Performed the update and tested 1:1 crop which seems to work. The ES option has been greyed out for me no matter what though. My Image Stab. is off, my shutter speed is ~ 1/160... HDR off... still greyed out.

Hey guys and gals, sorry for the next newb-ish question: I see the Electronic Shutter feature to be introduced is for the Live View. Do we already have this for the Optical viewfinder, perhaps through an option, or is this not possible?
Thank you :)

First, apologies if this belongs in the K-1 Bugs or Quality Control Issues thread.
I've been wondering for some time if this is normal, but even more so after having just spent nearly 2000$ (Canadian) on the D FA 24-70 f2.8 on Monday!
I had noticed this issue shortly after getting my K-1 and using the 35mm DA L F2.4 AL and, in talking with another local pentaxian with the K-1, i don't think he had this issue with his. Well, now with the 24-70 f2.8, i have it too.
In auto-focus only and in Manual mode (easiest way to repro the issue) when the aperture is changed using the wheel on the camera, a loud sound is heard from somewhere inside. clearly a mechanical sound and it happens with every change in stop, up or down. If this is normal, let me know, otherwise i will happily produce a videoclip to share with you! I understand if this is simply the sound of the blades opening and closing, but with a lens AF as quiet as the one on this lens, i'd be surprised if this was really normal.
This is one of many small issues that make me doubt the quality of my unit and would love to put this matter to rest.
Thank you!

Alright I played with it more today and I MIGHT just be being too picky.
Set it up on a tripod and carefully took more shots at f8-f11 at what I felt was the sharpest I could get the trees across the lake. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzL1myXZb9sdYUV6VFg2dzVUM2M
There's a link to a DNG file that's ~45MB. (Click the Download arrow at the top to get the actual file)
Would you be content/happy with this result?

Hey guys, been a while since I posted. I'm going to post some recent stuff in the K-1 Pictures thread this weekend.
Anyhow, I recently picked up a second hand but unused Rokinon 14mm f2.8 from a classified ads site and got to finally spend some time with it today to test it properly in the environment I intend on using it (nature, landscapes, etc.)
After reading many many reviews and looking at hundreds of sample images, including many created with the K-1, I can't say I'm thrilled following my experience shooting with it.
The first thing that bothers me, other than the fact that I can't say that anyof the images produced with it are what i would consider 'very sharp', is the terrible time I'm having focusing with it.
I'm using the Live View most of the time and it's setup on a tripod to ensure the best possible performance (also using 2 second timer almost exclusively) and, whenever in Live View, the image i see on the display is blurred but almost to the point where the highlights are creating a Halo effect making it very very hard to focus. It seriously looks like there's clear jelly crap smeared on my lens when i'm trying to focus (at a few X multiplication, other lenses don't do this) The end result doesn't show this, but again it's never as sharp as I'd like it. I don't think this is related to the focus peaking feature because I've played with this and don't believe it affected this issue...
I've also found mentions online of many people with this lens making adjustments to the focus rings themselves using the 3 screws under the rubber ring, but that's only to set a new Infinity point... I don't even look at my markings when I'm shooting so I don't think that fix would affect me either.
Any ideas? Could this be related to some setting somewhere or did I just buy a 350$ potato? I'll provide some samples in the morning! Thanks in advance!

To be honest, i still don't know where the video function is! I remember looking for it once and feeling really dumb not being able to figure it out within a couple minutes...! Didn't need it luckily and expectations are low. I've got a hacked Panasonic GH2 just for video :)

Did a search in the thread and don't believe I found any info on the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC Art on the Pentax K-1 (i DID someone talking about a 17-35 sigma though, unless that was an error)
Any first hand experience? I suppose it too won't be usable at 18mm in FF mode right ?

