Depending on how good/well calibrated your monitor is; you may want to opt for picking the base; probably best is Pentax Natural - and creating your own. I personally don't like any of them and go with a custom profile for every Pentax cam; based of the default one of K100Super, which I thought was fantastic haha. There is no right or wrong really. Bright is the vibrant option but I find it's greens not adequate - I prefer mine a bit colder and less saturated. Natural is plain and meant to be build upon. Portrait, well, that's self explanatory - bit less contrasty; I find it useless for just about anything; vibrant is too overcooked. Have a good look and decide what you like the most or possibly based the decision on feedback from your photos using the various profiles? Just my two cents :)

Focal length and shutter speed are different (even accounting for crop sensor differences). Shutter speed is mean to affect image quality in low light, isn't it?

It most certainly does. I use a Peak Design strap, cross body, that said, it does not help the weight of all the gear when in a bag/backpack even with a well supported one, after few hours I do start to feel the weight. Not so young anymore haha and trouble with FF, some lenses are much heavier, too. But again, the IQ is worth the effort for me.

K1 is heavy. It's brilliant but heavy. If portability is important, it's a no go. If you are willing to carry the extra load, then it's a no brainer, the IQ is soooo good. Whenever I carry my backpack I curse myself - why the heck did you even consider the K1; then I come back home and I look at the images and it's all gone :p There is a third solution though. Wait for the new flagship. The proper K3II successor. It will be at least as good as the KP and most likely better in many aspects. Unless you are terribly pressed, it may be worth while waiting for.
That said, it's unlikely, to rival an FF sensor. AS someone said before me, K3 v K1 is not some miracle in regards to noise. It's better, but still requires careful post processing. I used have my auto ISO set to 100-3200 range; now with the K1 it's only pushed one stop up to 6400 at night. In the day time, when you require very fast shutter speeds, I find you can safely go a step higher. But that's it.
When it comes to astro and exposing for longer period of time, you're dealing with the sensor heating up in addition to regular high ISO stuff.
That said, K1 has a much more impressive dynamic range. I'd imagine that plays a big role in developing your RAWs and the ability to actually use lower ISO to start with so the effective argument for K! v KP becomes twice as 'heavy'.
I would not trade my K! for the KP personally. At the end of the day, the extra weight is worth it, every time.

It does, indeed; in relation to the use of Barn. It does not help my Cape Fear issues. That said, I am not your target audience and people living in that region are much less likely to perceive it the way I do.

Your reasoning is solid and hard to argue with. That said, I do not like the name. It's just not appealing to me. First, I think 'barn' is overused nowadays. It may be trendy but for a lot of people it may have an awkward association. Cape Fear is a problem as well. I understand it's a geographical name but Cape Fear Barn sounds more like a torture/BDSM venue than a banquet hall and that's not very enticing for business in my eyes ;) Maybe it's a male/female perception difference, don't know. If I knew nothing about your business, you would not pop very high on my: 'to call and check' list.
Just my two cents ;)

I don't see dslrs or other standalone systems going anywhere any time soon. Photography is much more then just a reporting/documenting tool. It's also an art. Most of us don't use crayons and pencils much nowadays yet the stationary supply industry is still alive and kicking. The market is fluid and there will be changes but it in no way means it will die. It may shrink, it may prove somewhat problematic for Canikon as they are more likely to be affected on a larger scale with average Joe's shift to phone only, but once the mentality behind the strategy changes to suit the circumstances, everything is likely to settle just fine. Pentax in Ricoh's hands is a living proof that you don't need to own the market to be profitable as long as you don't over inflate the expectations.

One more from the Firefly :)
Found one gripe with my copy. It's a pain in the neck to get a circular filter screwed on. The filter has no trouble going on a step up ring otherwise. Guess you can't have perfection for 300 Euros.

Have looked at the examples. I'm certainly no expert but, I have dropped my tele some time ago, ended up de-centered. That's pretty much how my pictures kept on coming out. Any chance you could take it to a repair shop of some sort to diagnose? Shouldn't cost too much to have it looked at?

I haven't got the slightest idea to be fair. You may be right. They very well may all do this :) For now, I use primes and my old 35-70 way more often then the kit zoom. It's just there, in case I fancy some bad weather action :)

Sounds like a bad copy OP. I have had the exact same lens for over 5 years, using it regularly for work (real estate/architecture) and pleasure (landscapes) and it has been an extremely reliable piece of kit - sharp, great colors. It does have it's issues; substantial distortion at 10mm and flare/ghosting but the first is usually easily corrected in post, the latter, is not bad at all for an ultra wide and can be used successfully for creative effects.

Nice shots Ozz...how do you find flaring on Blackstone? Your shots look good but there are some disturbing examples taken with Firefly on the Internet. Coming from Sigma 10-20mm I don't mind a 'good' flare and do like to put it to some creative use, but I do have limits on what is acceptable. Would be super grateful if you could share your thoughts. Cheers!

I actually must agree with the OP. I find the willingness of the community to overlook this highly surprising. I have never owned a lens that would vignette so much. I don't consider it OK. It's not OK. The lens is affordable but hardly 'cheap'. Why is it that people are so keen on accepting 'faults' as part of the deal and happily paying for them? The vignetting coupled with the completely unacceptable distortion levels at the wide end make this lens a rather poor buy. In camera lens correction slows the camera operation massively. It should not be assumed everyone will shoot in RAW either. Contemplating returning mine despite having purchased it at a very attractive price.

Reasons I held onto the K3II
1. Backup
2. FPS
3. Longer reach without the necessity to crop
4. Lighter weight /smaller package overall
5. Lens investment
6. Sentiment
I think both formats have their place. It's highly situation and specific to the photographer. I can't imagine not having a backup body. Every now and again I make use of the high fps on the K3II, the K1 is just painfully slow. I was aware of it when purchasing but it does not make it easier to accept. Instead of stressing, I can just use a body that's suited for purpose. Occasionally, I want to go light, and light K1 is not. Than there are the unique lenses that are just made for APS-C and why compromise on size and in some cases even quality, when you can just use them with a body they were meant for?
And last, but not least....I get terribly attached to my Pentax bodies. One day, some of them will maybe go. That day is not now.
The only rational reason to get rid of APS-C when purchasing an FF, to me, is money.
We're all different though, you may very well find yourself not using the old one, ever.

First one is the best. I would maybe give it very light touches here and there but would try to leave the mood and shadow/highlight ratio as it is, cos your exposure seemed spot on to start with. None of the other options presented here do the original image any justice in my humble opinion. Mostly 'overcooked' :)

Does not work for me at all. The first thing that stands out when you look at the photo is the girl's legs - the bright red shorts and the light just below her knees. Neither the face, nor the light. I love a good flare, but here it achieves nothing. The light on the model is not very flattering...neither is her pose. The flare is not very 'flary', it's more of a ghost/fog effect like someone already mentioned. The sun is high up in respect to the model, and the angle from which you took the photo does not help resulting in more of a top lighting than back lighting.

Frankly, there is no such thing as a landscape lens. Landscapes can be shot with any lens. No exceptions. As for an all around prime, on APS-C, I find a 35mm ideal personally and the cheap, plastic 35mm is simply unbeatable value for money. Unless you can go for one of the pixie dust primes, than there is nothing this little baby can't do.
