Thanks for pointing that out. Until now I had no ideas that the rings had an A and that I needed to press a button to put it on the A. It is done and have turned off the Aperture ring setting. Thanks very much for the tip.

I received a new K200D for Christmas. I have a Sigma 100-300mm zoom lens as well as a Pentax 100mm Macro Lens. When I try to take photos with either of those lenses, there is a flashing "F" and nothing happens when I press on the shutter button. There must be a setting to set in the camera and I forgot which one. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks
*** Update ***
Disregard I figured it out. I needed to set the Aperture ring to Permitted.

Well went to Henry's today and bought a Pentax 100mm f2.8 macro lens. Hope I will get some good shots with it. Again thanks to all.

OK thanks for all the input. I'll probably go for the Tamron macro.

I am kind of new to digital SLR's so I would need some guidance from the experts. I am looking to purchase a few lenses for my Pentax istDL and just don't know which ones to get.
I am interested in buying a macro lens to photograph up close and a telephoto lens which will give me great zooming and not break my bank account. I so far have a Sigma Zoom 100-300mm and the usual 18-50mm lenses. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I have obtained a JJC remote control which I am told is compatible with my camera, a Pentax istDL. Problem is I can't get it to work. I've checked the battery inside the remote and it is fine. I enter into the function mode of the camera and set it for remote control. I see the red light blinking on the camera but when I press on the remote control's button, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? Am I forgetting to do a step? Thanks

Thanks for the info. So to take a long exposure or with a 300mm lens, then the technique to avoid shake would be a tripod and a remote control?

This is a rookie question, but am I correct to assume that the istDL does not have a shake reduction feature at all? Thanks

Just joined. My name is Danny and I live near Montreal. I just received for Christmas a Pentax istDL and looking forward to the many photos. I am into nature, wildlife and astrophotography.
If any have good dealers around the Montreal area or mail order, please let me now as I would be looking for a remote control for my camera. Thanks