Hey everyone, thanks for all your input and for the wealth of information you've contributed that, no doubt, has helped others as well!
After much reading and research online, and also after thoroughly checking prices and specials, I actually picked up something i never thought would be the first purchase for the K1! I ended up getting the Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR at 369.99$ from B&H earlier this week. I DO do (hehe doodoo) a lot of macro and nature photography, so it was only a matter of time before I got that lens anyway, and at that price it was hard to pass on.
I also picked up an m42 adapter (the good Pentax one) and am currently researching those options (Zeiss, Meyer, Helios, etc.) but will still soon be looking for something with autofocus. So, the search continues, but i think i'll be looking at the Pentax 43mm and 77mm when the time comes, perhaps even the new FA 24-70 if it proves good for portraiture. ---------- Post added 05-14-16 at 06:58 AM ----------
I think I'm going to go the Samyang route for my wide-angle landscape applications. The 14mm f2.8 seems like a good bet especially now that companies are releasing external filter systems for it.

Alright guys, I'm kind of in the same situation so I decided to bump this thread rather than start a new one.
I've had the K-1 for a couple weeks now and it has been awesome (see my pics in the K-1 Pictures thread) but I'm now looking to pick up my first high-end piece of glass for Pentax.
I want to start off with a good portrait-type lens because I intend on giving 'baby' or children's photography a go! (all my friends are poppin' em out of late!)
I initially begun looking at 85mm lenses (specifically the sigma 1.4) as well as the old used Pentax FA* 85mm 1.4. Others convinced me to look at something closer to 50mm first, for added versatility indoors.
For the past few days I've been looking at the Pentax smc DA Star 55mm F1.4 SDM, the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Pentax 43mm 1.9
However, i recently saw that the Pentax 55 may introduce some vignetting as it's not meant for full-frame use, and I'm not sure about the Sigma.
Is the 43mm ltd the only good choice in this focal range? I don't want to look at a zoom yet, even though a part of me wants the new HD D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR, i really want something faster first.
What do you all think?

Hey everyone! Great work in here. I wish I had signed up earlier and contributed to this K-50 thread. I just got the new K-1 two weeks ago and have since given my K-50 to my father, but I'm now starting to share some of my better moments with the K-50! Slowly putting together a flickr portfolio with some of my selections :) |

So, after starting the "Will you be shooting at 36MP thread" I've since bought one and went out today to finally take some proper outdoor pictures!
I don't have any particularly good lenses yet, so everything so far's been done with the 35mm DA L F2.4 AL and the smc Pentax-DA L 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6AL WR that was bundled with my K-50.
Also using a Tiffen circular polarizer and some post in Lightroom.
And this one with Pixel Shift Resolution:
More to come soon!

Soooooooooo............... OP here... guess what I bought this morning? :)
Yup. One of the last lucky few in Montreal to get one... might have even nabbed the last one available in the city!
Battery is charged and going to do some testing later! I wish I didn't have to prep for a work trip tonight!

Import, Build 1:1 Previews, Go to Bed, wake up in morning, Edit :P
Also, Barry, fantastic use of that dial and a preset! Good idea for sure and a good way to get a slightly higher FPS when the occasion calls for it!

Hey everyone :)
I was just wondering the following as someone that's considering making the move to this bad boy once available (k1!!). Background story because I'm a former lurker here and just started posting: I've been looking for a full frame for a while to move up to from my K-50 and was considering Nikon's D750 but, after its 4th recall since it's release and some negative reviews, and also considering I have a couple K-mount lenses already (albeit nothing high end yet) I'm happy to see its finally being released! I suppose I was waiting for reviews to start popping up before making my decision and now, it seems quite promising and possibly better than the D750 The question: Given the increase to a now, pretty significant 36MP representing a big leap for most of us and our prior bodies, will you all be shooting at 36MP all the time? Aside from the APS-C crop mode which limits users to 16MP IIRC, when given the possibility to shoot at 36, will you always use it? I am only asking because I'm considering disk space for us who shot JPEG+RAW and also PC processing power afterwards. It may be a shock for some of us. Looking at some DNG samples they are a nice light 36MB in size :p
So, will you shoot at max res all the time?

Are you referring to Photo Service in old mtl ? I just called them to confirm what they have on their site (they have written april 30th on their site!) and the lady told me "we have no idea when we're getting it" so it really seems up in the air! Let me know if you find it in Montreal or Laval! I will come post as well if i find it.

I believe the picture on www.pentax.com has changed. Earlier this evening it was a picture looking at its frontside (with sensor exposed) and now it appears to be the side.

Does anyone foresee price drops on K-3 and K-3 II following the release or announcement of the FF?
