Did you use 55-300 HD PLM or the old screwdrive version?

Depends on how much cost the repair... I would go for a 15 prime for wide and for a zoom everything you want :) 17-70 / f4 is a good option... i own sigma 17-70, pretty good... for wide shots i have a tamron 12-24, but i'm not very impressed. the image is sharp in the center, but pretty soft on the corners, i cannot recommend this lens.

Also there are some pretty nice limited lenses like 20-40 :)

I underatand the advice. I try to setup my camera for best jpeg results and then get back here.
I doubt that I will get results like this without filters or better lenses.

:)) Thanks. On low light i got around 3-5 shots out of focus ( that will be a rate of success between 50-70% ). Is there a solution for fixing this? For solving this i focus on other direction and then get back to my subject. Well... this is driving crazy when i got that shot, right there... a butterfly or a bird... happy that i catch the perfect one... and then i look and i see that is out of focus...

I know that changing the lens will not improve the raw file :). This are 2 different discussions.

A good lens has his advantages
1. Sharpenes
2. Brightenes
3. Less CA
4. Less noise
5. More clear details

I found pentax 35mm/2.4 a very good lens for his price. The problem with this lens is that sometimes has back focus. Don't know... from 10 pictures one must be out of focus. Especially in low light.

What about a full frame lens on a crop camera? I guess that instead of 24-70 I will have 35-105... or something like that (multiply with 1.5)

Thank you Roger,

I admit that I like bright and coloured photos... I try to improve the quality of my photos. Looking back with couple of years and now, is clearly an improvement. Unfortunately I don't have very much time for this passion... Couple of hours in a week...and because is just a hobby I try to invest as little as possible... I make small steps.
Honestly before pentax I was using Nikon D40x, D80 and D90. Most of the photos was simple point and click... when I got my first pentax (kx) I was very unsatisfied by full auto mode :)
Over time we became friends and here I am 4years later and still using pentax.

I admit I don't like the blueish photos, I don't like that I need to edit every single photo for a decent result.
I also admit that nikon image processor does things much better than pentax (jpeg vs jpeg)... an have much brighten photos... the entire system works better... but, I choose pentax. Is something else and if you understand it and learn how to work perfectly with it, you will got some great results.

Price vs quality from my opinion pentax is no.1. Also you got the advantage with old lenses that are a real bargain...

After I bought the sigma 70-300 i said that's the colour match that i like.
Now i would like to buy a sigma lens to replace my 16-50.
I was looking at 17-50 and 17-70 hopping that will achieve the same accurate warm tones as my 70-300.

Later edit: I also hate the AF system... driving me crazy sometimes.

Here are few of my photos: Life trough Pentax Lens | Flickr

I'm not a beginner. This is not my first pentax camera or my first DSLR. I'm just looking for suggestions for improving landscape photography and to avoid making the same mistakes. I haven't find that JPEG settings that could make me smile... that's why i'm struggling with raw files.

I guess i will need some filters on my lens. Out there on the market are lots of brands. In the past i was happy with carl zeiss filters and heliopan. I also used cheap hoya, but honestly i haven't seen an improvement and are very hard to clean.
There are also great brands like BW but i understand that most of them are fake.
What is your opinion? Does the brand name maters ? Does a UV haze 2B or a skylight affects in any way the picture on modern DSLR?

What makes a picture good? The camera or the lens?

Thanks!

The jpeg doesn't look very good. The image is slightly unexposed and have a red/magenta tint... I look again on the photos from my last holiday... from what I see, the pictures taken with 35mm/2.4 are ok most of them. The pictures taken with 16-50/2.8 is a mess. Hazy and wierd exposed...

I will buy a CPL filter, maybe it will cut the haze and increase the contrast.

Another thing, what good lens can you recommend me?
I look for sharp, bright and accurate colours...

I was looking at:
Sigma 35/1.4
Sigma 30/1.4
Sigma 18-35/1.8
Pentax 55/1.4
Sigma 17-17/2.8-5.6
Pentax 18-135

I also own an sigma 70-300 and I was thinking to.replace it with pentax hd 50-300...

Thanks guys!

I use P, AV or M mode and this are my camera settings. Maybe i did something wrong... don't know... or maybe i just need more from the camera and in this case i should make an upgrade.

I have seen raw files before. The only problem that on my k3 are underexposed and when i PP i need to increase the exposure with 1-2 stops and from there everything goes in a wrong direction.

Later edit:

Some underexposed raws.
And another thing, same shot scenario, sometimes close the aperture at f10 and the second shoot close the aperture at f4.0. From my opinion is a huge bug on a semi-pro camera regarding the light measurement. Because, from here starts everything... from the light sensor measurement. On shots where you got bright sun, clouds, sea, mountains, even the sky is white or the face of the subject is black or you got a lot of bluehaze on the background...

Ok, i could not find the same shot with nikon vs pentax but i did find something similar... kx vs d3300.

Also i have attached a lot some pictures maded with the k3 in raw mode. Another thing that bother me is that the raw files are darker and i need to work a lot in LR to obtain what i want. Also i got the feeling that i got to many blue/magenta in the photos. And i hate photos on sunny days... if i don't PP a beautiful sunny day looks like gray out like a cloudy day.

Another thing that i don't like and don't know how to fix it... Pentax photos are not so bright compared to nikon.

I have changed from KX to K5ii... and from k5II to K5 iis... and now i own a K3. All of my cameras have done the same things:

1. Autofocus lacks sometime with BF or FF
2. The raw images are to dark and the sunny days looks like cloudy ones
3. The brightness is kind of muted compared to nikon or sony.

So, how can i solve all does things? :)

I also own an Sigma 70-300, well the photos are sharp and warm... i kind of like it... but i cannot use 70-300 all the time.

Hello,

I own a pentax k3 and various pentax lenses (16-50/f2.8, 35mm/2.4, 50-200). I have noticed a lot of haze on my photos on mountains or seaside. One of my friends owns a Nikon d3300. Shooting the same subject with both cameras (d3300 with AFP 18-55 and k3 with 16-50 or 35mm) at f8, the Nikon have better results.
The photos with k3 are hazy, blueish... and the photos from the d3300 are without any haze or blueish tone.

If I use an UV filter haze 2E it will cut the haze and see any improvement?
I like shooting landscapes, but in more than 50% I got this annoying haze.

Thank you!

Theory on DA 35mm ltd 'greatest lens ever' (?) tag

Hello guys,

I have a DA 35mm/2.4. The problem is that most of the shots are out of focus. Is not a rule... sometimes back focus, sometimes front focus, and if I’m lucky the focus is done correctly.

This lens can be calibrated?

Tested on k5ii and k5iis. On the k5ii from 10 pics 2 are out of focus. On k5iis from 10pics 5 or more are out of focus.

How can I fix this?

Thank you!

Hello,
I need a new viewfinder glass for my k5 II.

from where I can buy this and what will be the costs?

I also attached a picture with the part. It has a very very small dent on the top frame.

Thank you!

Also I’m looking the same part for a k110.
