New to the forum. My name is Terry. Love all aspects of photography. This was one of my first attempts to shoot a macro using my reversed 55mm at 2.8 on my 150-300 (300mm focused at inifinity) at 5.6. I have not purchased a flash for this camera at this point, thus the high ISO. It was next to impossible to even focus even in bright afternoon light due to looking through the 2 lenses that were coupled. The loaded jpeg image is around 285KB. The original file was a 70 MP DNG. Handheld. I plan to get better and post better images. Need to procure a good macro rail and flash system, which I have been researching. I actually purchased the camera for doing landscapes, but can't help myself. I really love macro.

Since taking up photography again in 2018 (after a 37 yr break) I have become much more aware of just how many different variations there are with each type of bird - and ducks are no exception! K3P20758_DxO by Peter Wighton, on Flickr

Dear Board,
I joined here many years ago when I bought an ME Super. I would read from time to time, but never really participated in the forum.
That changed in the Spring of this year when I started asking questions about my new to me Spotmatic F. Since then I've managed to assemble a nice collection of M42 lenses, many came from members of this board.
I've asked many questions and they all have been answered with thoughtful answers and words of encouragement.
I belong and actively participate on several photo forums. I can't really explain the general tone of this forum, but I have to say it's high on my list of places I visit every day. Maybe it's because this is a brand specific forum, but I'd like to thank the members here for their continued encouragement and help.
Regards,
Tim Murphy

I really hoped I'd never have to write a post like this.
I've given it great deal of thought, and - now that I've distilled it all - I wanted to share with everyone why I might, after 13 years as a Pentax user, finally leave the brand for good :o
I've been thinking about a number of threads and posts from the last few weeks and months (years, even), and there are all sorts of reasons to consider:
- the time between product releases has increased
- the technology is outdated (DSLR vs mirrorless)
- AF performance continues to lag vs. mirrorless
- the cameras and lenses are too expensive
- no articulating screen on flagship APS-C
- the lenses are updates of old screw-drive models
- there are holes in the lens line-up
- the lens road-map has been scrapped
- marketing is almost non-existent
- they're wasting time on a film camera instead of a K-1II replacement
- Pentax' position in industry sales rankings
- year-on-year profits are slightly down (or only slightly up) for any given year
- warranty repair is difficult
- out-of-warranty repair is uneconomical
- there are no Pentax cameras or lenses in brick 'n' mortar stores
- the future of Pentax is uncertain
I know these must be important considerations because they're mentioned and discussed here so frequently. You can imagine my concerns. Still, despite this, my decision to ditch Pentax won't actually be due to any of these potential deal-breakers.
No... I might finally - and sadly - leave Pentax for good if it fails as a brand to meet my own personal needs as an enthusiast photographer.
I'm mentioning all this now so that I don't have to post and tell you good folks my thoughts each time I'm on a downer about my gear or the brand, and/or thinking about switching. I'm mentioning it now so that I don't need to come back a day, week, month, year or several years after switching to share my opinions - repeatedly - on Pentax and its failings, and let you know how my new system meets my needs so much better. Of course, I could, if current Pentax users here would find that helpful? Please do let me know if that's the case and I'll make a mental note of it ;)
Thankfully, for the last 13 years, my slowly-evolving kit of Pentax and compatible gear has served me admirably. Like the companies that have owned the brand, it's far from perfect - but it mostly does what I need, and I really enjoy using it. None of the reasons above, seemingly important to some other members, has had the slightest impact on the quality of images I produce or my enjoyment of the process. The time spent discussing them may have reduced my photographic output at times, and my opportunities to improve - but I'm getting there gradually and enjoy my photography immensely. I also enjoy this community much of the time - especially the constructive posts that are helpful to me and others, or support and reinforce the brand I've chosen to use - the brand these forums are dedicated to. I like it, too, when I can offer a bit of help and advice or something else constructive to fellow members - something more than just personal opinion or bias on camera brands.
So... maybe things aren't quite as bad as they're frequently painted. On balance, I guess I won't be leaving Pentax after all. Not just yet, eh? Apologies for the confusion, folks ;) :D EDIT: If you got this far, dear reader, and still think I'm being serious, it's high time I let you in on the joke... :lol:

We visited the Little Rock Zoo for the first time this year and had a great time viewing the animals. I was able to get the best shots of the Jaguar that I have ever taken as he was up in the tree and quite active. Attached are several images. Hope you enjoy them.

