Thanks to all for replies. I have gone back and looked at the photos taken with the 5 options available for playback but none show red dots or dot for focal point on the actual photo. It does show the position on the sensor used under option 2 Detailed Information Display, thanks to reduno it is on the diagram to the right of the actual photo. Not as good as the Canon which shows red dot on picture.

I recently bought a Pentax k-s2 and after using I was wondering whether it showed the focal positions used in reviewing the picture taken via a red dot? I have used both Canon 40D and Canon 70D and both these cameras have a focus conformation of the points used in the photo in playback mode. Unable to to find in manual anything equivalent.

Pentax K-s1 and K-s2 Burst Shooting

After a 3 movie tryout with the Canon 550D I will at this stage not replace my Pentax 20D. This burst feature in the Pentax 20D in JPG seems very useful, delete unwanted photos from burst from the camera, rather than requiring a computer to review each photo when format is in MOV. I have found this burst feature in the Pentax 20D rather unique and no other manufacturer seems to have copied this. The Canon EOS-1D MkIII 10 fps, perhaps the fastest DSLR, while being higher megapixel quality is only half the speed of the Pentax 20D and far more expensive. With the Pentax 20D I have found in burst mode you can capture the ball just leaving the boot of a football player, a change in facial expression after a player has just been hit by a solid tackle, or a birds claws fully extended as it just leaves a branch. In the 3-5 fps these shots can be achieved but its just pot luck.

Thanks for reply. So if you wanted to extract one image from a movie of say 3 seconds length on a Pentax K-s1 or 2 then you would have to use a movie editing program rather than a JPG editor. I have a Canon 550D which takes movies but I believe they are in MOV format they are in 1920x1080.

Pentax K-s1 and K-s2 Burst Shooting

I am considering upgrading my Pentax K20D to either of the above cameras. I have been unable to find in the manuals of both K-s1 and K-s2 the performance of the cameras for continuous burst shooting at the fastest rate.
The Pentax K20D is able:
"take pictures continuously at approximately 21 frames per second. In this mode, images are saved with JPEG Rec. Pixels set to 1.6M (1536×1024) regardless of the save format setting (p.156). The JPEG Quality set in the [A Rec. Mode] menu is used."

I can find no similar feature in either of the above 2 cameras within the manuals. I have found this feature in the Pentax K20D useful for taking sports action photos. Is anyone able to advise if the same or better features are available in the K-s1 or K-s2?

Thanks for reply. My Pentax 20D also has the fault intermittently. Went away for 5 weeks and took it with me and it starting acting up in the last week? Will watch batteries I use 1 original Pentax 2 generic. I have used the Pentax 20D also as a sports photography camera on burst mode i.e. 21 FPS at 1.5 mgpixels, works great. Will have to check specs for K-S1 and K-S2 to see if they have this same feature or better. No other camera manufacturer I can find has this burst rate.

K-5 bug - Shutter going off by itself - PentaxForums.com
The question is did anyone find out what causes the problem? Is this the end of effective use of my Pentax 20D? Should it be sold on Ebay as "suitable parts only"?

Thanks for advice from all concerned. I decided to give one of these products a try at recharging my Pentax 20D battery via the Pentax supplied charger.

150W Watt Car Inverter DC 12V to AC 220V Power Converter 2 USB Port Charger | eBay
Have taken a photograph of the setup. I found it took 2 1/2 hours to recharge a flat camera battery. The car started ok after the charge. The camera battery is showing fully charged. From the photo I connected directly to the car battery, I have tried to charge via the cigarette lighter but the small motor in the inverter makes an anoying humming sound. When I get a flat Canon Battery I will post results.

I am considering buying a USB battery charger for my Pentax and Canon cameras. They maybe more convenient than the power point models. Will they fully charge from a USB port on a desktop computer or from a car cigarette lighter jack with adaptor? They maybe able to be charged from a mobile phone charger? Does anyone have experience of these with the above mentioned cameras.

My Hanimex 200mm F3.3 is like the link below.
photos of hanimex 200mm f3.3 - Google Search
Difficult lens to use. Hard to get precise focus, probably due to the length the focusing barrel has to travel from 3 metres to infinity, about a 250deg rotation. I use it on a Canon DSLR, OM does not match up properly with Pentax.

I am unsure, the number on my Hanimex 400mm lens is 761176. I also have Hanimex 300mm No. 730329. Both are M42 mount. I have Hanimex 200mm No. 761968 with OM mount. Hanimex 75-150mm No. 752614 M42 mount. The 200mm is F3.3 and a very difficult lens to use. How can you tell the original manufacturer from the numbers, I would be interested to know?

Thanks to all for replies you have given me plenty of info to consider. When I return home I will examine these photo's on my desktop, currently on mobile phone as I write this post. From my phone that brings me to another consideration regarding my photography. A pro photographer at my club said for you Ron (my name) ask yourself where will your photos will end up. If you want to make money then you will need the best equipment, its tough game and from posts many of you are making money from photography. For me 20 photos a year in amateur competitions and sports photos on clubs Facebook pages most likely viewed on a mobile phone by the players etc. The club pro said in your current situation don't be to concerned about high quality equipment. Those that view your photos will not know the difference. Its a mobile phone world even she said I'm using my mobile phone for photography more and more.

