I'm just happy the manual isn't written in the style of Ikea.

You mean that Helios isn't doing the repair for free?? Wow, their customer service has really gone down hill! :D
And this, after Soviet spies risked it all to obtain the only known copy of the super-top-secret specifications of the K-mount! |

I had fun making this and just thought I'd share my experience and results :).
I have some lenses to sell that I wanted to take pictures of in good lighting. The problem is that today it was cloudy and raining, and it wasn't getting better for the rest of the week. So I had the idea to finally look into how to make a lightbox. This way I can take pictures any time of the day no matter what the weather conditions are.
After I looked into what it takes to make one, the next step was to find and buy the materials. It turns out the store we went to had everything we needed. Later after coming home I was looking for a box that I could use (I save most of the boxes from online orders) and found the perfect one: a B&H box .
I think it turned out great and I'm hoping it'll work well.

Thank you. I am about to retire from Kodak with almost 41 years service. The experiences of the last 20+ years have been frustrating beyond belief. Kodak was much more that film. Non photographic products I have worked on included blood analyzers that revolutionized the health care system.
I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing people over the years. Some worked to capture the "Times of our Lives", others to help make and keep us healthy and still more that helped keep our country safe. A few even died doing it.
I too love the yellow box, but to me it was a much bigger box that touched peoples lives in more ways than most of them ever realized. George Eastman built one hell of a company. He built it so good that it took over 20 years of bad management and Wall Street pressure to kill it. I have to stop now. :(

OK, so you have a Kino/Kiron-made Vivitar 28/2...
That narrows it down a bit, but you might simply provide the exact info written on the front trim ring of the lens (or you might show a pic of that).
[Or maybe none of this would actually be of help to a potential "repair suggestor", so maybe I should just shut up...]

Super cool! No going outside to find a subject for macrophotography. And it won't fly out of the field of view!

"Not sure if this is a manufacture defect or what" -- must have a low opinion of Fujinon quality control... :)

I'm gonna buy that lens and use the DNA from the bug to bring back the photogenic dinosaurs. And then I'll make a whole series of movies about it and become a millionaire. (Unless someone makes a movie like that first...).

My mother had a story at her colleague's expense. She had complained about the very high bill for a minor repair to her car. When the revised bill arrived it read: "for removing annoying rattle, 2.00. For knowing how to remove annoying rattle, 198.00"

the best part about shooting pentax is when people say "hey, that's an amazing picture, what equipment do you have?" and you reply with pentax and they promptly drop to the ground and seize up solid.
and also this forum.

There is nothing "hybrid" about it. It is a 7-element. It is simply an early production 7-element. If the IR mark is to the left of the f4 mark, it is 7-element.
You can see in the pictures of the "protruding" rear element that it is not "protruding"
7-element on left, 8-element on right. Attachment 294842 Attachment 294843
My copy of the 8-element has the highest serial number I've seen on an 8-element. Attachment 294844 Attachment 294845 |

If you can't unload them at a local swap meet or craigslist, other options include:
a) Experiment and invent your own filters by modifying them.
b) Donate them to a local artist that works glass or metal.
c) Break the Guinness World Record for a shot with stacked filters.
d) Remove the glass to create extension tubes.
e) Make them into a large custom checkers set.
f) Happy New Year! Improve your resolution this year by making a New Year's resolution not to use filters.

True, and quantity should not count as much as quality. When Mozart was my age, he'd been dead for more than decade!
