Many thanks for the information. Having 49mm is certainly more convenient for filters I have. I like the preset aperture, so all in all better associated specs than I was expecting. This is my 6th Takumar lens. I really appreciate there quality and performance.
The referenced book certainly has limited availability. Currently one in EBay (in good condition) at just under £200!

Thanks Ray. I can see the model 2 in the second page of 105mm reviews with the all black preset. The data sheet still give a 46mm thread though, where as my copy has a 49mm thread?

I have just purchased an all black Takumar 1:2.8/105 lens (1008529) with the 2 preset aperture rings. It has 8 aperture blades. The lens is in mint condition with original caps, hood and case (even has the oval 'Passed' label in place and undamaged!). So I'm very pleased with my purchase. As per the Pentax Forum lens reviews I was expecting a 46mm diameter filter thread, but the copy I have has a 49mm thread diameter. Is this usual or perhaps a transition model? I'm now wondering whether its a 4 or 5 lens element construction.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Many thanks in advance.

I've a firmware update for the K-3; I've noticed that with my remote shutter cable release attached, after changing the ISO and shooting I can't then change the ISO again until I disconnect the remote. It stays fixed on its setting. Once the remote is removed from the camera I can then change the ISO and reconnect it to shoot. Anyone else experience this strange behaviour?

The simple ones are always the best!
If like me you travel a lot and live in and out of hotels, just snag those shoe shine mitts and these can be used as nifty lens protection sacks. I even manage to get my Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and 17-50 f2.5 lenses in them! Excellent for all your vintage Pentax primes also, such as my wonderful SMC 50mm M f1.4 shown in the photo.
If you can't get them from your hotel visits, there's also a cheap supply available from ebay or hotel supply sites. They last a surprisingly long time too! The one in the photo came from a hotel in Boston 15 years ago.
For added protection drop in a couple of small silica gel packets to ensue any moisture is dealt with.

Yes, that's 42mm cropped equivalent, which is close enough to a normal field of view for me.

I've been using the forum's wealth of information for some time (generally checking out performance ratings on classic lenses) but I've not got around to using the message board.
I've owned Pentax cameras since 1990 and my latest body is the K3, which I've had only for about a month and a big jump from the K10!
My current lens kit is:
Primes:
SMC M 28mm f2.8
Tokina RMC 28mm f2.8
SMC A 28mm f2.8
SMC M 50mm f1.4
SMC M 135mm f3.5
Sigma 24mm f2.8 wide Angle II *
Zooms:
Sigma 10-24mm f3.5 HMS *
Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 HMS *
Sigma 50-200mm f4-5.6 HMS
