I agree that the effect of humankind on the eco-system is undeniable however, most of the clear cutting and things of such occur in third-world countries. This being said, why is it that we think it would be a good idea to allow the populations in these areas to flourish? Would it not make more sense (logically) to consolidate our assets in the areas that are thriving and allow nature to diminish those civilizations that cannot make it. This obviously is hypothetical. I am all about all natural, organic, hormone/drug free food, small farming, Distributist economy, and as I am Catholic, helping as many people as I can. When people start talking about global climate this or that, and human impact on the world, they do not follow their logic out which would be, if you really think we as humans are fighting for survival of the planet, and we are causing ALL of these problems, then we need to REDUCE, not INCREASE humankind. I reiterate that this is NOT my stance, but just a conversation. What do you think?

I shot these with my Vivitar 135mm manual lens. I think these were taken at f4.0. I did take my flash but we were so far away from the action it made no difference. These are cropped way down. I was so wishing I had just fed my LBA and bought a good long(-er) and fast(-er) lens man.......it was a really fun day. Thanks for the compliments.

Fellow photogs I am in need of some help. My son and I are attending a sumo tournament today and I really want to get some good shots. I am a novice and have been learning. I have a 16-45 and 135 and a 50/1.7. I want to ensure my settings are straight. I have not really messed with ISO settings before. How would you adjust for lighting conditions? I am sure our seats won't be the greatest. Any insight would be appreciated.:D

It seems pretty good, at least to me. It is probably pretty elementary to Photoshop guys but I don't have the time or skills (or money) right now to go the PS route. Plus from what I have seen it is pretty easy to use. I may try the demos later and see what's up........

I use Aperture. I am not a computer guy so I found Aperture was easy to use. You can make most basic PP adjustments. There are also some really good plug-ins out there for Aperture. I have recently started focusing on PP. I would suggest as others have, try out the demos. Also try some of the plug-ins that appeal to your needs. The best part of Aperture in my opinion is the user interface and intuitiveness.

The difference between the talk in the 70's and now is that major governmental decisions today are going to be based on this baloney!

I use Aperture and am exploring some plug-ins for it. I have the Nik Silver Efex and Sharpener. My question is has anyone used the Human Software stuff? I am considering buying their bundle but thought I would check with the best source of information on the planet first. Any help will be good. Thanks.

First off I have NEVER Tipped less than %15 nor have I known anyone that makes this a habit. Are there Americans that are tight-wads when it comes to tipping, of course. But the statement that the average American is so damn cheap is a bit broad don't you think? If Americans are so cheap why is it that we donate more per capita in private charity donations than any other country in the world? Yes, when I go to a restaraunt I expect the appropriate service typically provided in a dining establishment, what's the problem? If I am going to drop $100+ to take my family to dinner I am entitled to reasonable service. If the service is less than par I reserve the right to withold a tip (although I never have, bad form in my opinion). A tip is by it's very nature above and beyond the price of the service. The problem is as stated, that the employers have found a way to reduce their expenses by not paying a decent wage. This has become institutionalized and this is the real problem. Finally, I HAVE moved to a country where tipping is not practiced and I have to admit that I like it! The meal is a little more costly however, it is nice to know what it is going to cost you without using a calculator. The question I have is this: If I order a hamburger and a drink it may cost me $10.00 with a tip of $2.00. If I order a steak dinner and a drink it may cost say $20.00 plus a tip of $4.00, was the steak twice as hard to serve? Why is a tip based on the cost of the meal?

Bruce, I aggree with most of what you are saying especially in your desire for a return to small scale (local) farming, and buying fresh, local foods. I will say though that although the agribusinesses really "perfected" their factory farms in the 80's, the cattle industry had been consolidating control for almost 8o years prior. If you have not read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair I suggest it. I hope that didn't sound snippy. It gives a peek into the corporate corruption and exploitation involved in the meat industy around the turn of the century. Sorry for the ramble but your side topic reonated with me as I have been researching self-sutainment farming and heritage breeds for a while now. I will be retiring within the next 4 years and plan on having my own organic, free range homestead.