First I need to make a Damascus billet for the cladding.
I found six little pieces of very thin pure nickel sheet lying around, already cut to 38x50 for a previous project.
I have 1.46mm thickness 1075 in 38mm width strips, and 1.7mm 15N20 in a big sheet, so I'm planning a complex layering of the three to give a mix of dark, shiny and very shiny once it's etched in ferric chloride much later in the game.
Here are the raw materials.

I hope you are all doing well, and thanks for the people who contacted me! I've been away for a while because of various things, including a night photography trip at Nelson Ghost Town in Nevada, south of Las Vegas. This went super super well, really smoothly, lots of fun, with everyone learning tons of stuff. I incorporated this as part of an eleven-night night photography trip through Nevada and Route 66 as well! Anyway, here's some information about this cool stone cabin from a previous trip in April. Ironwood Dreams
~~~~~~
Check out this night photo of this abandoned historic Southwest stone cabin, likely built in the late 1800s. It glows at night, illuminated by a warm handheld light during the long exposure. The person who built this was a renowned artist who loved nature. It's amazing to think about the history and stories these buildings hold. Thanks!
I'm so behind on posting. I'll post one just one more after this so I won't flood the Pentax Forums with my night images, haha!
After using the 28-105mm lens extensively, almost having it "glued" to the K-1, I'm back to using the 15-30, which has historically been my workhorse lens. And Then There Was Crimson
~~~~~
Hey, here's a photo from one of my night photography safaris! This is a vintage Ford Model A that I stumbled upon on my travels. I used a handheld light to illuminate the car and capture its mysterious aura during this long exposure photo. I used some warm white light, but the darkness and strange red light on the headlights and windshield lend an extra touch of intrigue and mystery. I hope you like it. There was a High Wind Advisory this particular evening. While I went to talk to someone for a minute, gust of wind over 45 mph blew over my Nikon D750. It's not really night photography unless you have some of these mishaps, I suppose. I chose to photograph indoors for a while with my other camera.

. . . . that was driven by Carroll Shelby back in the day.
Yesterday, for the first time since 2019, I attended the Keels and Wheels Concours at Houston's Lakewood Yacht Club. While not a huge affair, it's a genuinely upscale event (40 bucks a ticket) that features some really special cars. This year, I went with three other guys, none of whom are photographers, so I didn't have the leisure to spend time shooting that I normally take at such events. Anyway, I did the best I could.
This particular car is a true piece of automotive history.

This was taken with an older Vivitar 80-200mm macro-zoom lens. It's a stretch calling it a "macro" lens, at 1:4, but at it's best, it can produce some decent close-up photos. It was a Kobori-made (#77xxxxx) lens that absolutely shined at f:8. I've had great luck with either the #77xxxx Kobori or the #22xxxx Kiron lenses from Vivitar.

I didn't notice it had an insect until I reviewed the image magnified on the K3 iii's LCD screen!
I was as close as I have ever been to this bird, hence took time to lower my default aperture setting for better DOF. Was using a tripod, but without tightening the tripod head (Vanguard GH 300T, using shutter release cable and the GH 300T "trigger")
It had been flitting about, so assume it caught the insect in mid-air. Attachment 601997 |

A large raining cloud over Chapada dos Guimarães in the State of Mato Grosso, Central West Region of Brazil. Taken from the airplane on the flight back from Cuiaba to Sao Paulo after a business trip. I had a limited angle view due to the airplane wing, so I had to zoom in a little closer.
