Failed FW update.

Where did you download the firmware update from? Was it at the Pentax/Hoya Digital Imaging support website or from a Boogleding search and non Pentax manufacturer website?

The latest firmware file name should look exactly like this 1330987397_k7_e112w.exe

Also when I am updating firmware I try to use a fresh SD card when possible. It's just a great five or $10.00 investment these days.
Take for example the latest K-7 firmware update file size is less than 10mb. A 2GB card can be be bought new for under $5 bucks these days. Food for thought.

Not to be critical but more on the advice side of things always look at the possible errors that can and might throw an SD card out of whack when updating firmware. KISS Keep It Simple Stu,,,is the rule that I use.

I am reasonably sure pulling the battery did not help. The update firmware will always attempt show an update failed screen whenever possible, From my understanding even when the battery has more than one percent of its power left. It could be possible that your battery was failing and unfortunately you did not wait the process out.. It can take almost an hour in some cases.. Patience is a virtue

Which is better Pentax F 50mm f1.7 or FA 50mm f1.7

Getting down to that comment,

My thoughts are its prudent to ask a reasonable question about prices. What would be the realistic price for these gems?

From my experience over the past few years an F 50 1.7 in excellent condition should be bought in the $135-150.00 range. Unfortunately they seem to be up in the 200-250 range lately. It could be the lens is becoming highly sought after and less available with supply and demand.

Let alone the FA which when available can run up to the mid $350.00 range. That just blows my mind when they fly out the door used for that price.

Then attempt looking for an F 50 1.4 and they are unheard of at less than two C notes if ever they are on the market.

So my thoughts are that "MAX BIDDER" is speculating and driving the market up with good reason Pentax only made a limited amount of these gems.and we all want them.

So my best advice when looking for one at a good price is tag sales, flea markets, the off day (mid week eBay auction) , film bodies with sets of lenses and most of all be very patient and you shall find it.

Or we team up on these "Max bidders" as Pentax users and establish a price and don't buy the lens till the price comes down,to what we feel is reasonable. That's highly unlikely but it works In the North American and European economies. But now the China Syndrome market is opening up BIG TIME.

Good golly these gems could become so rare that the price will drive up to $5,000.00 plus. LOL food for thought.

Econ 101 revisited, The "Marginal Propensity to Consume". Lets sell our stuff off make a profit and move on to the lesser C and N stuff and settle for less.

With having quite a bit of experience with both lenses you mention. You can't go wrong with either lens. The F version has quite a bit more of a solid build than the FA. Do a search in the forum for "my FA lens fell apart" horror stories. It has happened in my experience with the front element slipping out of synch and it cost $170.00 for Pentax to repair and is a factor to consider when buying used. Three years after the FA repair it has been very solid. So the F version does have the no worries factor attached with it.

As far as speed and how quick. The FA is a tad bit faster and for some reason a bit sharper with slightly better bokeh than the F version but marginally noticeable. Optically the elements are identical.

The FA version is quite difficult to find these days and you will be paying a premium in cost for that factor.

Hope this helps good luck with your fleabay hunting.

one hint 24 is way off add 6 and use the last then letter then first in "and" the crop equals 14 and 7 tenths.

Here is another apsect to think about.

For example I have two K-10's and when I move one card that was used into the other body that body registers the image count of the other body. When checking this afternoon with the EXIF shutter release count https://www.pentaxforums.com/pages/check-shutter-count-exif.html .
One camera body shows 6,556 and the other body shows 14,428 both counts are accurate.

Yet my image IMGP file numbers change and show that there are 16,556 actuations in the file name and the camera body retains that file number sequence structure. This also transfers to my my K-5 when the card is used in that body and the actual count on that body is 3,873. Strange nuance. But insert a card with a lower file count and the file IMGP number will still retain the higher file number. Insert a card with a higher file number than is actually with the firmware it changes the actual image numbers to the higher count and the camera retains that count for file naming. Yet the Firmware retains the actual shutter count.

Hope this makes sense. I noticed this when when my file numbers jumped up by nearly 2,000 a few months ago.

You are correct, and I agree, but it is a one step less hassle process to just "weed out" them with selecting "specify seller's" and copy and paste the text file into the "exclude sellers" list.

Hope this helps.

My hopes are you are not a "PAID" to comment in forums to protect "Big Time High Budget Sellers" member of this forum.

Yes I can "read" between the lines.

The original intention of this thread was "exactly" for Pentax user's looking for great quality "used" equipment.

Nothing more nothing less.

It is absolutely "ridiculous" to look at several thousand's of "misrepresented Brand Name listings" on Fleabay. When the main search purpose is to find "quality" Pentax equipment.

