Yep, that's the assembly I bought, EXCEPT mine has a white solenoid bobbin. I don't know if the color of the bobbin matters. What I do see is that the magnet has been moved on this solenoid, too. Compare this photo to one of the earlier ones of the solenoid and you'll see how the placement of the magnet has changed.

I bought the complete replacement assembly with the white solenoid from USCamera for $35. Anyone replaced the whole assembly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Rick ---------- Post added 10-02-18 at 07:26 AM ---------- I just compared the new assembly with the photograph of the solenoid on page one of this discussion. The difference in the new board (mfg date of 9/9/2017) is the neodymium magnet has been moved up so that there is a 1.5 mm (eye ball measurement :)) gap between the magnet and the plastic coil bobbin. This seems to support the argument that the fix reduces the magnetic force drawing the plunger in.

Count me in. I'd love to have the 55 to 300mm lens for my K50. Good luck to all.

I took my K 50 on a flight along the Arkansas River to see the autumn colors and captured this image just north of the town of Oxford, KS.

Thanks, Guys. I was examining the Sigma lens and found I got an extra bonus. It had a Hoya UV(0) filter attached and it's the same 62mm diameter as the Coastar. Unfortunately I've tapped out that DAV store and I haven't found any more lenses at their other locations here in Wichita. I should probably lay off for now anyway if I want to keep my wife happy (I bought an new LED light fixture for the hallway and installed it before she got home from work. If I paint the hall tomorrow I should have enough points stored up to go see Fifi a week from Saturday.)

I found a Sigma 70 - 250 Zoom Macro lens at the DAV this afternoon in like new condition and bought it and a Coastar f2.8 28mm prime for $25 with my senior discount.
The Coastar is a K mount and went right on my K50 and seems to work just fine.
The Sigma is an M42 mount, but for a Praktica. It's not a highly rated lens but what the heck. Which is the best adapter to attach permanently to this lens? I found the Fotodiox adapter on Amazon for $13. Can I disable the spring so that it stays with the lens? Should I use a drop of Locktite 242 thread locker (the service removable type) What do I do about the aperture pin, attack with my Dremel?
Thanks folks,
Rick

The camera chose to use ISO 21600 and f11 at 1/4000. It then took three shots in a burst and processed them afterward (a progress bar comes up on the screen and the camera is locked up while processing the three images). The only thing I changed was the amount of the step between shots. If my notes followed my shooting, not always perfect, this one was at +/- 3. Hadn't thought of image stabilization as a problem. If I get the chance again, I'll turn it off next time.

Had a beautiful CuNim off to the north last evening so I thought it a good time to try the HDR function of the K50. The camera was mounted on a tripod and a remote release was used. I tried all three +/- settings and all the shots came out with the same image displacement. Is there something wrong with my camera or was I just asking too much of it?

Thanks for all your help everyone. We just got back from errands and the answer was waiting for me. Enabling the custom aperture setting did the trick. After dinner I get to take the Vivitar out for a drive. Woohooo!

Okay, some quick work with the Dremel and the extra long flange is now pretty much identical to the 50mm Pentax lens. The Vivitar lens now goes on the camera but I cannot get the camera to take a picture. i have it set in manual focus mode and I've tried M, Av, TAv, and Sv. I get a flashing F_ _ at the bottom of the view finder which I take to be that somehow the camera isn't getting aperture information? I wish the camera had a menu setting for WTFO. :-}

I was given some lenses that fit a K1000. The 50mm 2.0 fits the K 50 but the focus mechanism is broken. A Makinon 80 - 200 mm Auto zoom fits the K 50. A Vivitar 70 - 210 mm Macro Focusing Zoom (No. 77403515) the K1000 but doesn't fit the K 50. I have not tried to take a shot with any of the lenses that fit the K 50 for fear the mirror might hit the back of the lens. Is there a simple answer to what Pentax bayonet mount lenses fit the K 50?

Reading photography books and trying to learn my new K-50 at the same time. Does the K-50 have a mirror lock up feature? If so, what does Pentax call it and where do I find it, in the book or the CD? I spent a half hour or so with the book and couldn't come up with anything referencing the mirror except for a parts breakdown identification.
Thanks, folks,
Rick

For six years I had a Fuji bridge camera. It was a step up from the Nikon pocket camera I had before it and I learned a lot from it. For three years I lusted for a K-30 and then transferred my affection to the K-50. Everything came together a few weeks ago and I bought a shiny red K-50 with the 18-55mm kit lens. I am absolutely blown away by it. What I struggled to do with the Fuji is easy now. I truly enjoy having manual focus. It makes all the difference to be able to take control of the image with it. The attached photo was made in bright sunshine, hand held with the lens set to 18mm and a Vivitar Series 1 CPL (polarizing) filter attached. The camera info says I shot it at 1/150 and f7.1. I really love this camera.

I lusted after a K30 then transferred my affection to the K50 and finally, FINALLY, after three years of saving bought my shiny, red, K50 a week ago. I love having manual focusing again and the autofocus is just amazing, too. Ziggy the hangar dog approves.:)
Looking forward to years of fun with the K50.
