It arrived today. The product box was in rough shape and was missing the charging cable. Won't focus indoors. And thus ends my brief experiment with this camera.

I ordered the camera with the single zoom kit lens last night. Since I've been reading so many gripes about autofocus, I got a cheap fast manual prime by an unknown (to me) company named Jaray. From what I've read, manual focus lenses do OK on this thing. We'll see!

Hey y'all. I'm going to be getting a mirrorless camera off of amazon. The extended warranty is always offered when you check out. Is it worth the investment? Thanks.

My KS2 with the 18-50 lens just went back to Amazon. Gorgeous camera, but a DSLR isn't right for me. I'm gonna have to pick up a little Ricoh or a Pentax film point and shoot so I can post here and not feel like a fraud. 😜 ---------- Post added 10-14-17 at 09:02 PM ----------
Leaving photography? What are you, high??
Seriously though, my interests ebb and flow. I occasionally write, and when I'm feeling it my output is prolific. Photography is the same way. I find it best to take pics regularly, even casually with my phone. The mental excercise keeps it fresh.

Welcome brother! I too cut my teeth on the K1000. A friend loaned me one a few years back to teach me how to shoot manual. There is a ton of free knowledge here, I'm sure you'll dig this community.
PS Nice shots!

I'm waiting for Amazon to process some returns and then I'm going to order the Yi M1. I'll write a sort of layman's review when I receive it.

You're not losing me! I'm gonna reclaim my patch with an $8 automatic point and shoot film camera.

Do you have a link to the pics your wife took with the box camera back in the 80s? I'd love to see those.

I'm a leftie. My right hand is used only for shaking hands, waving, and on rare occasion flipping the bird in traffic. Try as I might, I cannot seem to train myself to reach for the camera with my left hand. Most cameras are intended to be held by the grip. Now, with mirrorless and compacts, I can instinctively avoid the grip and use my left hand without a problem because of the weight, but with a DSLR it's another matter. That's just my individual experience.

I have a confession to make: I boxed up the KS2 today for return. It's a great camera, without question. But for my style of photography, which is walking around the city, child in hand, it's just too darn big. I cut my teeth on the phone and moved on to advanced compacts, so I'm gonna go mirrorless this time.
If I get my K1000 back can we still be friends???

I would gladly take the GX85 over the Yi, but I don't have the money. I've wanted to get into Micro Four Thirds since having the LX100. The GX85 seems like the interchangeable lens equivalent of the LX100. But I don't have any MFT glass and I love to shoot at night, so I'd need something fast.
The Yi M1 goes for about 370USD with two lenses, one of them being pretty fast. I read some tests of the glass, and while I can't really wrap my head around the tech, it looked as though both kit lenses were quite sharp.
So, I could get the Yi now and get a GX85 body when tax returns come back. I'd have some glass to start out with, and I could keep the Yi as a backup.
The Yi doesn't have an EVF, and that sucks but I can deal with it. I got my start in photography late in life by using the smartphone so it's not that alien to me.

Thanks! It was during a light rain too. Really didn't start showing up in shots for quite a while, I suppose the computer has some magic algorithm for eliminating it.

You know what? I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on this one. The tests for the glass alone didn't come out half bad.

Is it after the firmware update? I've seen bits of this review, autofocus in video is dreadful.

Do you guys find live view to be useful for focus peaking? It was great with mirrorless but feels different here. I wear glasses to judging focus can be tough when I remove them.

You can ship an open container of yogurt and it will look better than this lens. Have no guilt about opening a claim. I'm sorry you got burned, it happens. I've gotten stuck with lemon cars before. Unfortunately not everyone is on the up and up.
eBay/PayPal should get you your dough but you'll have to be proactive and do all the protocol right. In the meanwhile, clean up the lens and start shooting!!
I'm sure it'll work out. Just another bump in the road my friend.
EDIT: If the guy doesn't relent, it's ok to call him out publicly by name. Atariage.com for example has a thread for known scammers.

Forgive the redundant question, but how do I change the custom image? That setting seems inaccessible. I can't seem to post a pic from my phone to show what I mean, but I'm in the settings, and the first in that page, custom image, is dim and can't be clicked on. Weird.
EDIT: Nevermind, I was in Auto. 😋

A small disclaimer: though I am a somewhat experienced photographer with a few years under my belt, I almost never shoot video.
So, I just picked up a KS2. I was hanging out with my parents and my daughter at the park, my dad was pushing his granddaughter on the swing. I put the camera in auto mode and let it rip. The video and the sound were pretty darn good! Is the quality really that inferior to other DSLRs?

I must say that if it weren't for the smart phone, I'd never have gotten into photography and bought a Pentax. Film for me was too punishing. I started taking pics on the phone around 2013 and posting them on Instagram, and from there it took off. Phones expose a lot of people to the craft.
