If u are in bright sunlight then you will have to get the couple to either be in the shade or have their back to the sunlight because you will get squinting, which never looks good, and huge contrast/shadows and the dynamic range will create a problem for the camera. The flash or a reflector can then be used to create fill in effect. You could lock in the exposure by pointing at a sunlight area and locking it in, then if the flash is TTL it should try to match the exposure though its probably best to switch to centre weighted metering to make sure the exposure is primarily based on the couple faces. The problem with the filters is that the picture quality will suffer unless you really push the boat out and get expensive ones.

Help me decide between K1 or KP for nightphotography

Just to add another camera to the mix. I currently have the K1 and a KS-2 and have previously owned a K3. You would be surprised at how well the KS-2 handles high ISO noise, a lot better than the K3. This isn't surprising given its got a newer sensor and lower pixel density. Plus its a lot less than the KP and K1 to buy.

A photo of someone in a pub in Covent Garden taken whilst a friend and I were having a drink there. They looked less than enthralled with the joys of life

I just want to make a general comment about focusing issues which I frequently think aren't really issues a lot of the time. I get the occassional misfocus when I'm using lenses, and they are occasionally due to camera error but I have generally found that they errors are due to how the camera focuses when in the full focus and centre weighted focus modes. On the whole they aren't very sophisticated in the approach to focusing on Pentax cameras. They generally focus on the nearest thing in the focus zone. With the APS-C cameras I have owned like the K3 and K30 it is easy not to notice this because of the depth of field but the depth of field on a full frame camera is quite a bit less so you generally will notice when the focus is on the wrong subject, especially in photos for close subjects. Most of the times after examining the photo I have generally found that its focused not on whats in the centre of the frame but on something in the focus zone which is actually nearer. Of course on one occasion it was due to the SDM motor starting to fail which became obvious when it refused to focus at all a couple of weeks later and this also excludes when theres a lens issue so it worth your time just checking your photos. Of course its a whole different issue for continuous focusing...............

K-1 shutter release does not behave

I have had that problem. It could be it isn't set for release priority but the last time I found it i noticed that the last photo was taking a long time to write to the card, and I tried it using 3 different cards, and I assumed the buffer was full because of this. I did notice that I had set clarity up for photos and this seems to slow everything down since its doing some post processing to the photo. I assumed that this had caused the problem and haven't got anywhere with Pentax support providing a solution.

The chip on this lens is flash reprogrammable. i know because Sigma UK have upgraded the firmware on my Sigma 70-200 HSM II to the latest version and the problem has gone away.

This can be fixed by a firmware update to the lens by Sigma. They've done it to my lens and the issue has gone

K1 Write Speed slowness

I think this is a firmware issue. I have found this previously and thought that it was a card issue and found it disappeared when I formatted the card. But it happened again today when the write speeds slowed to a crawl. I switched from duel card to single card and rotated 3 cards through 1 slot writing in either raw format or JPEG. It still crawled and locked the camera up.when writing to card even after I reformatted one of the cards. I switched back to using the first 2 cards, raw to 1 and JPEG to the other and it still crawled.I then switched to TAV mode from User mode and the problem completely disappeared. its almost as if the buffer wasn't clearing after writing to SD card and the memory completely filled up but switching mode flushed the buffer. This has never happened with my K3 or previous K30 or K5's. It looks like a software issue to me.
