Photo of the Matisse made with constant sensitivity setting 1000 ASA, no flash, no tripod.
The upload here reduces the resolution from the original 10 MB each to 0.2 MB each, so 50 times less than the original. A pity.
The originals have 5472 × 3648 pixels.
Anyway, photos taken with the normal fairly low ambient lighting of museums come out remarkably well without flash and with nice color rendition.

great effort! Thanks @svenpeter and @bootcoder.
To make it compile under linux had to make just a few edits because of type warnings in printf statements and the lack of the /sys/types.h header file import. Without it it doesn't know the off_t types.

this is unrelated to the S-K2's wifi but is caused by the device that has the 'Image Sync' application installed, e.g. a smart phone or tablet, and a deficiency in Image Sync. When the device has connection to the mobile telephone network and data communication has been enabled in the Mobile Networks settings menu, the mobile network will be the default gateway for IP communications, even when data communication via wifi or bluetooth is also possible. The phone or tablet hasn't been told where to send its data and assumes the default: mobile network.
The telephone's operating system would allow an application like Image Sync to not use the mobile network gateway but rather exclusively be routed to the wifi interface of the phone. A simple routing setting on the underlying Linux level would accomplish that. But it appears that the makers of Image Sync have not (yet) thought of adding that aspect to the app.
So, until that has been fixed, there is only the option to disable 'data via the mobile network' on the device that has Image Sync on it. The device's OperatingSystem will then assume the wifi interface to be the default gateway as mostly that gets preference over bluetooth connections that may also exist.
So it is not necessary to disable the cellular network altogether, i.e. for phone calls, but the data service over it needs disabling until a future version of ImageSync will have taken care of it only choosing the wifi interface.

Am running Linux. Putting something on SOURCEforge that only has executables will not allow those that opted out of Microsoft to enjoy it.

idea 1:
has the SDXC card been initialized ? When you press the blue button with the right arrow, do the pictures show?
idea2:
only remove the SD card after the camera having been switched off. The card then is properly unmounted from the Operating System.
idea3:
connect the camera via the USB cable to the Macbook. My camera did not come with the cable but the USB cable of my Samsung Galaxy phone does the job. The camera then is seen by the PC as external storage.

as per your request, shown with an old P30. The grid in this case is a protective grid as used in front of a small fan that cools electrical equipment. But any metal grid will do does not block the air to much.

if one is really so concerned about static charge there is a way to prevent it from accumulating.
Use some metal mesh or grid in front of the opening. Connect it electrically to camera ground.
An easy way is to use the USB data cable. Its shield is camera ground.
Plug the small connector in the camera and connect the shield of the large usb connector to the metal grid.
The grid additionally acts as a protection against the VC hose entering the camera.
If any air would enter from the environment with much charge it will loose its charge when flowing through the metal grid.
Not my invention. The same principle is used the other way round in hot-air soldering stations that blow hot air onto components to solder them.
Before leaving the heating nozzle the air passes a grounded grid.

'Elegant' and 'smooth' are no design targets for something invisible when in place.
Important is reliable electrical contact, life time of the system, ease of application, and cost.

The rotative motion cleans the contacts that on the camera side are not gold plated, which saves cost and brings lifetime.
The exerted pressure is exactly determined as the fit of the bayonet is accurately controlled and thereby the distance over which the spring action works in each contact.
Being embedded in stainless steel makes the positions well defined and allows for small pitch between the contacts.

In essence a very future proof design approach.

For the K-S2 exactly same procedure as described in this thread for the K-S1 but the model specific filename needs to be:
00077860.551

File name DEVELOP.MOD and contents of both files can be same as for K-S1

K-S2 LCD Screen on/off

Did not read this in the documentation but experimentally verified that the camera magnetically detects that the LCD is closed inwards against the camera. The LCD's back light is then switched off. This saves power. Check for your self with the LCD open and on and hold a little magnet near the camera opposite to the LCD hinge side.

K-S2 wifi with laptop?

Petr,

thanks for that post! It is not very clearly explained in Pentax/Ricoh's documentation that Wifi in a K-S2 camera means that it acts as an access point.
So, if you live in an area where there is already a wifi network, e.g. to get onto the internet, and where your phones and pads have been programmed to connect to that, those devices need to be told to log on to the camera's 'own' network. The encryption method is psk2.
The K-S2 camera access point will announce as its SSID (wifi network name) something like 'PENTAX_9abcde' where the 9abcde stands for a string of six hexadecimal characters.
Quite alarming is the fact that the default password is something like 'xx9abcde' . So from the broadcast network name you can know 6 of the 8 password characters.
Or in other words. With the wifi switched on, the data in the camera are not very safe; at most 256 attempts will allow anybody to connect. The above is after the latest firmware upgrade, to version 1.01. Did not check this with 1.00. All hexadecimal characters, including the xx, are taken from the end of the MAC address. It ought to be possible to change the password, and giving the camera a catchier network name would be nice as well, but do not know (yet) how to do this.
