Someone already found the R5c embedded somewhere on a website so it sounds pretty legit!

Good idea! I wonder how much of this traditional stuff would come back if many of the world's internet sites disappeared. I know technically the "free market" chose the more technological way, but I am wondering if that choice came with so many hidden consequences to society that we would be collectively better off without much of the internet. (I am not saying we should get rid of the internet, only certain breeding grounds of negativity like Facebook. And I also realize it is used for nice things as well, but I truly believe the negative outweigh the positive there.)

It can't just be movie mode on the K5 because no matter what mode it's in, movie or not, the HDMI card I have does not capture anything.

Thanks! That is a very interesting product and certainly more advanced than a cheap capture card. I wonder what it is doing differently...

You are probably right. I just really don't like the wide-angle look and no webcams seem to have FOV's comparable to a 50mm lens on APS-C

My laptop does not have HDMI. ---------- Post added 08-04-21 at 01:03 PM ----------
Thanks a lot Steve! That solves it I guess. Oh well :( I guess I am out of luck. I did want to try using it as a webcam but I see this will make it impossible.

Hey guys - today I tried to output the K5 screen onto my laptop via HDMI out. Only, it doesn't work. There is no signal. I am using a USB HDMI capture device and an HDMI/mini HDMI cable.
The USB HDMI device + cable work properly. I know this because I tested it with my D500 and there is no problem there. I also tested the HDMI capture device with another mirrorless camera and that worked too.
Thus, I can only conclude that there is something off with my K5. Any ideas? Is the HDMI on it just busted? I tried all possible HDMI output modes: PAL/NTSC and all output resolutions. Nothing worked. I put the K5 in Live view in both stills and I tried Live View for video. No output at all. I repeated this test on two computers.

I don't agree at all. Good and artistic composition and knowing how to get the best lighting are still hard. People have gotten absolutely amazing shots with the Sony A1 that would be difficult on most other cameras but some people still also get mediocre shots with it as well.
I want a camera that does all the technical stuff exceptionally well so it can get out of my way and let me focus on composition and good light.

I would sell it on this forum and put it towards some glass or accessories.

If it has the same sensor as the A1, it will be a great birding camera, giving the option of full-frame when you can get that framing, yet APS-C level pixel density when you need to crop. You can use it with the 500pf for an extremely compact solution, and Nikon has mentioned in the same interview that they are considering even more PF lenses. For a traveling birding camera, it will be very hard to beat this camera in terms of weight and IQ. Of course if Canon comes out with an RF 600 f/4 DO then that will be another game changer. Personally for portability, I think I would prefer f/5.6 though.

I used to use the FA* 300 f/4.5. Great lens, and seemed to have a sweet spot around f/6.3. But actually it is worth it to upgrade your body sometimes because certain kinds of wildlife tends not to stay still sometimes you still need high ISO with fast shutter speeds.

Shooting SOOC could be a good exercise to force you to think more about exposure and settings. But in the end for many shots, they will look a lot better if you just postprocess them yourself when it comes to emphasizing tonal differences in the parts of the image you want them emphasized. Just basic stuff like exposure, sharpening, etc. can be done well in the camera, but if things like custom tone curve are better done editing. Not saying you can't get good SOOC jpegs, but in the long run you will miss out on a lot if you don't postprocess. Not everyone cares about reaching that level though, just like not everyone cares about tack sharpness, so you have to make a choice about what you do care about.

I would absolutely get this lens if I were on a tight budget. I think it will even better with the new canon R7 because of the price of the combo. For good light birds, 800mm is a whole lot of reach. That being said, I find f/7.1 to be a little limiting even during cloudy weather or forest shade, so for generalist birding, there are other way better lenses. But for someone who wants to add a little birding into their mix, especially with slower moving birds like ducks and geese sitting on rocks, this is a pretty decent option and far better than those old mirror lenses.

For me it depends on the subject. I love portraits taken wide open with a fast fifty or 85mm, even if the lenses are a little soft. For birds, I am a sharpness addict, not happy unless the feathers show moire because the lens so so sharp. hahaha

For my zoom needs I have the Tamron 150-600 G2. It has a soft lock at any focal length. It can be engaged by a slight push of the focus ring. It is actually quite stiff and the lens just does not move at all with it locked. I wish more lenses had this feature.

The 150-450 really is the best option. I have seen some good shots taken with the 120-400 but I believe the 150-450 is superior (it should be).

Nice review. I have been thinking about getting this lens for ages and I think I'll pick one up once spring comes around and there are actually things to shoot. I was particularly glad to read that the lens seems well made and that the center sharpness is great.

I think that is a little harsh on DPreview. Chris and Jordan's review videos are actually pretty decent, and don't involve much taunting or goading. Yeah, sometimes they might have bias or make fun of Pentax, and maybe there is an undercurrent of baiting on their site, but there are also a lot of knowledgeable and excellent photographers on their forums. I know their ultimate motivation is promoting Amazon sales through GAS, but I do believe a lot of the staff do a decent job and try their best with giving gear information. I mean, after all, it is a gear site and so there is bound to be a little spec-sheet bashing, but I don't see much point in getting emotional about it.

I have a Tamron 55BB 500mm f/8, one of the better 500mm mirror lenses. While in theory the image quality is acceptable under the most ideal conditions, it is exceptionally hard to focus being an f/8 lens. It can take good shots of flowers and large, slow moving mammals. It is horrendous for birds. Even with good technique, the keeper rate is like 1/30. The only reason why I've kept the lens is because I like the quirky bokeh and it is passable for video in a tight spot....though I am not sure I am going to keep it much longer.
Although 500mm is nice, you really have to know what you are gong to use it for. It is nothing like carrying around a modern supertelephoto 500mm (which I do on a regular basis), which can be used in almost any situation without a second thought.

I have seen a few posts from K70 users experiencing the black frames characteristic of aperture block failure.
I used the K-50 and had aperture block failure BTW. I am kinda sad about it as it was my first ILC camera.

I think so...COVID seems to the bottom of almost everything. Already many companies are recovering from the pandemic so I think it's likely that the camera industry will too. (By recovery here I really mean it will stabilize, but at a reduced size, but yet the financial health the companies will increase.)
