hi all,
I just noticed my mac downloading an update to iPhoto 08 which allows uploading of RAW images.
Seems to work adequately, all the sliders are left neutral except for colour temp and tint.

I just bought a second hand *ist D, for the same reason, a few old pentax lenses knocking about. (The ubiquitous SMC M 50mm, the "A" zoom below, and an M42 135mm F1.8 Spiratone.)
I didn't even know my Tokina 80-200 had an "A" setting, because my ME super didn't make use of it. (Doh!)
After a week I can confidently use all the settings, flip the ISO up and down in a hurry, shoot sports action of my son, shoot at the beach, shoot interior night restaurant with no flash, shoot hummingbirds suddenly appearing outside my window, all without fuss or panic.
The point I'm trying to make is the camera has such simple controls, as opposed to menu's, that even I can use it quickly and effectively. Always manual focus, always with either the depth of field, or shutter, or ISO I want. No fuss.
I'm sure there's a modern version, but at $260 for the body, I'm a very happy bunny. So happy in fact, I'm now looking for more good SMC A lenses for it. (They're a lot less fuss than the older lenses, although the M42 is really WYSIWYG)
Just my 10 pence.
cheers dunc.

woo hooo.
done it, with your help.
this is amazing!
Now I can use all 3 of my lenses!
I love this camera. No bullshit "Sunset fill in flash portrait in the rain" settings to confuse me.
Just numbers. I'm a happy man.
thanks for all the help.

Hi Ian,
I have been looking for an ist D, recently, and eventually got one from KEH for $260 with no lens.
I've been searching this site constantly looking for advice, (mainly to decide what to get, then to see if there was one here.)
I mised out on yours, and I think it's because you're listed as "ist* ", instead of "*ist" or just "ist DS"
I could be wrong, but I think if you swap the asterisk around, and leave a space, the search engine may throw up a few more hits.
Just an idea.
dunc.
ps, sorry if you got an earlier deleted post, this one supercedes all others.

thanks for the advice,
I got a Sandisk 2GB for starters, with a card reader.
Cheap as chips.
next project is to upgrade firmware from 1.0.
I guess I will need a cable for this one?

Hello all,
I've been snooping this thread for a fortnight looking for the best entry to DSLR's for myself, eventually plumping for a used *ist D from KEH. (I don't like menu's)
I've been a happy home user of the excellent ME super for over 25 years now, so I've a few OK lenses to play with, but I need a bit of a pointer to the best/ fastest memory card to put in. I know it's a bit of a moveable feast, and I'm sure the fastest cards will exceed the camera's ability to write. I'm just a regular guy, shooting family and holiday stuff, manual focus only until I can justifiy the extra expense of an Autofous lens. Probably will use the burst mode however, hopefully at a decent resolution.
I'm also wondering if I can plug the camera straight into my Mac's iPhoto, with the appropriate cable so if you have an Istdee, and can spare the time, I'd be glad of the help.
regards
duncan
