I think you can still use Luminar 2018 with that license, check your account and see if its there. If it isn't contact customer service. I loved 2018 as well and have gone back to using it. Hoping they fix Luminar 3 but not holding my breath.

I think it did get rid of it, but nowhere in the manual did it say what that icon was or what it does, certainly nothing about it turning off the blinking red light, absolutely nothing. And its possible I turned it on accidentally along with who knows what else trying to get the camera to do something that written in gobbledygook in the manual. Still not sure what it was for but at least its off. Thanks! now to tackle the rest of the list...

"First...regarding the blinking red light. That indicates that remote shutter activation using a remote release is turned on. To turn it off see page 121 in your manual. Leaving it on is a battery drain."
I've got the k-30 but page 119 of the manual I found the chapter Shooting with a Remote Control Unit. The next chapter on 121 is continuous shooting. The chapter with Remote in the title looked promising. After far longer than I like to admit, I figured out I'm supposed to press the button to the right of the center ok button. This brought up a screen with 5 icons across the top including one that says remote control. I canhighlight the icon for remote control and it then shows a little green arrow pointing down with what appears to be another identical icon and one next to it that says 3s. I don't see anything that would turn this off. I tried hitting ok for both plain icons and the light kept blinking. There is no off choice. And I never purposely turned this on, it just started blinking.

stevebrot, thank for those detailed steps, I think it will help to have it broken down in outline form. I've printed it off and as soon as I have time will go through and apply it step by step.

I agree with both of you! I thought I had it set up to go but then I tried an older lens, same mount as newer ones, and I get a flashing F- -. Read up on that and thought I had it figured out but tried it and it blinks and won't take a picture just like before. Also tried it with an m42 adapter and my original 1967 kit lens and it would only take a picture if I set it to auto. I recently got a nex 6 to have something light to take around with me. That one I got set up and it works with all the lenses-new pentax, old pentax, m42, all with the appropriate adapter. That camera shows the F- - too but I can set the aperature and it will take the picture. They are both set on spot meter and whatever it is metering it takes a decent picture if the settings are right and if it will let me take a picture at all. The pentax also has a blinking red light on the grip when the F-- is flashing.

I changed to manual focus and then the shutter dial seemed to turn farther-down into the usual range. The 2"-30" must have been really long exposures and the pictures were awful, and not in a good way.
No iDon, I didn't forget. To forget I had to know it in the first place and this is the first I've heard about it. So I should find it and turn it off? Is there a list somewhere of what should be turned off? Or on?
Pakinjapan, I've been playing a little bit with post processing using Affinity Photo and its one of the things that's exciting about digital photography. And dodge and burn actually does dodge and burn!

Pepperberry Farm, you hit the nail on the head, the darn camera takes good pictures in spite of me. I guess a lot of people want that. Whats the world coming to?
TwoUptons, I still have my spotmatic but I find the possibilities of digital exciting and don’t want to go back to film. I just want at least most of the same control I had with film.
I agree with those that say go to manual, its figuring out how to do that that’s not as straightforward as I thought it would be. I didn’t get this camera new and I hope I would have had the good sense to chuck everything but who knows? I didn’t fully realize how confusing all the auto stuff was until I took out my old spotmatic and went through the steps to take a picture. That’s what made sense but now I have to figure how to do it on digital.
I thought it would be fairly simple from turning the dial at the top to M. I set my ISO to 400, like my old Tri-X. I put it on spot metering. I found the dial at the back to the right of the viewfinder controls the f stop. Shutter speed is controlled by the dial on the front just forward of the on/off switch. So since when is shutter speed measured in inches? Either I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole or I’ve done something wrong somewhere.
I really appreciate the help, I’ll be going through the steps mentioned and see if I can find the places I’ve gone wrong.

When I got back into photography a couple of years ago I was pleased to see that Pentax still made cameras. I got my Pentax Spotmatic during Christmas vacation 1967. I was a High School freshman and it rarely left my hands for the next decade. It was manual, it let me take bad pictures and I loved it. So I've been wrestling with this k-30 for a while, trying to sort out the few things I want from the bazillion things it wants me to have and I'm about to throw it. I can put it in manual, I can set aperture, f-stop and iso and set for spot metering. And still the only freaking photo I can take seems to be perfectly exposed! I'd like to take a picture with part perfectly exposed and part in shadow but it won't take the picture. Even a bad picture would let me figure out what to do to correct it(and without using film, developing film and printing which is an advantage).
I have even checked other brands of cameras and different models of pentax but they all brag about how much unwanted crap they want to give me. Is it impossible to set it to those basic controls? Or is there some (incredible convoluted) button I need to press?
Any help would be appreciated,
Ann

I am looking at buying a mirrorless camera, likely a Sony a6000 as I need something smaller and lighter. I have seen that there is an adapter so I could use Pentax lenses on it and I checked amazon. It seems the reviews are split between "It's wonderful!" and "Its stuck on my camera and I can't get it off!" Has anyone used an adapter successfully and if so what brand. I am going to be selling my Pentax cameras but might keep a couple of the lenses if it was possible without risking the stuck thing. Thanks,
Ann

I'm sorry to post an off topic reply but I need a little help with the forum. I have found the daily threads to post the daily picture in and figured out how to do that and found this thread. When I first checked in there were posts I received notifications for that were comments on my previous photos. Where are they? Having clicked on them they no longer show up as a notification and I have looked for them in the daily threads and here but can't find them. I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring them, I really am a technological slow learner.

I want to join in too! I used to do a lot of photography but that was years ago and it was film. I'm finding quite a learning curve with digital but one step at a time...
I'm using a K-30 and pentax DA 50mm f1.8.
