K-3ii to D500... Is this the right move?

I was able to try both the 200-500 and 150-600 Sport at a local shop and decided on the 200-500 for size, weight, value and sharpness (I understand there were quality variations on both, but I got lucky). Now that they just released the 500 PF 5.6 and rumored to be making a 600 PF, while neither are cheap, they certainly are much less in price, size and weight than the other options out there. Just something to consider in making your decision.

I am fortunate enough to own both systems the OP is asking about. While the K-3ii and 150-450 are a very nice combination (and no I am not bashing Pentax) as I still have 4 Pentax Bodies and many, many lenses.......

The D500 and 200-500 are in many ways far superior for what He is wanting to do. Yes, the Menu on the D500 is confusing and cumbersome at first, but after spending some time using it you learn how to adapt. As far as the picture quality between the two combinations I do not really notice one being better than the other.

But what I do notice is the D500 locks focus much faster and stays on focus for moving subjects and this is something He is interested in.

After reading about how the old manual focus lenses were good for "Beginners" (me) wanting to try Astrophotography, I decided to start with the M series 35mm 2:8.

Lot's to learn on this new photography adventure......:o

Been awhile since I posted due to "playing" with a D500 and 200-500, but I still have all of my Pentax gear and love the IQ it produces.

K-3II and 150-450.

This seagull's legs are wrapped in fishing line attached to a fishing hook in it's wing, but It could still fly.

Poll: What is your experience with Precision Camera Repair in Enfield, CT (Poll)

I am just amazed at this whole process with Precision and Pentax.

Precision received my lens into their system on June 7th, they shipped it to The Factory on June 15th.

I had to show my as* today in order to speak with a Manager only to be informed that my lens "should" be shipping back to them in 2 weeks from The Factory, then they can collect payment and ship it to me. Prior to that it was no returned
e-mails or phone calls, etc. As well as the "online information system" showing diddly squat!

Bottom Line is..... a 16 Month old DFA 150-450 that was not reading the correct focal length in camera but otherwise was working just fine with Auto Focus and everything else turned out to needing a cleaning for dust inside the "weather sealed" :hmm:lens as well as a new Auto Focus system to the tune of over $900.00..........Going to seriously consider if what I love about Pentax is worth this kind of crap going forward.

I am going to go do some shots of Whiskey now, thanks for letting me vent!

55-300 PLM question

I had the same issue with this lens that was delivered yesterday. I tried cleaning the contacts, reinstalling the firmware update on my K-3ii, tried on the wife's K-50 after updating that firmware, the camera bodies were seeing the lens as the aperture was correct and it would change when zooming in and out it just would not focus either auto or manually. After arranging for a replacement I gave it the old fashioned "slap upside the head" and viola it works now.

The only thing I can think was it took some rough bumps in transit and something got out of alignment. Pretty nice upgrade from the older 55-300 offerings.

I rented a K-1 as this thread had me drooling all over my keyboard.....I decided to mount my 1.4 TC to my D FA 150-450 and do some deep crops. WOW, the resolution and tilt screen have me sold! Pentax really did right with this Camera.

Below are before and after as shot in FF mode other than the crop and resizing.

Thanks for spending my money:lol:

When zoomed out to 450 mm the information reads 310 mm in the camera, this is on a k-3ii or k-5ii. I can back it off less than 1/16 of an inch to where the white line on the ring is now at the 0 of 450 instead of the 5 of 450 and it shows 450 mm as it should.

I have cleaned all contacts and other than being a little aggravating it does not affect quality, any ideas what could be causing this? Thought I was drinking more than normal when I noticed it last night.
