K-x: focus permanetly stuck on MF (manual focus) & Shake Reduction stuck Off too

Am suffering a similar issue. When the focus switch is in the MF position all is well, but when I flick it down to AF autofocus does not engage, although the focus ring is stiff so I assume the pin is engaged? Often when I move the focus switch down slowly from MF towards the AF to around half way down the AF symbol shows up on the camera, however when I partially press the shutter button down to pre-focus the whirring noise is made by the AF motor, but the focus ring does not move, or if it does it 'grabs' at it stutteringly and usually fails to focus; which then made me think that the focus pin is not mounting into the lens properly after all. I've checked the focus pin with the lens off and it seems to drop down normally when flicking to MF and pops up when flicking back down to AF. I've tried mouting different lenses, turning camera on and off but have yet to get in working. All other functions are working as normal.

Thanks fo the feeback guys, is appreciated. I shall go through all the 3rd party lens reviews and see if I can find a match, I didn't find any match from a net search of 28mm f2.8 lenses so far, but probably just need to keep looking longer! For better or worse (quite possbly the latter) I went against most of my better judgement and bid on the lens, even though it was untested by the seller who called it a 50mm Pentax lens. Someone call the men in white coats. lol!

It's the one THoog linked to. Which seems to indicate the maker is DIA, not a maker I've heard of, even as a 3rd party/house name etc, but then I've not been 'at it' long! Usually though there's something to be found online about such companies, but nothing I could find.

Yes that looks like the one! Came across it by chance and like most things which you don't recognize or find understanding of leaves that niggling intrigue in your mind until you find out!

It had Asahi on the rear lens cap. It was marked down by the seller as a Pentax lens, but they weren't a regular lens seller and there were some inaccurasies in the discription as well which made me doubt the rest of it! The front lens cap was marked DIA as well.

I have recently started dipping my toes into the older lens market, researching and learning about the wide and various manufacturers who made lenses for Pentax cameras, a slow but most enjoyable process! Around a week ago I came across a lens I can find no review, photo of or even mention dispite the usual forum check and 'insert name of generic internet browser here' internet searches I've found nothing which matches. The lens in question was marked as a 28mm f2.8 and had 'DIA Auto MC' on the front. It was marked as made in Japan. I've probbly missed something quite obvious, so apologies in advance as a vintage lens novice!

K-x Power Problem?

Thanks for sharing your experiences guys. Was out shooting yesterday, screen went all funny again with the lines, camera unresponsive. I opened the battery compartment door slightly, cutting the power supply, closed it back up again and it went on without fault for the rets of the day, around 50 shots. Ref: battery type I have tried selecting both Auto & Nimh, doesn't seem to alter how the camera performs. Will try getting a set of non rechargeable non Energizer batteries and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for replying. Sounds like it isn't a battery issue then. I have to take the batteries out sometimes too to turn it off, but often if I turn it straight back on it will still flicker and I'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 shots before it freezes up again. Some days however I can get a dozen or 2 dozen shots where everything seems fine, then it's suddenly stops again. It seems to go wrong more when in playback mode for reviewing captured images, so I've stopped it going to review after taking an image, but that only works sometimes however. I can only imagine that playback mode requires more power and this is where the camera's fault lies, somewhere to do with not being able to maintain a steady high enough power outage; but that feeling is from someone who is far from an electrician!