Without "flooding the marketplace" with useless listings, that no-one want's to look at.

At a garage sale today, 3 boxed lenses mint. First one that caught my eye a boxed SMC Pentax-F 135mm F2.8 [IF] absolutely mint $5.00. A boxed mint SMC Pentax-F 28mm F2.8 for $4.50,The grandaddy buy of my life a mint SMC Pentax-F* 300mm F4.5 ED [IF] boxed with a mint Pentax travel case designed for the lens $50.00.

The seller was more interested in getting $450.00 for her fathers MV 1 camera body, and insisted the lenses were way to old to be used with today's current technology and digital camera bodies. Why argue that point?

So we fought for 45 minutes arguing/haggling over the price of the camera body. I walked away without buying the MV-1 but I had 3 boxed mint F lenses in hand for a mere $59.50.

I walked away and had a tad of guilt, but the seller insisted on her price.

Plus .50 cents left over from the $60.00 I had in my pocketbook. I bought a cup of coffee with that on my way home and called it a day.

Every one in this forum said I was full of it about two years ago about the D645, and guess what D645 came about? Or was that a dream? Full Frame will turn the photographic world around in digital C and N "CAN NOT DO IT YET" P has it and it's "BIG" in a "SMALL" package.

Read between the lines, Pentax does "NOT" release their secrets until they release the product, but they need individuals to test them. And they have to get permission to make a forum post like this.

Hi, I hope you find this post very helpful,

For those of you that do a general "Pentax" search for item's for sale on what I prefer to call "Fleabay" and find a plethora and flooding of sellers touting batteries, wide angle screw on lenses, battery chargers, camera cases, and just plain flooding of items using the Pentax tag.

Having arrived at a solution and a blocked sellers list eliminating having to sort through all their listings to find legitimate Pentax equipment for sale. So far this is for items within North America. Hopefully when I find the time this list can be expanded to a worldwide elimination of blocked sellers list, ie: HONG KONG, a literal irritant to me personally flooding eBay with listings.

For example when doing a general search for "Pentax" on fleabay, 31,000+ results appear, When narrowing the search down to North America. The item list drops to around 16,000, when adding the blocked sellers list, the item count drops to around 5,000 plus of legitimate Pentax equipment listings.

I am sure these are all legitimate sellers , but when its an item you really do not want to look at nor searching for then the obvious block will help narrow your fleabay search down.

Here is my list of blocked sellers, Feel free to add to it when another "flooder of listings" is found.

I guess Pentax/Hoya better think it out. Mainstream is what sells. The best part is Pentax "Has The Product" They should do something about it. Why in the Hell did they make it in the first place?

Some that post here are "experts" in Pentax PK mounts and I have probably had more in my hands than you will ever have in a lifetime.

Here is a link to some of the less than top rated Pentax lens's I have owned and still own more than one of each that I have had in my hands.

You would crap a 25+ pound brick with major hemorrhoids as a result. If I showed you some of my DA star lenses.

I do not need to, I have them and you do not.

Look let's get something straight. I post in this forum for informing, not to mislead. I post here when I have time to do so and to help and not degrade forum members.

If you are so "daft" of mind to think that someone like myself whom has been exclusively using Pentax equipment for over 30+ years has not established a "working relationship" with Pentax/Hoya. You are sincerely fooling "yourself".

Having returned home from quite a wonderful Sports weekend.

Something holds true about Pentax. On the sidelines at the Michigan Indiana football game on Saturday. The press photographers again chuckled " here she is again with her (cough, cough, cough,) Pentax equipment. All 30 or so of these photographers, which I work with on a regular basis, take great fun in poking fun at this. While they run around with their C&N equipment. Boasting their greatest new hard on's in camera equipment

But my next assignment on Sunday took me to the (cough, cough, cough,) Detroit lions @ Packers Game. While unpacking my F* 250-600 from its case another photographer that was also at the Indiana venue. Cracked off a comment of "are you still shooting with those old crap Pentax lenses?"

Another photographer in our group shot back at him " then why the hell is she more published than all of us as a whole?"" Might it be she uses Pentax?"

Not one of them took the time to notice the black tape over the branding on the camera body.
They were to busy poking fun at me for using Pentax. Except the one who noticed.

By now Pentax/Hoya has figured out who I am, but after 30 some years of devotion and cooperation to this brand. Why not use true story about Pentax in the field of the real world?

The response to this should be quite a good read.

Leica is one that I agree with "to die for equipment" Unfortunately they just do not fit the bill in today's society and needs. Really great stuff but they just do not fit the bill. Cosina is not anywhere in there. They wont make the grade.

Pentax/Hoya made the grade and they fit in with the consumer and "photographer" bill.
