I think the color science contribution is underappreciated. I had a Sony DSC-F717 which was groundbreaking in many ways, but color accuracy was its Achilles heel. Since that camera didn't offer RAW output there was no ability to test alternate conversions. I haven't heard any complaints about Sony colors since the acquisition.
I agree that nothing recognizable from Pentax would have remained after an acquisition.

The market for Adaptall lenses is probably 1/1000 of the market for K-mount. If the chances of getting new K-mount lenses is zero, the chances of getting Adaptall lenses is even lower.
About half my lenses are from Tamron and Sigma. If that wasn't enough to convince them to keep making more, there's not much more I can do.

Lenses used to be "forever", but I think that's changing. The newer ones have a lot more electronics and motors than the old ones, so expect them to wear out like anything else.

Definitely Pentax has a problem with limited resources compared to the rest of the camera industry.
But a "refresh" of something like the 16-50 involves a whole new optical formula. It's not something you can crank out in a couple of months.

The reason for the huge gap between the K-3 II and the K-3 III is that Pentax wasn't originally planning a K-3 III when the KP came out. I believe they felt everyone moving on from the K-3 series would be happy with a K-1, and did not anticipate the backlash from people who felt they needed an APS-C flagship.
I too agree that the K-70 and KP will be replaced by a single model in the future. There's simply not enough room in pricing or features to have two models below the K-3 III.

I'm not a major stressor of batteries. If I start the day with a full charge, I really appreciate knowing I'll get through the whole day without having to think about the battery.

We don't know everything about their testing methodology though. Do they keep the camera off most of the time so it stays cool, or do they let it run hours on end?

If Pentax is switching to a new processor, that would explain the delays. I'm sure the software from one camera generation to the next has only undergone minor changes, but switching processors would probably require something more major.
The last time they used a Samsung sensor was the K-7. The major change from the K-7 to the K-5 was replacing it with a Sony sensor, and I'm sure you remember how that turned out. Do you think Samsung has improved greatly since then?

I'm one of those people on the other site.
There's really nothing wrong with the partnership, it's the pricing policy difference that galls. Evidently both lenses have the same list price, but Tokina is much more free with their discounts. As a practical matter, it means you're better off getting another camera than a Pentax if you want the lens.
The pricing policy ties nicely into your other comment. Pentax is keeping a tight grip to maintain their list prices, but usually that's done to keep the margins healthy for B&M stores. But Pentax doesn't have any.

You have to be careful whether the figure includes or excludes the battery.
I'm torn on the subject of camera weight. On one hand I appreciate the denseness of Pentax cameras, on the other I find even my K-7 to be a little much for a full day's outing.

I sometimes find it handy to use a collapsed monopod as a kind of handle, when I'm too rushed or in an awkward position to extend it properly.

Pentax did use a Samsung sensor at one time, for the K-20D and K-7. The Sony sensor was far superior as proved by the K-5.
Pentax has learned how to get the best from the Sony sensors, I would not automatically assume that a Samsung sensor would be an improvement.

The only problems I have with the K-1 is that it's too big/heavy and too expensive. Even if the frame rate and buffering and resolution are increased so that in crop mode it matches the K-3ii, those would still be problems. Same if they came out with a 24MP FF. But maybe Pentax doesn't care about people like me.
