Photography is a great facility to remind us to see what's around us, even when we don't have the camera in hand (especially for those times when we wish we did have a camera ready).

I just spotted this now. Which part of the country will you be in (If you're not here already)? There's plenty to take in wherever you'll be :)

Poll: How often does memory cards break?

I've only used approx 6 cards and had one failed card, losing approx 50 shots out of several thousand - still really annoying when it happened though as I lost some photos of a trip to China that I'm unlikely to repeat. It was 5 years back and I think it was a low end sandisk SD card. A local Fuji lab tried to rescue the images but couldn't get anything back. No problems since then but I usually go for high quality cards & I'm paranoid about backing up images.

I'm still getting my ahead around some of the features in CS4, it'll be a while yet before I look at upgrading. I like the way RioRico put it on the human perspective. I'm all for using the tools available if it gets it to the way I want it to look. I still think you'd need a decent image to start with though - you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (at least not until CS6?).

Count me in when this gets to Europe (especially when it gets to Cork)! :)

Hopefully it doesn't get stuck with the volcanic ash clouds slowing down the transport.

Pentax K200D Silver - Specs

Very happy with the k200d - it's been a very solid camera over the last year, with still plenty for me to learn how to handle and no plans to upgrade for years to come.

Agree that faster burst mode would be nice - dropping from raw to jpg helps if you just need the shot but you lose some of the post-processing ability.

The A/F depends on the lens and the camera - the da* 16-50 is pretty fast but if the lens depends on the camera to drive the focus (like the da 55-300 for reach), it's a little slower but still good. Most of the newer pentax lenses switch seamlessly from manual to A/F so very easy to get in the right range of focus, or fine tune focus before taking the shot.

Very impressed with battery life - I rotate a few sets of rechargeable AA's or a set of high end non-rechargeables if I'm somewhere that I don't want to bother with changing batteries. Also impressed with the quality of the build compared to other cameras in the same price-range - metal frame, water/dust resistant etc (needs same features on lens to be entirely weather resistant).

For anyone who sent their lens back for replacement, how many replacements is it taking before you got a good one? Mine is off at the right edge but tolerable if I don't need to use the right 10% of the shot and crop it out.
whole frame: Attachment 20889
crop of centre: Attachment 20891 crop of right edge: Attachment 20892
If I ignore the edges completely, the lens works just fine:Attachment 20894

replying to your post - looks very similar to mine but in reverse - mine goes out of focus on the right side. Pity - otherwise, the lens seemed to work very nicely.

I got mine from a website in Germany - serial 9022891. It seems to be close but not quite right. It loses focus on the right side of the image. These are at F8 at 28mm.
left side: Attachment 20815 middle: Attachment 20816 right side: Attachment 20817
left side: Attachment 20818 right side: Attachment 20819

I'm tempted to send it back to see if I can get a better copy - what do you think?
