Disassamble Auto Takumar?

I recently repaired an Auto-Takumar 35mm f3.5, but I don't know if your lens is anything like mine. A thread about it on mflenses.com

I started by unscrewing the hood and the ring around the front element (they were threaded). After that there were three small screws holding the focusing barrel in place. After that I unscrewed a locking ring (using a lens spanner) which was holding the complete lens assembly inside the lens body.

Body on the left, lens assembly (with aperture blades inside it) in the middle, locking ring on the right:

Aperture mechanism (apart from the aperture blades which are moved via a lever on the lens assembly) was at the bottom of the body. I cleaned the clicking mechanism (there is small steel ball under a spring plate which makes it "click" be careful not to lose it) with some lighter fluid and and regreased it with a very small amount of some kind of vaseline i had.

In the picture the actual aperture ring (and the ring with the depth of field scales) has also been removed but that was not necessary in my case. Of course there might be some dirt between the aperture ring and the body so it might be worth a check.

It has been a few weeks since I did this so I might be forgetting something.
I hope this helps!

I don't have experience with that exact lens but on many other lenses you have to unscrew the name ring around the front element to get to the screws that hold the focus ring. You need some kind of rubber tool to turn the ring. It can be a large o-ring or anything with good friction surface.

Also on some lenses the whole front end with the filter thread unscrews and there might be tiny setscrew(s) around the barrel which you have to loosen first to get it moving.

After you've removed the name ring or the whole filter thread barrel you most likely will see three screws around the front element. Tightening these will attach the focus ring to the focus helicoid again. But if you just tighten the screws you will most likely lose infinity focus so you must adust the infinity. So keep the screws loose a bit longer.

Attach the lens (partly dismantled) to your camera and find a scene where you need infinity focus. Now turn the actual focus barrel under the focus ring until the lens is properly focused. You can rotate the focus barrel from the aforementioned screws by putting a screwdriver to a screwhead and dont turn the screw but revolve the screw around the front element (this is the same thing as turning the focus ring). If you cant reach infinity you have to turn the loose focus ring back a bit to allow the focus barrel to move more.

After you've found the infinity focus line up the infinity mark on the focus ring with the index and tighten the focus ring screws and test. You should have a working focus ring all the way to infinity.

After that just screw the name ring/fliter thread barrel back on and tighten possible set screws and you're done.

Hope this makes sense and helps:)

Pentax K-r noob lense question

Hi! And welcome to Pentaxforums.com!

If your lens is the SMC-M variant you don't need an adapter but it will be fully manual. The bayonet mount (k-mount) should look similar to the one on your kit lens (if you have one). You must enable the use of aperture ring in the camera menu and use the green button to meter stopped down.

Screwmount lenses (SMC Takumar, Super-Takumar, Auto-takumar and a lot of third party lenses) are the ones that need the adapter as they have 42mm thread which was a very common way of attaching lenses from 1950s to 1970s.

Here's the thread covering the basics of manual lenses (incase you haven't read it yet):
Using Manual Lenses (M42 Screwmount, M , K) on Pentax DSLRs F--

Thanks everyone for making this so difficult:lol:

first some thoughts in order of appearance:

bbluesman:
Interesting shot with good composition and great colors. For volatile maybe a little static though?

Tamia:
Volatile indeed. I can hear the flapping of wings. I think I could see this printed large on the wall of some gallery.

Rense:
Great moment captured. I like the bubbles and the look on the guys face is like: "what is that guy doing with that camera? should I release my volatile temper?" I hope it didn't get nasty :). And PP is spot on too.

xjjohnno:
What can I say :D:D the pig seems to be drinking just his(of course it's a he) second beer so his volatile side is still well under control (or he's hiding it well). What happened later?

Iris:
This shot has a lot going on. I like how you're "sitting" on the sofa and the double reflections really enhance the volatile overall feeling. Also Rense looks like he might go off any second :)

jheu02:
The colors, the dof control and composition are spot on. It's like a still from a TV ad. Maybe I would've liked to see even more foam overflowing all over the place.

Manel Brand:
Cloud shots can be pretty boring but this one works quite well. I like the shapes and tones. Especially the small swirl (above center) I can almost see revolving in the wind.

slowpez:
Another great moment captured. I can see the situation is pretty volatile and the pursuing bird looks mad. I think the framing and slight motion blur add to the overall unstable feeling.

ramseybuckeye:
Nice example of the volatile nature of cats. I like the water flying in the air as he turns his head and the sharp paws. btw our cat always drinks by dipping her paw into water and then licking the water from the paw. Plenty of water on the floor around the water cup :)

jmschrei:
This is pretty much the shot I was going to submit before I knew I was in judging duty:). I see whats going on here but maybe getting in closer to see the snow/water better would've enhanced the volatile message?

tootall:
Brilliantly executed water drop shot. Focus is spot on and that green liquid must be something really volatile.

noelcmn
This shot makes me glad we've got only one poisonous snake species here in Finland:) The background works well with the snake and I like the earthy color palette. I just keep waiting to see that tongue to come out...

