Real or fake?🤔 Lens Leitz Elmar 3.5/50 mm

Also, the typo "optischen" on the lens cap pretty much gives it away ;)
Cant read the rest but there is no word combination where optischen would make sense.
"Optische Werke Ernst Leitz Wetzlar" was an early company name but as far as i know they never printed it on any cameras or lenses.

Reminds me of fake ebay- Leica IIs with ridiculous national-socialist sounding and gramatically wrong inscriptions directly from google translate

Mmh i too cant really understand why you used center weighted exposure on this complex lighted example (Amsterdam?). I always use multi / matrix exposure and can not remember any exposure problem apart from very slight adjustment in post just for personal taste..

My suggestion would be: Forget anything you learned from your DSLR and from the Nikon world because the GR is neither of those. Its not inferior but just different. Try to rely more on auto-whatever because it works absolutely well in my opinion. At least that works for my style of using the GR as a small, light and FAST travel camera - compose, snap, perfect.
Fiddling with ISO and spot metering is reserved for my DSLR (Which i would hate to use on a city trip).

Edit: Unfortunately i have zero experience with flash on the GR but this might be a thing that really isnt too great if i remember correctly.

Attached are some of the first test shots with my GR when it was new.

I set the date, put it in P mode and thats about it. Not really great pictures but thats not the cameras fault. Very true to reality though, especially the indoor shot.
Made some 33x48cm / 13"x19" test prints and they look great qualitywise.

Did you buy it used? If so perform a factory reset, just put it in P, change nothing else and make some test shots. There are tons of options that can affect your images.

Edit: Your descriptions sound like you bought a GR digital ;)

An issue with artefacts in shadow areas

Here's How Flickr's Image Compression Has Changed Since Early 2014

Flickr does compress all images like any other "free" (generating money through ads and user data) upload service or social media. Since shadow areas are more likely to show similar signs of compression it might appear like user error but its not. There are tips and tricks to get somewhat better results but that does not solve the problem.

The majority of users post images of their freshly ordered food or their cats which are then viewed on smartphones, so its no wonder their studies concluded that people do not recognize compression. If you want to share more serious photography you might host your real photos somewhere else or on your own webspace and link them (which is what i do).

And thats the whole problem. Facebook adds horrible compression to all uploaded images.
Your equipment and editing have nothing to do with your problem.

Just dont upload to facebook, why would you buy expensive equipment, spent time taking pictures and editing them and then transfer all the rights on your hard work to facebook?

It’s Fryin’ Time Again… How I saltwater fried a Canon EOS-1D X: It’s a Must to Avoid… « Arthur Morris/BIRDS AS ART

A quick search came up with this, Canon 1DX killed by just partially dipping it. If a 7000$ pro body which is said to have the best sealing in the industry cant handle that a K-S2 surely wont be better.

Salt water has a lower surface tension and a higher creep capability than fresh water. Salt water of the same amount and pressure will more likely get into a device than fresh water.
Altough yes, this may be splitting hair considering the OPs question.

"weather resistant" is not an industry standard whatsoever. If a camera maker decides to put some cheap paper gaskets under some buttons he can call it weather resistant if he likes to.

Exactly, also WR especially does not mean salt water resistant. Salt water gets through gaskets easier than fresh water and kills any device it gets into.

Edit:
If it was a fresh water splash than it may be a different story. My K50, K10D and K3 have been in normal rain and heavy snow many times without any problems. The K10D even got soaked in a heavy thunderstorm for an hour, water entered through the buttons on the back. You can still see remains of dirt and water between the LCD and its cover but other than that the camera is working fine since the accident five years ago.

There is a plastic cover over the lcd itself, attached with a strong double sided tape to the cameras back.
But i think this cover would just crack and not spiderweb since its quite flexible?

astrophotography with a telescope

You will need not a K but a Q-mount adaptor. And a pentax Q.
The telescope mount will not support any K-mount camera on this long leverage.
The extremely long focal length will also make it very difficult to get any objects in the field of view let alone to get some usable images at all.

I started with a very similar setup from bresser. Better use it to look at the moon and dont get frustrated trying astrophotography with something like this.

What kind of telescope did your children get?

If its something like a typical Christmas gift 60/700mm on a manual wobbly alt/az mount i would not even bother investing in anything. You can adapt almost any interchangeable lens camera to anything that accepts standard 1,25" eyepieces but even taking a photo of the moon would be difficult(!!!) and worse than a cheap telephoto lens handheld + cropping.

If its a higher quality telescope on a sturdy (maybe even tracking) mount then it would be worthwhile to get a k-mount adaptor

Edit: DeadJohn was faster ;)

Well the "beautiful" video was shot with an old 58mm f2 manual focus prime lens. Because of that there is some bokeh which is the only beautiful thing i can find in it (besides the girl). Otherwise its technically the same as your videos.

On ebay you can find matching batteries for 3,99€ + 2,99 shipping to the netherlands from german sellers.
If your batteries are ten years old too you should buy new ones anyway, no battery will last forever.

Its unlikely that the camera works but somehow drains more current than normal.

camera or lense issue?

