Firmware v1.31 causes wireless P-TTL issues on the K10D?

I haven't upgraded to 1.31 either. I have had no problems with wireless flash and the 540FGZ in firmware 1.30 and using it in "master" and "controller" modes. I do know that I have to make sure that my Flash is securely fixed in the hot shoe WHEN registering the flash gun.
Firmware 1.31 is for "Improved stability of recording images for some SDHC memory cards"
Can't see the connection, so would advise you to contact Pentax

Mattmatic has answered my question..........I was still in Slave2 instead of Slave1.......apparently when setting up the wireless flash settings and registering them on the camera the instructions in the flash manual do not appear to be quite complete as I DID set the Slave to channnel 1 but it remained as channel 2. Anyway by holding down the Light swith for 2 secs one can change the Slave channel and it stays set !! ...Slave 2 is the "dumb" slave and only works in A auto or M manual.....Thanks Matt...

HELP !!! I am trying to use the K10D with the AF540 flash as slave in wireless mode with the built-in flash as controller as shown on page 40 in the flash manual. I have followed the instructions step by step and with great care, but when I have registered the flash with the camera I cannot get the flash back into P-TTL mode.
The camer is set to wireless flash and the custom menu shows the built-in flash is to trigger the AF540 only. I have tried setting the camera mode to Av and Tv and P but still can't get the AF540 into P-TTL. The camera will fire the flash wirelessly in A auto or M manual............What am I doing wrong please???

Poll: Why did you buy a Pentax DSLR?

I too bought a Pentax after considerable research into Nikon, Canon, Oly, and Sony, and decided that Pentax gave you the best value for money by far, the best quality product in that range of DSLR, and probably the most important aspect SR !!! I have a rather shakey hand. And I now have a Pentax K10D and am very happy with it, but if I win Lotto I will probably get the K-7 and a lot of good glass.

To soften/diffuse the On Camera Flash of the K10D, I cut a slot in the side of a WHITE 35mm container and slip it over the top of the flash........works well.

Thanks for your advice Marc, I was not aware of the OK/e-dial method and so was searching for a solution to my shaky hand problem and the need to frequently change ISO. It certainly was driving me mad to have to go to Fn and scroll to desired ISO and press the OK button. I will try both methods......regards, John.

In acknowledgement to Marc, I was not aware of the OK/e-dial method of changing ISO.... I used the Fn button and scrolled to the relevant ISO and clicked the OK button by which time the subject had long gone!!...... I have a VERY shaky hand and even with SR I don't have the range of settings that you guys do - so I up the ISO frequently in order to get the Pic as sharp as possible...........John

I used to do it that way too. But I find that I want to change the ISO more often than I want to modify the exposure, so I switched to the other method. Just a matter of personal preference I suppose. Pentax seem to cater for everyone !!!..............John

The default for the e-dial in AV mode - the front e-dial has no function. The default for the e-dial in TV mode - the rear e-dial has no function. I just thought that ISO is so important to me to control, I would use the OTHER e-dial for ISO and I can see it all the time.....,John

Thanks Marc for the welcome - have been too shy to post before - but now the flood gates maybe open !!! I believe the K10D does NOT have the feature you mention - only the K20D. I don't often use Exposure compensation so don't need Option 1. I now have NO button to press, ONLY e-dial to adjust and I can see all three items in the LCD at once. ...John

I don't think the K10D is the same as the K20D............but anyway, I have only to adjust the ISO with the e-dial.........NO buttons to press.

Hi All............(first post!)
I have owned a K10D for just over a year (first DSLR, previously used a Nikon F501 film) and have been playing with the settings to achieve the most reliable and quick response in everyday use, one of DP review's main criticisms on the KD10D was that there was no ISO button, and I agree that control over ISO is just as important as aperture and shutter speed.
In the custom menu there are numerous settings for e-dials and after a lot of playing around I have settled on:-
Option 4 - Aperture priority mode - Rear e-dial - aperture
Front e-dial - ISO
Option 4 - Shutter priority mode - Rear e-dial - ISO
Front e-dial - shutter speed
Exposure compensation is still easy to access with the +/- button and the front e-dial. I shoot 80% of the time in AP and 20% SP, but on both settings I can now see and adjust all three settings - aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
NO NEED FOR AN ISO BUTTON!
Please comment on this approach.
I have not seen a thread on this subject, but apologise if there is and I missed it.
PS I have spent many happy hours reading the Pentax forum threads (and Pentax UK too) - most informative - thanks guys........... JOHN
