I just got a Pentax 31mm Limited... brilliant lens. I'm wondering if I should just hold off on a wide/ultra-wide. The 31mm to see seems more like a "normal" since I think of the 50mm as more of a short telephoto. This is on full frame.

Great photos guys! I was talking about full frame. I don't like the perspective that crop offers. I just ordered the FA 31mm for my K-1. I think that has a wide-normal along with my D FA 100mm Macro will cover most of my needs unless I convince myself thatI need something else... lol
Since this thread is going pretty well, here's a different question. Who's used rectangular filters on these primes? I have a Cokin Z-Pro system that I've used with larger lenses before. It seems absurd to do this with these primes.

So, what is a better normal lens, the 31mm or the 43mm LTD for someone who doesn't like the perspective ve of a 50mm since it's too long?

I've considered the Samyang, but what about filters. I have 100mm filters that I'd like to be able to use, but I also don't want to spend money on another holder.

If I were to go to that wide, then I'd probably couple it with the Pentax 31mm as a "normal" lens. What annoys me though is that the wider you get, the weirder/non-normal the filter requirements get. Like that Laowa has a special adapter... Already have a Cokin Z-Pro and some ND filters that I'd want to use and don't want to invest in yet another adapter. But then there's the D FA 15-30mm which has its own filte-related issues. -__-

Nevermind... Just ordered the Domke Chronicle Black/Sand. I did a mockup of the interior dimensions on a couple of sheets of paper and found that it'd be perfect.

For your picture, it looks like I'd be able to easily fit a K-1 with a normal/wide angle prime (the 31mm and 43mm are ones that I'm thinking here), a second K-1 with a short telephoto prime (77mm), and a longer lens or two (depending on if I want to stack or not). This is if I place the bodies vertically with the lens facing towards either pocket and the bag is divided into three more equally sized compartments.

So, this is the other thing... I want to be able to carry good amount of gear, but not too much. I'll never carry too much gear given my shooting style. I usually just want/need 2 bodies with ultra/wide and normal/short telephoto primes attached and a third lens for easy access. That third lens is usually the D FA 100mm Macro. When it's for birding or where more reach is required, then it'll likely be the DA* 200mm or 300mm.
The question is which is more suitable and do I want to have my laptop with me, probably not, but I"m having a hard time deciding.[COLOR="Silver"]

That looks like an incredible bag. I'm also considering the Domke Chronicle--the black+sand version is $170. It doesn't have a laptop compartment, but I seem to like it better since it's not as long. Any suggestions here?

Any chance that you have a couple of pictures with it loaded with your gear?
I have an STM Judge Brief on the way, which is how I'd carry my laptop anyway. Now, what I need to decide is whether I want the option to have my laptop with me in the bag or not. If I don't, then I'd probably choose this bag. Otherwise, I'd go for the Domke.

Those pictures are definitely helpful--seems like this bag will be in the running for me. Which photo were you referring to that accommodated a notebook? I'm pretty sure this bag won't fit my 15" MacBook Pro.

I never thought about using a sling. My issue is that I always like to travel light. So, I listed the maximum amount of gear I ever see myself carrying. Though, I think 90% of the time, I'd carry just carry a Pentax K-1 with an ultra-wide and the other K-1 with the 43mm and throw in the 100mm or a short telephoto like the 77mm for good measure.

Regarding the Tenba, what about tripod connections?
Also is the Tenba too big? That's my one concern. I like bags that are compact. Honestly, I probably don't even need a laptop slot because I have an excellent case on the way for that.

I'm currently looking for a messenger (or other bag) that would eventually at least hold a Pentax K-1 with a ultra/wide lens (Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone), a second Pentax K-1 with a normal lens (either the Pentax 43mm f/1.9 Limited or Pentax DA* 55mm f/1.4), the Pentax D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro, a medium (Pentax DA* 200mm f/2.8) or long (Pentax DA* 300mm f/4) telephoto, and some assorted filters. The ability to carry my laptop (MacBook Pro 15) is optional--I do have a really good shoulder bag for that.
I've currently looked at the Domke Metro Messenger and the Peak Design Everyday Messenger. They both look nice, but the latter just looks like a gimmick. Any suggestions about these or other bags? I currently have a Manfrotto Redbee-210 that I plan to sell (feel free to message if you're interested). It was used once on a trip to Italy, but I personally found it too big and uncomfortable to have that big of a backpack on at all times.

I've owned the:
DA 16-85mm
D FA 28-105mm
DA* 16-50mm
DA* 60-250mm
As well an assortment of other zoom lenses that I can't remember. I usually end up using them like primes at one or the other end of the range partly because some of the focal lengths in the middle are just not naturally appealing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! This is encouraging. So, what do you guys recommend for ultrawide lenses, especially on full frame? I'm thinking of picking up one of the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower ultrawide lenses unless I can be persuaded to grab a Pentax DA 15mm Limited for use on the K-1. I've used it on the K10d took some of my best pictures with it.

I'm shuffling around some of my gear and am wondering who on here is a prime only or mostly prime only photographer?
Long story short, I've noticed that I enjoy using prime lenses a lot more than zoom lenses. I also don't use zoom lenses to their full potential, as I either step back and forth to adjust the frame while almost always just using the ends of the range on the zoom. I'm wondering if it's possible to get by with just primes. I suspect it is, and for some applications like macro work, they're really the only choice.

I did do some tests of the 16-45mm in low light even with ISO 3200 and it seemed to do fine. So, it might be the case that I'll just stick with it.

Regarding subject, I was looking for something to use in low-light/night time in general, not for any particular subject matter. Though, I'd expect it to be a combination of indoor shots for gatherings and a few out in the open that resemble street photography with or without people.
Another question is this, say that I have the following two lenses, would they be usable at all in low-light?
Pentax 16-85mm
Pentax 55-300mm

Hi everyone,
I'm currently in the process of acquiring new camera equipment. I generally shoot landscapes and macros. Besides this, some wild life and a few portraits and general family style shots. Currently, I own a Pentax K-5 with a Pentax 16-45/4 and Pentax 55-300 WR.
Sometimes, I end up taking shots in low-light or at night. For landscapes and subjects that are still, a tripod works really well. What kind of glass do you recommend for low-light or night shots where the subject isn't still? I'm not big on using the built-in or an external flash, which is why I'm asking about this. I was looking at the DA 35/2.4 to experiment with, but it doesn't seem like it's all that faster than what I currently have, which works well in most circumstances.

I got the 55-300mm WR for $281, pretty sweet deal I think. So, K-5, 16-45mm and that lens and It think I'm covered for my trip. I'll probably add in a macro later on.

Thanks for all your feedback. I was able to get a good deal on a Pentax 16-45mm f/4. It cost $165 in like new condition. Since the wide angle was important to me, I went for it instead of other lenses. The range should cover most of my needs. Though, I'm also trying to round out my kit and wanted to ask which additional lenses you guys think I should get. I was thinking of a telephoto zoom and a prime to use in low light. These are some that I'm considering:
Pentax 55-300mm WR
Pentax 50-200mm WR
Pentax DA 50mm/1.8
Pentax DA 35mm/2.4
Selecting the Pentax 50-200mm WR and the Pentax DA 50mm/1.8 gives me the cheapest option. Depending on which lens I choose, I may able to only afford one, so value is important as well.
