local camera store, does not cover any damages from normal use.

Any arcaswiss plate for K200D battery grip??

They did not have a matching camera plate. They sold me a 4 in lens plate (Acratech catalog no. 2131). One edge of the elevated end of this plate can hold the grip fairly securely. Its not the best fit, but does the job. I will keep looking for something better, and if I do find a suitable camera plate, this will revert to a lens plate. Not a losing proposition.

I imagine you found something by now :D. After all, it has been more than one year. I have been searching for this as well. According to Scott of Acratech, the choice would be their generic QR plate 2128 and their universal L plate extended version.

Having accumulated more photographic equipment than ever thought I would :D, I now want to take them along in our trips. Several people have told me that I should get travel insurance and some kind of customs declaration from the US govt, but I could not get specific information. Do you get such insurance in your trips? Thanks for your response and sorry if this has been discussed before

For me, horizontal Light from the right suggests morning and from the left suggests evening. Perhaps it has to do with the orientation of maps.
