You will need to combine these 3 banners into 1 image, and then upload them here as a signature picture:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/profile.php?do=editsignature

Once uploaded, click on "Insert Signature Picture" (or just paste [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] wherever you want the picture to appear).

Embedding linked photos is also possible, but this is only available for site supporters.

Dear Board,

I joined here many years ago when I bought an ME Super. I would read from time to time, but never really participated in the forum.

That changed in the Spring of this year when I started asking questions about my new to me Spotmatic F. Since then I've managed to assemble a nice collection of M42 lenses, many came from members of this board.

I've asked many questions and they all have been answered with thoughtful answers and words of encouragement.

I belong and actively participate on several photo forums. I can't really explain the general tone of this forum, but I have to say it's high on my list of places I visit every day. Maybe it's because this is a brand specific forum, but I'd like to thank the members here for their continued encouragement and help.

Regards,

Tim Murphy

Auto ISO perimeters

When using an automatic mode such as Av, your camera controls both the shutterspeed and ISO. By changing the ISO speed priority to fast, slow or normal, you tell the camera which of the 2 things it controls to give priority. When using ISO slow, it prioritizes changing the shutterspeed and tries to change the ISO a little as possible. This is useful when nothing in your scene is moving and you want to prioritize cleaner ISO levels but longer shutters. Normal is a nice balance of the 2. Fast prioritizes changing the ISO and changes the shutter as little as possible. This is more useful when you have moving subjects and you'll take a noisier image to keep the shutterspeed up.

If you wanted tags for the K-1, K-3, and K-50, here's what you'd put in your signature:

[img]https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=300001[/img]
[img]https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=240697[/img]
[img]https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=190658[/img]

Just swap out the links between the image tags with those corresponding to the signature banner you want.

Result for the above:

The last word on.... (If you're cheap like me!)
1. Lens cleaning: Isopropyl alcohol. Works every time, never causes any problems, cheap.
2. Sensor cleaning: I've yet to get something stuck on the sensor that won't be lifted by the Rocketblower.
3. Camera bags: Fancier KingKong 40. It just works for me 99% of the time. Cheap.
4. Macro on a budget: Reverse mount adapter.
5. Just recently I've discovered stiching. So When visiting places like the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, I can really get the feel of the landscape. (Pentax K-5 photo)

This isn't about technique as much as about gear. I shoot outdoors in all conditions, have a limited budget for buying photo gear, and I lose lens covers, so I've always used UV filters to protect those lenses from scratches when carrying them on hikes, etc. But I recently discovered a Dollar Store protective device -- beverage sleeves. These keep my lenses safe even with UV filters removed, and are easily pulled off to take a shot. I posted more about this on the forum already here.

Get a tripod that you can carry with you everywhere.

The best tripod IS the one you have with you.

Having a tripod with you enables you to shoot low light or long exposure shots, gives you more chance of nailing the focus on close-ups and will make sure every shot is as sharp as it can be.

I have a 30 year old foldup metal tripod which fits in my pocket (it goes with me everywhere, along with an infrared remote), it made it possible to take this 30 second shot in Budapest after an afternoon wandering around the shops and an Xmas Market with the Wife, I couldn't have carried a full sized tripod around with me all day.

My biggest Tip?

Shoot for yourself. Don't worry if no one notices you. Keep working and keep trying new things. I have been doing photography for around 6 years now and I am in one of the biggest slumps of my life. But today? I will keep shooting. Keep trying to get better. The rest will catch up.

There is no equipment in the world that will make me pick up that camera and press that shutter. No software, no new lens that can take the place of passion, motivation and creativity.

That is my advice.

practice - get out there and shoot!

reading forums and blogs and reviews will fill your head with data and opinions, but there's nothing like leaving the house for the day with your camera and coming home with a ton of interesting shots...

compare your photos from last year to this year - see your progress and make mental notes on what you would like to improve on.... then do it!

I saw a documentary on White House Photographer Pete Souza and I adapted the way he holds a camera:forefinger below the lens, thumb on the base of your camera.

This helps stabilize your shot immensely especially while using long lens.
