Hi! I am looking to travel to Maasai Mara and intend to shoot the big cats and all the wildlife action around. I have a Pentax K5 II camera. Which lens would be perfect for this trip?
Your suggestions are always welcome. Thanks!

Any recommendations on a good quality lens for Astrophotography and landscapes? I recently bought a Samyang 35mm F1.4 but I find it is not as wide.
Your inputs will help me immensely. Thanks!

Hi! So I'm confused between Sigma 30 1.4 and Samyang/Bower/Rokinon 35. 1.4. I don't mind the manual focus on the latter. The image quality is important to me and I would like to try shooting landscapes (starry nights). Also, on a plus side which of them provide better bokeh?
Your inputs are much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello everyone.. thank you for your comments so far.. you've all been very helpful.. I think the analysis on the reflection of the sunglasses as those spots was brilliant. It is so obvious to me now!
Yes, I think it could be the filter too because I don't see that problem with my other lens. This is the only lens I had the polarizer filter on. I was trying to keep the haze low with the filter but it was leaving some ugly spots in my images.
In any case, I ran the pixel mapping program on my K5ii just to be sure. I will try shooting today without the filter.

I had my polarizer on. But it's B+W. I thought those are high quality ones :p

So, I'm getting some weird bright spots when I shoot with my HD 70mm and Pentax K5 II. Can you please tell me what it is? And how to get rid of them?
I've attached pics.
Thanks!

This is awesome stuff! Thanks for the recommendations on the places. We are actually looking at stuff to do there and I think you've given us some good pointers. Ek Balam looks interesting for sure..

That's an awesome project! Can you please post a few pics after the game? I would love to see how Pentax fares for cricket, given that it is my favorite sport!
You maybe shooting a lot of the sky as the Black Caps love to see the ball travel up in the air!

I will be visiting Cancun and yes I just plan on enjoying the beaches and water activities. I do hear that Tulum (just south of Cancun) is scenic too with Mayan ruins. So I do want to take photographs there. As per suggestions so far, I think I should be okay with my kit lens (18-55) for general outdoor stuff and 50 1.7 for low light within the ruins. I am banned from buying any major lenses by my home minister for this year.. so you know how it is ;)
I will leave behind my 10-20 and 70mm.

Hahaha yes I don't mind multiple cheap lenses if single walk around lens won't do.. I don't want to lose anything expensive. Besides I do have $500 insurance which should cover my K5..

Perfect! I'm going to look up the Tokina 80-200. Is there a similar legacy lens with standard zoom?

I do plan on leaving touristy areas.. In that case do you think the 18-55 would be good enough? I find that it is good with closeups and long exposure landscapes.. Otherwise the sharpness and focus is lacking..

Thanks for the suggestions.. I do find the Tamron lenses very appealing for their performance/value.
I am going to Cancun and the weather there can be pretty wet.. I wish Tamron lenses had WR :)

Hi I am looking for recommendations for a good travel lens for a trip to Mexico. I want to travel light but at the same time be able to produce sharp quality images. I am looking at being able to do street photography, a few on the beach and ofcourse general landscape.
I have a K5 II and the kit lens (18-55 DA WR). I also have a Sigma 10-20 and HD 70mm.
Please let me know as your recommendations will shape my decision in buying the right lens. :)
(p.s. I was looking at DA 16-85mm for its WR but it is really expensive!).
Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I am going to test the lens for the next few days or so to see if the images look alright. I was considering a trip to Henry's and getting it checked there as well. Let's see. I appreciate all your comments.

I just tried the flashlight test. I tried shining it in an angle. I could only see some dust and nothing else.

I received the lens today. The seller does have a return policy so I can always return if the lens is not alright. Any suggestions on how to test the lens? One was to shine the light using a flashlight through the lens.
Please let me know.