Jools:
Excellently executed shot. The smoke is beautiful and the pink works well with the blue.

christophleipzig
Another great moment. I love how you've captured the dog in mid-air and he/she also has a sort of a volatile facial expression too.

I really enjoyed all these shots and picking the winners was really hard but...

Third place goes to...
christophleipzig

Second place:
Rense

And the WINNER is...

slowpez

Congrats All!

Welcome to the forum!

Are you're using the kit lens that came with the camera? If it doesn't work straight out of the box as it should then I think it's faulty and you should contact Amazon for a replacement.

The latch holding the screen can be somewhat tight on some cameras. But other than that the installation is quite simple. Just take your time and just before installing the screen blow it clear with a rocket blower/compressed air to get rid of the dust.

Ok I'm back. I hope nobody minds if I keep it short this time. I'm too tired after a week in the sun/ by the pool:p

First the runner-ups:

DanLoc78:

Simply lovely shot. I like how you've managed to depict emotion with a picture of feet (with those all too familiar "shoes" on them)!

jheu02:

Lovely b&w shot showing bodyparts in use. Somehow reminds me of playing guitar...

Rense:

Another beautiful shot. Great b&w conversion with a lot of feeling to it. The texture of the hands tells a lot.

And the Winner:
...Spongefingers!!

I loved this shot from the moment I saw it. I love how at first I don't quite know what I'm looking at... and then I get it (maybe I'm just a bit slow;)). Maybe you could've chosen a little less descriptive name so it wouldn't spoil the satisfaction of "getting it". And I also love the pp with muted color and darkish tones!

Thanks for everyone for participating! As always a lot of great images and picking the winners was not easy.

According to the online dof calculator the 1.9/85 has about half the dof of the 1.4/50mm when the subject distance is the same. But to get the same framing you'd have to get closer with the 50 so I think in that case the dof is smaller with the 50mm.

How to disassemble the FA 28-70mm/F4 AL ?

I've got one which had a small amount of fungus. I was able to remove it by going in from the rear.

I had to first remove th light baffle with the square hole in it (I probably opened the screws around the bayonet but don't remember for sure). Then I removed the rear element with a lens spanner (well I used a caliper to screw open the ring holding the rear element). I don't remember if it was the inside of this element or the next one that had the fungus but anyway I didn't have to dismantle the lens much further to clean it.

I've made my choices but first a few comments (in the order of appearance) and then the winners.

xs400: Good composition and gives me the "I wish I could be there"-feeling

Tamia: Beautiful colours and the zoom effect gives a feeling of running towards that little bridge.

Nomad: Nice colors, I like the fact that there's basically only green and brown to be seen. You really concentrated on the path and I can almost feel the soil in my hands. Maybe you should've moved in even closer?

JanVan: What an interesting place. I like the green of the trees and the reflection on the water. I only wish I could see more of that construction as I can't quite make out what it is.

casil403: Simply beautiful scene with great composition and amazing colors.

jmschrei: Who could resist those gooselings? And they seem to have a small path of their own right next to the pavement.

tpeace
: Very interesting scene with a nice composition. I like the symmetry of the sky and the canyon floor. Also the texture on the rocks and the shape of the boulders are great. The sky is blown out but it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe needs some contrast?

GingerBeer: Good composition with the lines and I like the crisp leaves. Somehow I'd like to see something more (in addition to the painted walker on the ground) closer to the camera on the left.

Iris: Another beautiful scene with beautiful color, composition and depth. First my eyes go up with the trees on the left, then down with trees on the right, then to the dog and then through the trees past the walking person to the end of the road. Simply outstanding.

And the winners are:

3rd place: tpeace

2nd place: casil403

1st place: Iris

Congrats to winners and thanks to everyone else for participating!

Iris will be judging Project 52-2-44 Subject: Pattern

Hopefully I'll see you there!

I've got a K200D and although it doesn't excel at high ISOs correct exposure and resizing helps:D

It was shot wide open as the lens used doesn't have an aperture at all. It's a manual focus lens based on the Russian Helios-40 1.5/85mm. It was originally built for a night vision device but it has a M42 thread so it can be used with a DSLR. There has been some threads about it in the Lens forum. Focusing is really difficult as the dof at the closest focusing distance is about an inch. I've got a split screen but I have to bracket focus a lot.

Our cat is very skittish but at least she's not afraid of the shutter sound. I haven't even tried a flash yet.

Here's another shot of her from last night, went for B&W as this was a heavy crop with a lot of visble noise.