Thanks marcusBMG. This picture is like the one you have provided a picture of less the silver coating on the focus grip. Soligor camera lens made in Japan | eBay
Lady who has replied to my questions after 2 weeks said it was used on her fathers Praktica camera which I know has m42 thread. From a picture I found on web appears lens comes apart and has its own box, one advertised does not have box. Unsure if it is complete from picture does not have tripod mount, would make very difficult to use unless generic mount could be purchased. I am a sucker for these old long telephoto lenses they do make great lenses for cricket as 400mm distance from boundary to batsman and bowlers. Just attach cable release, watch game with your eye and click at will, use view finder for initial focas point only. Have Hanimex 400mm f6.3 great lens for cricket same image as Sigma 150-500mm at 400mm, Sigma $950AUD, Hanimex $50AUD.

Fullframe or APS-C for sports or bird photography

I would like the opinions from anybody who has used both a APS-C and a full frame camera for sports or bird photography. While at my local camera club I said to other members I was considering upgrading my Pentax 20D or my Canon 550D APS-C cameras to a more recent model APS-C or a full frame camera (not unhappy with these 2 cameras just trying to improve). I have both a PK and EF Sigma 150-500mm lenses, main sports and birding lenses in bag. Two members both with Sony mirrorless 45 Megapixel cameras said full frame was the way to go. You will be able to crop far better quality images than what you do with a APS-C, in the end a cropped full frame will give you a better image cropped down to the same size image as APS-C. I should add neither of these 2 people took sports or bird photographs both were into fixed image style photography, landscapes, portraits etc. From what I have read the best sports style camera is the Canon 7D due to its burst rate and focusing speed, unsure if Pentax has equivalent, perhaps K3.
Which way to jump APS-C or FF for sports or birds?

Thanks for replies. Cleaned lens contacts with lens cleaning fluid on a lint free rag, did not touch camera contacts as Sigma 28-90mm Aspherical lens works fine. Found that Aperture ring must have an alignment problem as the A mount works by placing white dot on lens half way between A _l and f22 and not on f22. I don't know how this came about I am sure it was working normally weekend before. Have used 2 teleconverters on lens one Komura all manual no contacts at all and a 2x KAX Macro Teleplus MC7 some contacts. The KAX worked on my old Pentax FAJ 70-300mm i.e. P, TV and AV but does not work on the Sigma 70-100mm DG. Perhaps the TC have clashed with the aperture ring misaligning it? Confusing but the lens still works and will leave as is unless a simple solution is found.

Another variation of an A lens I just discovered on the weekend came about when I just recently bought a Sigma 70-300mm DG lens. This lens is to replace my Sigma 100-300mm DL lens. On the Sigma DG the A position does nothing it only gives me F - -, (looking into the aperture the same as F22) I have to turn the aperture dial to F4 to get a reading. The DL is the other way round A equals the auto setting, F4.5 is F - -. I thought the DG was malfunctioning, this F4 setting was only discovered by messing around with the lens aperture ring and finding it by accident. I cleaned the contacts 3 times with a soft cloth and started to look on internet to see if a special cleaning solution was needed to clean contacts. My question is, on a Pentax k20D is the F4 setting the correct place for Auto aperture on a Sigma 70-300mm DG lens?

Like the pic with guy tongue out. Reminds me of old days when football coaches would say if you stick your tongue out while you play you have to chew gum. You are prime target for a upper cut wack from opponents thus your teeth will bury into your tongue. Can also happen by accident as well, you coming down another player going up. Jolt puts teeth in tongue.

Thanks to all who replied. I carried out some trial shots today and I found that the lens was part auto A lens which I have never encounted before. I have 3 other A lens that have the same lens setup this is on the lens barrel as the Sigma 28-75mm but this lens only has 2 brass contacts, the other 3 lenses have 5 or 6. The Sigma 28-75mm works in P, TV, M and probably Sv and TAV but not green rectangle, with manual focus. One does not have to press down the green button to get exposure, it appears like a lens that is between the full manual and full auto lenses. I was not able to find any mention of this on the web. Next time I will have to check the brass contacts. I am not unhappy with the lens as pressing down the green button all the time can be just another step in which you can make a mistake, i.e. you forget to do so when the sun comes out from behind a cloud.

Recently I purchased the above lens, from forums it appears this lens is the closest to mine
Sigma UC 28-70mm F3.5-4.5 Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Differences are ft scale is in green print, forums is in black. On mine focus grip is in aligned locations not on an angle as the forum one is. Mine has a 10 metre distance forums one before infinity is 8 metres.
My questions are, is my lens the same as the forum and does A position mean that this lens will auto focus, mine does not when attached to Pentax K20D. Does this mean the lens is faulty or is this lens too old to work on more recent Pentax Camera? Attached is a photo of the lens plate.
