Bump. This is a great lens on the K3ii and I suspect will be better on the K1. I am open to reasonable offers but it is quite a bargain...anyone!

I do not know how to edit the listing but I would class the lens as good not excellent because the foot of the tripod collar underneath where it mounts shows some slight wear. The optics are in great condition as can be seen from the images.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 60-300mm f/3.8-5.4 (23A) & Tamron Adaptall PKA, PK/A Lens M Asking Price
75.00 GBP Item Location
Sheffield (UK) Item Description
This is an excellent manual lens that has produced some great images for me on the K3ii and would be great on the K1. It moves into macro mode really easily and has a smooth operation.
These lenses are built extremely well and this one is no exception. Includes the original case and lens caps. Free of fungus and scratches, snappy iris.
This sale also includes the lens mount that will work with Pentax and Samsung DSLR cameras. In the Pentax it will send all aperture info. etc. to camera body and auto aperture functions can be used. This adapter is worth around £35.00 on its own.
I would happily recommend this lens to anyone. Attached are a few shots I took. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

This is a little gem of a landscape lens that I did not know existed until I picked it up. It takes great images and the autofocus is quick. It is a sharp lens if used properly. See the examples taken on the Pentax K3 ii.
The lens is in excellent condition and is clear save for very minor dust that is typical of a lens of this age but does not affect image quality in any way.
The glass is free of scratches and fungus, iris is nice and snappy.

This lens with the Pentax digital SLR is a great combination, especially the Pentax K1 or K3. This is an excellent lens that has some minor internal dust that is typical of a lens of this age but does not in any way affect the images taken. Blades nice and snappy only small signs of use for age.
Some images are shown here with the parrot and lemur being the latest shots taken with this lens to show just how excellent this lens is with the Pentax K3 ii.

Thanks for the input. Does anyone have any experience of using a teleconverter with the Tamron 70-200mm? Which one would you recommend?

Thank you everyone for the food for thought. I think I am going to go for the Tamron. If I can find a way to keep the 135mm as an easy carry round I will but it wont be the end of world if I can't as I am also enjoying using my nifty fifties at the moment for walking around and taking family pics, I was lucky enough to have found a good copy of an SMC-M f1.4 and an A f1.7.

Hello, this may seem like a strange comparison but I am looking for anyone with any experience of both these lenses.
I currently own the SMC Pentax-A 135mm F2.8 and am very please with the results, there is a little bit of fringing in high contrast situations but nothing that cannot be controlled or editing post.
I also have the Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 60-300mm f/3.8-5.4 (23A), which again, I have obtained some good results. However, the issue (for me) with the 60-300mm is the lack of auto-focus which has meant a number of missed opportunities as my manual focusing skills are just not that good when a quick shot is required and resulted in a number of missed opportunities an autofocus will have captured. I would also like to slim line the camera bag as well. So I have been toying with the idea of selling a few lenses (and herein lies the dilemma), including the aforementioned so that I can by the Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD Macro so I can have a good quality zoom but at a price I can afford (well afford if I sell a few other lenses).
So what I want to know, is the Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD Macro, at 135mm, comparable in quality to the SMC Pentax-A 135mm F2.8. I would hate to part with the SMC 135mm I have, to find that the Tamron is not a patch on it. I know that generally primes have a better IQ than zooms but given the Tamron has the newer low dispersion glass I wondered whether it would bring the 2 closer together.
Thanks for any real objective views anyone might be able to give. I am trying to get away from the romanticism of using good old Pentax glass on a DSLR because of the particular quirks they have and consider straight forward image quality comparisons that can be made e.g. sharpness, aberrations, fringing, vignetting etc. because a lot of those quirks such as colour rendition and contrast etc. can be re-created in Lightroom/Photoshop to a large extent.

Thank you. It is nice and unexpected to receive such a comment given how long I have been photographing. How do you find the detail on the mirror lens on large images? I have been toying with the idea of getting one for the extra reach but read that they weren't quite as sharp as standard lenses.
Great shot catching the Bird like that. Always makes for a more interesting image when the subject is in the process of doing something.

Thanks. She inherits the hair from me. Hope it doesn't drop out as well after she hits 30! ;)
I've found the lens is great for portraits of children as it has a nice softness to it when it is open but sharpens up when stepped down.

Thank you for your comments everyone. They are all very helpful.
I am going to stick with the A f1.7 for now and get the M f1.4 to play with. The 1.7 has done me well to date (below is an example image I snapped in a rare moment of quite!). If the f1.4 suits me I will consider investing in the A version.
Merry Christmas everyone. |

So it appears there are benefits to holding onto the 1.7 as well as the 1.4 until I settle on which suits me better then.

I have the SMC-A 135/2.8 winging its way to me from Poland as we speak.
The slightly thinner depth of feel could come in use and I have heard the bokeh is more pleasant on the 1.4, presumably helped by the extra diaphragm blades, 8 as opposed to 6?

So...If the optics for the 1.4 were carried over from the M to the A, the only real drawback of the M is the lack of aperture data in the EXIF file and light metering, which is just a press of the green button or a DOF preview which is right next to the shutter button, so not much effort required, unless I am mistaken. On the plus side build quality is better and the M seems to be half the price.

Hello,
This is my first post on here. I moved from Nikon recently and bought the K3ii. Which I am very happy with. To date my best lens is the SMC Pentax A f1.7 that I picked up for £30.00 and one of the reasons I moved to Pentax (I'm not a rich man!). I have managed to get some nice shots from it.
I'm interested in the f1.4 version of the lens and was wondering what the difference between the A and M versions was (aside from the obvious!)
Is everything the same save for the M being fully manual? If that was the case I will opt for the M. It is obviously more hands on, but also a bit more fun and satisfying when you get a shot you really have to work for (IMHO) and it's cheaper (I'm a Yorkshire Man, what can I say!).
Thanks for any help.