At first i tried to fine tune the lens on a very short distance with a DIY calibration target very similar to lenscal, result was -5.
Images at normal distances and infinity suddenly were even more out of focus than before.
Then i tried to fine tune it on some trees close to infinity which resulted in +5.
Now its at +2 which seems to be the optimal compromise setting for normal use. Other lenses did not show this extreme behavior, a 35mm 2,4 for example. I just af-finetune all my lenses to 3m/10feet since.

clackers recommendation seems right.

For whatever reasons my 40mm 2.8 needs -5 at closest focus distance / test chart and +5 at infinity. You could try to af-finetune your 55mm 1.4 to a high contrast target at 3m / 10ft for example.

I also have a K3 and have or had these lenses but the soligor. These cheap lenses are sharp enough for general use but just dont expect too much. Still these are excellent lenses for what they are.

Its definitely not the cameras fault, with a DA*300mm f4 for example its sharp to the last pixel, so sharp that sometimes you cant even apply unsharp masking in postprocessing because it would start to look artificial. There are some lenses that will outresolve the K3s sensor but they will of course cost X-times more than all your current lenses together. The 20-40 limited stopped down a bit was probably the sharpest normal lens i used.

In my opinion you just have to shoot raw and postprocess with a K3, the JPG engine is just ok but there is just so much more potential in its RAW files.
Still the K3s JPGs look better than the horrible artificial dirt especially Canon JPG engines produce (I once had a canon setup and almost gave up photography). Problem is that people are so used to it many even do like Canon JPGs better than Fujifilm or Olympus.

Adding to that, as the others said, all images are troubled by user error in regard of maximum sharpness, but in my opinion that does not hurt the images at all. If there is just one thing that will make an image look cheap and artificial then its too much sharpness.

I found article number 142125641204 in very good condition for 249€ including shipping and article number 222122908215 with a scratch on the barrel and some dust for 229€ including shipping, both with one year warranty and one month free return if you didnt like it.
The warranty should be valid in the whole EU but maybe the problem is that both sellers have no shipping options for Finland.
If you look at finished auctions there are lenses with some wear sold for as low as 150€ but without warranty.
Many of the buy it now lenses for 290-320 are from small shops and can also be picked up locally.

Buying new isnt a bad idea - keep an eye on amazon.fr, they regularly had the K50 with the 18-138WR for 456€ new including shipping inside europe, one time even for 406€ as a one day offer. Since you would have to pay with a credit card anyway its an installment (more or less) and could be supported quite a bit by selling then redundant gear.
The big retailers over here like mediamarkt and saturn had this K50 kit for around 500€ sometimes, payable in 30 monthly rates with 0.0% interest, normally this should be valid for all EU citizens but im not really sure about that.

Oh ok i just found the post where you mentioned the kit zooms. Before i really was confused why you didnt seem to have anything wider than 28.
I just checked ebay germany, if you are patient getting a 18-135 wr for under 200€ should not be a problem, if you want it now and a one year guarantee you can buy it from used retailers for 250€. Thats what i did, i also sold one 18-55 and the 50-200 to help fund it and never looked back.

Sorry i didnt fully understand that this is about using old zoom lenses. With "decent pentax glas" i meant a smc 28mm 2.8 for example, not a K1 with the 24-70 2.8 . I got mine for 60€ off an ebay auction with minor wear and i just love it.

As others said, it will be hard to find a film era Genericon (or any) 28-xxx zoom lens thats really good optically and mechanically. The ones available on ebay look exactly like the ones you could buy from mail order catalogues back in the day, for a fraction of the price of "brand" lenses. Film is more forgiving to optical errors and slightly missed focus, especially when viewed as 4x6" prints or smaller which of course was the common thing when these lenses were released. So if the markings at the widest end were not precise and/or not parfocal it did not matter much for the target customers these lenses were made for. Widest angle, f11, somewhere around infinity, done.

A 18-135 WR you mentioned too might be the best value for money lens for Pentax cameras, maybe even across all camera brands. Its good at and for anything, if i could have only one lens this would be it. Maybe its worth selling some of your existing lenses? If thats an option, it seems from your first post that you do have quite a lot of lenses?
I dont know for other areas but on german ebay a used 18-135mm with minor wear can be had for slightly under 200€ (220$) including shipping from a private person, i would take that over the 18-200mm tamron, although that is a perfectly ok lens too. And most important both are much, much wider than 28mm.

Edit: what about the pentax 18-55 and 50-200 combo? Both are cheaper than many old pentax zooms and are really decent and lightweight. Again at least on german ebay they can be had for 30-40€ each in the non-WR versions.

Its just for orientation, just a help. It isnt accurate in all situations and it did not need to be for a 35mm film zoom lens like this.
Btw, why are you complaining about some old obscure third party zoom lenses? They were crap even when they were new. Get some decent pentax glas if you want good results.

What is wrong with my night sky photos?
Posted By Bewatek

When you manage to control the flare and the direct light sources the problem will be light pollution from every light on the whole island that you can see in the general brightness of the sky and the whitish clouds.
Still it doesnt seem too bad, with some post processing (like pulling down the shadows) you still can get decent results.

Easy test for astrophotography: stretch your hand out towards the night sky.
If you can make out its shape easily its too light polluted for good results.
If you can see your hand directly better focus on daytime photography ;)

Even if you can manage to avoid lens flare completely - i would suggest going somewhere better suited for night sky photos.
Under a really dark sky without light sources shining into the lens a K100 with kit lens and without astrotracer will deliver better results than a K1 under the conditions visible in your sample image.
